Thailand update #7 (and a new Guiness record!)
dragon2 replied to billvon's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
No, there's 3 of us (Edward, Henny, me) that will be putting the final video together. Right now Edward Blaauw is doing the end-of-the-day videos. ciel bleu, Saskia -
Thailand update #7 (and a new Guiness record!)

Try reloading each page you want to view; all the end-of-the-day videos we have are up now (for total of 8 days). ciel bleu, Saskia -
Also, although these are really new, there are firewire800 cables which are totaly different again. Mostly seen on Macs, firewire800 IS available for PC. We have a LaCie 400 Gb Firewire 800/USB2 disk here in Thailand. And a Firewire800 PCMCIA card. Fast!! ciel bleu, Saskia

Well as you may know currently in Holland you'd need 500 (!) jumps to jump that sabre. I can't say I agree with all of the new rules but there IS a reason for it.... A 120 is a very small canopy! Myself, I'm just going to a 120, with 450 jumps, and a WL of < 1.3 That is also against the new rules BTW but I'm 'grandfathered' or whaddaya call it... Ie I get away with it, but I'm slightly lighter then you are and have a bunch of jumps on 150, 143, 135 and 126 sqft canopies. What I'm trying to say is, you may survive that canopy, you may not, or get hurt.... I wouldn't take the chance.... Stay on the 150 or demo a 135 if you really want to and your instructors say you're ready, but skipping a size isn't smart in any case, and you'd be ending up with an 'advanced' canopy too... ciel bleu, Saskia

Both are okay first chutes. The Spectre has 7 cells, the Sabre nine. Which one you want is a personal preference (ie, demo both if you can)... The spectre usually has really slow openings (too slow for some), the sabre has been known to open more briskly and can open quite hard every now and then but that seems to depend a lot on which canopy, and packing. Some sabres open slow too... The Spectre might be easier to sell later on since it is a current model, the Sabre is not (there's a Sabre 2 now). I don't think either canopy is 'better' they're just different. If you're instructor says you'll be fine on both, it is just a matter of personal preference... ciel bleu, Saskia

I have 4 pairs of Nike Air Max... And 3 pairs of Nike Air other shoes but those are more for inside so I don´t jump those when the grass is wet. The are the best for cushioning! I tried a couple of other shoes but didn´t like those. 3 of my Nikes have the laces ´inside´ and the flap tucked mostly away, which is good for CReW... ciel bleu, Saskia

I get stuff like that from ParaGear, may not be the cheapest option but it´s a reliable company and it has the stuff i need and will ship to The Netherlands
-
Yikes, is my general reaction when I see people (except TM's) doing that... I've always put my weight to the front, I've only once ended up on my rear, when my feet slipped on wet grass. Landing on your rear can cause all kinds of back problems, AFAIK. Anybody here who knows about this stuff?? ciel bleu, Saskia

Well if you only have 160 jumps and are jumping a Lightning 126, you are entitled to a few not-so-graceful landings in my opinion I jump one too now, same WL, but started with twice the jumps. Jumped a 143 for a bit before that. Every once in a while, the first jump on no-wind weekends mainly, I still - ehm - come in a tad bit harder then planned It's a psyche thing for me I suppose, because the following landings are always fine. Oh well.... ciel bleu, Saskia

There are a couple Contrails at our DZ, the owners are quite happy with 'em: quote: 'A cheap Stiletto' (here we pay quite a lot for over-the-pond stuff). This guy jumps one... There were a couple Demon demo's this summer, including a rediculously small one, quote: 'Nice! But not in the same class as a crossbraced'. Never jumped PV canopies myself tho. ciel bleu, Saskia

Kolla, About half way down this page there's some pics of Henny Wiggers landing a PD113 after a cutaway during our swoop nationals last year. A bit farther down it shows the rigger repacking it, also there are 2 pics of the guy who caught the freebag before it hit the ground
-
This one didn't quite buy that tho ...... ciel bleu, Saskia

Ever lost your cut-away equipment?
dragon2 replied to thermosnight's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
4 cutaways thus far. One on student gear, 3 on my own gear of which 1 intentional. Held on to all of my handles (can't even lose the reserve ripcord on my Atom because of the shape of the pin, have to remember to LET GO of THAT handle to reach my toggles ). Payed the jump for a guy to chase my stuff after my intentional cutaway, good thing too because the wind had shifted about 180', bad spot, my bad). All the other times the freebags and mains landed close enough for the DZ to spot 'm. Most stuff made it back to the hangar before I did! Never lost/damaged anything but reserve loop thingies thus far (knock on wood). ciel bleu, Saskia -
Both my rigs have RSL's however since 80% of my jumps are either BirdMan or camera or CRW I elected recently to keep them disconnected rather then chance forgetting to do or undo one (hasn't happened yet), and to keep things the same. I also have had 4 reserve rides already (2 without RSL, an intentional and a lineover on a camera jump). If I would mainly do FS or FF or so, without camera's, I'd leave the RSL on. ciel bleu, Saskia

What is it that you have to do exactly anyway? Over here you need a full 360 left then 360 right, and 3 (!) 360's one way then 3 the other.... This is for your B. I'm not sure I could do that (didn't have to, had my B already when they came up with this)... Of course it doesn't say how BIG/SMALL the 360's have to be.... But MAN, 6 360's on your FR?? ciel bleu, Saskia
-
When I first got my Spectre 150 I thought I couldn't do it. I pulled on the FR a bit and couldn't hold it. But there's tricks: quick full brakes then full FR makes it much easier to get one or 2 FR down. Also if you don't have diveloops, don't just grab and pull down but grab the riser with your hand upside down then twist your hand to thumb-up (does that make sense?). I could even FR an old Manta 288 (WL 0.5 or so) this way (jump # 300, SL for fun) although the whole front of the canopy went mushy so I left well enough alone and hung out there for a loooong time ciel bleu, Saskia

We've been very busy updating the website. Spme pages still need filling but most of the important bits are up. Registering on-line for instance has been activated! To go directly to the Dutch Tour page, click here ciel bleu, Saskia -
They're covering it on my fav news site, calling it 'parachuting from a skyscraper' tho... http://www.nu.nl/news.jsp?n=256570&c=25# Can't link to it directly, it's in the Video top 3 on the right (Extreme sport: parachutespringen van een wolkenkrabber) ciel bleu, Saskia

When we were in Ampuria for the European Championships 2 years ago, I was sitting in the plane with Henny, John and the rest of our CReW team. A couple of local freeflyers were eying the rigs speculatively, wondering aloud if these yellow things would make good gripping handles for docks ciel bleu, Saskia
-
I think this is from the CReW record jumps yes? Don't get that mag... Then it's either Henny Wiggers or John Verstegen, can't make out from the pics but recognize the rig & suit. Probably John from what I see him wearing on his head. ciel bleu, Saskia
