I would like to tell you a bit more about God

I think he meant medieval. Sorry you didn't get that. Or were you intentionally trying to misunderstand him? -
Religious people don't date non-religious people

Nope. While I know of examples where it was the case, I know of many more where it was not. -
Hospital security guard tasers man carrying newborn baby.

It seems like a number of people have some serious issues with authority. Bad Cop! Bad Cop! Bad Cop! -

Clearly, it's a vast rightwing conspiracy. Be afraid. Be very afraid!!! -
You seem to like throwing these labels around. When you talk about "the NEO CONS on here", who specifically are you talking about? I hope you're not talking about me. That would reflect poorly on your level of critical thinking.

"How many high-priced political consultants and spin-doctors did you use to write that speech, anyway?" Do you think if we compared the sacrifices of the Civil War to those of WWII we could disqualify WWII as an actual war, also?

Hospital security guard tasers man carrying newborn baby.
NCclimber replied to jakee's topic in Speakers Corner
Looks like a lose/lose situation. You got a pissed off man, holding a newborn, trying to leave (illegally) with the baby. If he leaves, then the hospital is liable. If he gets violent and the baby gets injured, then the hospital is liable. The father (who definitely seems a few cards short) says the baby has problems as a result of the incident. Social Services and doctors say no. Definitely a big ole can of worms. IMO the father bears the brunt of the blame here. -
And I feel the exact opposite. OK, you still have not responded to the facts about what the US SC actually did regarding the Florida election. Are you going to? A story from the World Socialist Web Site about a US Presidential election? Isn't that kind of like using a white supremacy site to show that there is no racism in the US?

Excellent job at furthering the discussion. -
Kind of like all those people who think those Americans, who already pay the lion's share of taxes, should pay more. Except there is one major difference. Individual soldiers voluntarily join the armed forces. Individual taxpayers don't really have a choice.

Nope, the 'surge' sure isn't working, is it?
NCclimber replied to mnealtx's topic in Speakers Corner
I would put everyone who supports George and Dicks Excellent Misadventure in Iraq in uniform and put thier asses over there. And Dick and his minions can run things from the Green Zone in Bahgdad too. Kind of a Third World method of conscription, eh? Brilliant! -

NCclimber replied to mnealtx's topic in Speakers Corner
I guess when its IMPORTANT to you because you know people who are actually putting their asses on the line so that the CHICKENHAWKS do NOT have to go.. it becomes something that you indeed think about everyday. Aside from certain people getting al warm inside from their self-righteous posturing, does it have any impact? -
On the page with all the fatwas, each fatwa stated the subject matter. Your fears are unfounded. But speaking of selective reading, a few weeks back you posted a link claiming 2005 (or was it 2006?) was the warmest year on record. It was convenient that you overlooked that it was for US temps, not global temps.

Nope, the 'surge' sure isn't working, is it?
NCclimber replied to mnealtx's topic in Speakers Corner
People need to remember that it didn't need to happen in the first place. I'd say it's pretty much impossible, considering it gets brought up just about every single day!!! -
Speaking of ignoring what people are saying, I notice you consistently ignore my posts that directly question your assertions. Last week, you made a post about "105 fatwas from Islamic scholars, 75 statements by Islamic Organizations (many of these signed by anywhere from 50 to 500 scholars from around the world), and 142 statements by individual Muslims" condemning violence. I pointed out that I had checked out the page with the 105 Fatwas. Going by the subject given for each fatwa, a whopping 40 were about the Danish cartoons and merely 5 were about Bin Laden. IOW the Danish carToons recieved eight times as many fatwas as Bin Laden. I guess you didn't think it was relevant the clear favorite had to do with a cartoon, while the fatwas condemning Bin Laden were so low. It's easy to say lots of Muslim leaders are speaking out against violence. When you look a little closer, that simplified message seems a bit misleading. STOP THE CARTOONS!!![/RED]

Nope, the 'surge' sure isn't working, is it?
NCclimber replied to mnealtx's topic in Speakers Corner
Does this really have anything to do with whether or not the "surge" is working? It seems that many of the anti-war posters are incapable of discussing any specific topic involving Iraq, without trotting out the same old "Bush lied, people died" mantra. Everybody gets it. You're deeply pissed off at Bush et al for getting us into this in the first place. As a matter of fact, I'm pissed off, too. That doesn't change the fact that we currently have a bad situation that needs to be remedied, whether or not it was the biggest US screwup in history! IMO it sucks that many of you can't have a discussion on anything related to Iraq (or even politics) without resorting to the same old wornout tactic. -

NCclimber replied to mnealtx's topic in Speakers Corner
That article seems to focus only on the last two months. Seems like a complete picture would look at the entire surge period, and put it in context to what was going on beforehand. -
So that's how it all played out. Thanks for such an objective summary. Getting back to the Electoral College, do you know why the Founding Fathers set it up? The principles behind it? Why it was implemented, instead of just having simpler process? Why a President elected without the popular vote is completely legitimate?

I will translate that even further seeing as you didn't get it Here is what I have openly voiced my distaste for about the US 1. The government and military past and present 2. Its rising Christian fundamentalism Assume from this that I like everything else about the US. Interestingly I also don't like those two things about a lot of other countries... almost all of them in fact. See... here's the thing... if all you ever do is bitch and moan and criticize any given topic, it's pretty difficult for others to understand that you have anything other than negative feelings about that topic. Interestingly enough, you still haven't stated anything that you like about this country. Hmm. You say you like everything, except our government and Christian fundamentalism. How about our capitalist system?... that exploits cheap labor in underdeveloped countries? How about our materialism? Excessive consumption and pollution? All good? Well I only made a list of what I can remember complaining about in this forum but now that you mention those things yes it is probably obvious I would also dislike them too. I didn't realise I had to make compliment sandwiches given that it is a forum for political discussion (disagreement) but that is a novel idea and I will try it now 1 (bread) I really admire Eugene Debs 2 (meat) I really dislike the way your government has and still continuous to murder millions of people 3 (bread) Fox news is hilarious you guys make great comedy shows DDSS -

Just addressing how you missed my previous one. There's quite a difference between a simple critique and the standard replies (to statements of Christian faith) on this forum. -

Lefty or righty, they tend to be a very, very tiny segment of the population.... but thanks for interjecting that viewpoint, all the same.

Is there anything about the USA that you admire or consider worthy? If you have anything positive to say about this country, I'd love to hear it. There are probably many things. You seem to be confusing government and military with culture and people. Again, if you have anything positive to say about this country, I'd love to hear it. Or are you just going to stick with "I hate America" and "you just don't get it" approaches?
