  1. Mommy! Make the mean man stop talking whining. Fixed it for you. Kallend goes for self-depreciation. Will wonders never cease?
  2. Actually I'm not. Just trying to figure out why there seems to be a double standard.
  3. Considering America offers the be-all end-all, you Brits certainly have a daunting problem.
  4. Are you just interested in placing the blame elsewhere? Or do you have any ideas on how to remedy/improve the situation?
  5. Why should saluting be different from ANY other activity? T-1
  6. The Russians killed more Germans in WWII than did all other nations combined. I don't think anyone should forget that. What's your point? Commentary on his point. You have a problem with that? Nah, I just think it's funny (not the ha ha kind) that you have a penchant for redirecting discussions when the current discussion isn't IMO to your liking. Here we have a discussion about America's contribution to WWII in Europe. You, in turn, attempt to make it about Russia's contribution. And yeah, I get the whole thread drift thing, but your redirects seem so consistent, especially when it's pro-America, pro-economy, pro-government, that it's hard to see them in the context of ordinary thread drift.
  7. Mommy! Make the mean man stop talking.
  8. Oh, I gotta call BULLSHIT on this one. You seem to regularly use that label as a demeaning insult. I think it's pretty clear it's intended to be an insult, right up there with other inflamatory terms that frequently get tossed around here, like neo-con and chickenhawk.
  9. So what you're basically saying is "We will not tolerate hate speech except where we think it's okay." How about "dirty little Jews"? Is that okay? It's okay to condemn/attack the Syrians, but using a racial slur like towelhead will get you banned? It's all so confusing.
  10. And the Pound exchange rate is at it's best level for the last 20 (or maybe 30) years. Seems like a good time to move. Considering this all-time high only looks at the last 16 years, is it really that significant? Aside from anecdotes, do we really know what are the primary causes?
  11. I think you're missing the point - that many people think school systems go way too far about disciplining children for really stupid stuff. On the flip side of the control issue, it seems that many school systems treat students who consistently cause problems and disrupt classrooms with kid gloves. My wife used to teach. I recall a story about a fifth grader who regularly got in fights... I'm talking about blood and stitches. He'd get sent home for 3 days, come back and start the same trouble all over. According to school policy, the teacher was stuck with him for the whole year. It didn't matter that he made life miserable for everyone else.
  12. Over that last few years we have seen the feminization of America. Let's face it. A lot of women do not like boys being boys. The kids can no longer play games that require aggressivness or a high amount of activity for fear of someone getting hurt. Forget dodge ball or red rover. Forget anything that requires someone to be out or it. I wonder what playground equipment is no longer allowed on the playground. Shortyj, good for you wanting your boys to be boys. Take them outside and throw some dirt on them. And don't forget about nurturing self esteem.
  13. I think his point is about who is actually setting policy inside our schools. First graders getting charged w/ sexual harassment for kissing a girl, an elementary school student is prohibited from reading a story she wrote because it's about her faith. Here are a few stories I found. http://www.neveryetmelted.com/?p=2813 http://drhelen.blogspot.com/2007/06/no-touching-allowed.html This one seemed truly inane.
  14. "Those in the social sciences are more likely to believe in God and attend religious services than researchers in the natural sciences, the study found." So now "social scientists" are scientists Okay - throwing "social scientists" out of the equation how do you account for one study saying 38% of "natural" scientists do not believe in God, while the other says 72% of "natural" scientists do not believe in God? Or is the difference between 72% and 38% insignificant?
  15. It's like deja vu all over again. http://www.dropzone.com/cgi-bin/forum/gforum.cgi?post=2919867#2919867
  16. I wonder how these studies are done. Here's one with dramatically different results. http://www.livescience.com/strangenews/050811_scientists_god.html
  17. The rules of this site are made at the sole discretion of the owners. I don't question that. My point goes to more of a societal norm that makes offensive language on certain topics completely taboo, while it's open season on others.
  18. Hey Rocky, Watch me rip a fart out of my ass.
  19. Oh I thought you were talking about freedom of speech.
  20. How do you feel about liberal-bashing? Making fun of what someone is (gay, black, female, etc) is fundamentally different than making fun of what people believe in (liberalism, communism, capitalism, christianity, islam, etc). Blues, Dave Our anti-discrimination laws apply to race, religion, creed, national origin, gender (and I think sexual orientation). Why is that?
  21. Of course, that across the board standard doesn't apply here. There are a number of topics that are completely off the table. Same with personal attacks.
  22. What are you saying? That all reports coming out of the White House should be called "The White House Report"? Wouldn't that get a little confusing?
  23. How do you feel about gay-bashing or racist jokes? "Fuck 'em if they can't take a joke"?
  24. The Russians killed more Germans in WWII than did all other nations combined. I don't think anyone should forget that. What's your point?
