I find it interesting that unabashed bigotry against Christianity, complete with mockery and derision, is considered perfectly acceptable on this forum, but one crack about blacks or pedophilia will get you banned. It's still BIGOTRY, just not against one of the "underclass".

Excellent analogy. Some people seem to operate exclusively from the position of trying to misunderstand others or focusing on ways to discount/discredit other's points. I'm guilty of doing this, especially with those less civil. But generally speaking I prefer to get what the other person is saying and see it how it jibes with my worldview. -

It really is. "We the People of the United States, in Order to form a more perfect Union, establish Justice, insure domestic Tranquility, provide for the common defense, promote the general Welfare, and secure the Blessings of Liberty to ourselves and our Posterity, do ordain and establish this Constitution for the United States of America."........remember this? You should do a little research on what the Framers of the Constitution meant by "promote the general welfare". It certainly didn't mean health coverage for every American. -

Which is basically all this is about... a simple piece of legislation that seemingly breezed through the process. I doubt there's been a single session of Congress (at least in the last 100 years) that didn't have similar bills. And I doubt any of those bills got in the way of Congress addressing major issues. You got to wonder why some people seem upset about it. -

Do you ever actually pause to comprehend the things you read? The comparison between UK and US murder rates was to illustrate the point that execution rates cannot be assumed to have the direct causal link to murder rates that he seems to assume from his numbers. Since the UK has no executions and a much lower murder rate than the US it is obvious that many more factors are involved, if it was as simplistic as his post suggests the UK should have a higher murder rate than the US. If you think I was trying to say that the UK has a low murder rate because it has no CP then you're an idiot. Yeah, yeah, yeah It is the responsibility of the writer to effectively convey his/her point. But when the writer falls a little short, most people earnestly try to discern the intended point. I say most because some seem intent on trying to miss the point. Perhaps they're insecure in acknowledging the point. Perhaps they just enjoy being an asshole. I'm sure there are other motivations. I'm guessing they all stem from a degree of small-mindedness. I could be way off base. That's just how it looks to me. It is interesting to see the same people, who at times illustrate a high intellect, resort to such a low brow tactic over and over.

That's all very interesting, but none of it sheds any light on the Bill of Rights codifying any God-given rights. While I disagree with you, I am trying to understand what you are saying. It seems that you have reached a conclusion on an inferred connection that lacks any direct connection. With all the letters and opinions written by our Founding Fathers, you'd think there would be at least one known instance of someone asserting that one of the purposes fo the Bill of Rights was to outline the "unalienable rights" expressed in the Declaration of Independence. There is a one connection tying those "unalienable rights" the BoR. It's in the Fifth Amendment, but that's not really what we're debating, is it?
