Not really a mal maybe, but my reserve (128 sqft) had a closed end-cell that persisted until landing. Next jump on it was an intentional; it opened fine. Then 4 weeks later after a lineover it opened with closed endcells on both sides... Oh well figured out (well was told actally and it worked) how to open those real quick now so I'll keep the reserve, unless I get a very cheap PD 126 or Techno 128 thrown in my lap... ciel bleu, Saskia

Or you can get MS Office like most of the rest of the world Remko The only time I bother with those kinds of files are at work, for programming, and for up/downloading to a mainframe. What do you need csv for?? ciel bleu, Saskia

AFAIK there's 4 programs involved: The IRDA configuring software The Neptune update software The Neptune software on the Neptune itself Paralog The first is ready but the latest version doesn't work with Neptune so use 1.2.1. If you have bluetooth, see below, this software may cause probs tho. The 2nd is the software that will allows the Neptune to be updated, I've found a couple bugs in it but if you can workaround those it does work (if you have bluetooth installed on your pc you may run in to some probs). Third is the software that'll actually allow the Neptune do upload data. Not finished yet, but in the works. I think this is Alti's own software, too. Fourth the Paralog software. Not quite finished, but, that's not so bad since you cannot upload data yet anyway! Kevin, you do know that any ICT project genarally runs 1 1/2 the time it said it would? Nothing new there....... ciel bleu, Saskia

You don't need goggles if you're not freefalling, don't wear contacts/glasses and if it's above freezing temp. Our DZ puts SL students out with no goggles on all the time! Also CRW or just a h&p are fun without goggles, if the weather's nice... ciel bleu, Saskia

Me me me!!! Finally got mine this week!!!!! Been worth the >3 months wait too... ciel bleu, Saskia

We had a discussion once on our DZ, about whether or not a person without a rig can hold onto another skydiver thru opening. General concensus was No, but then I showed them it could be done: by getting the tape of Charlie's Angels out of my car and showing the first couple minutes ciel bleu, Saskia

Yeah I have it. I have a very old VHS of From Wings Came Flight too, along with a copy of Henny Wigger's Jump, had both before I even jumped for the first time

I bet you will still be shocked when you do see it after a mal. And way more shocked if you don't ciel bleu, Saskia

The D10 is an EOS camera, so, yeah, every lens that works with a D10 works with other EOS camera's. Sometimes you can have compatibility probs with 3rth party lenses tho, mainly older Sigma lenses with newer EOS bodies. And the lens that comes with the 300D is anuther story. Gelatin filters can be used for the same things as regular (screw-on) filters, but these foil stuff lenses are customisable and some lenses have a special slot for them. For skydiving, I doubt any colored filter is of any use, and generally speaking you don't need 'em much either, for color-photography at least... Look here: http://www.geocities.com/cokinfiltersystem/theguide.htm for what a bunch of different filters do. ciel bleu, Saskia

Is it cool just to hang out?
dragon2 replied to jumpinmunky's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
Whenever I don't have the money to jump I tend to go to the DZ anyway, and usually I grab a camera and go stand in the landing area for a while, taking pics. People tend to appreciate landing pics because a lot of them don't have any. Usually I put them on my website later, which a lot of people appreciate too, and I publish pics now and then in our national magazine. Just my way of passing time.... Or I start packing (only seldom, when I'm really really down on money) or sometimes I drive the van (earnes a jump). Or do computer stuff for others. Or just plain hang out ciel bleu, Saskia -
jump# 413, 190 jumps/last 12 months, had BMI instruction, did a couple of jumps doing BM excercises without the suit, my first flight was with an experienced wingsuiter, my 2nd with a slightly experienced wingsuiter, my 3rd with a first-time wingsuiter, and I wear a helmet ciel bleu, Saskia

There's video cards and there's video cards... One is used to display stuff on your monitor, the other is used to capture video. If you mean the display card, usually what comes onboard is inferior to separate cards, but it may still fit your needs. Depends on the specs (chip, memory, ...). A capture card is always a separate card, unless you mean onboard firewire. If you have firewire and don't need to do realtime editing I don't think a capture card is necessary, but then, I do my editing on a laptop and I don't complain ciel bleu, Saskia

I've got a pro-track, time-out and a neptune. The pro-track I absolutely love, because it gives me info about exit heights, freefalltime, fallrates etc which is nice to have when freeflying, birdmanning etc. If all that doesn't interest you, any beeper will do. The neptune has so far been neat but troublesome, maybe wait out on that one for a while. My time-out is back-up, and main audible if my pro-track is on my ankle for birdmanning, this thing always works, and was cheap... But I got the pro-track first, because I knew I was gonna use it, I'm a gadget freak and I love the software etc, but it is not cheap. If you think you'll want the extra stuff later, go for a pro-track now it'll save you money later. If you think you don't, save money now and get a pro-dytter or an older dytter or time-out or something. I would get something that has 3 beeps tho, not just 2. ciel bleu, Saskia

I had a lineover on a Sabre 135 a couple weeks ago (WL 1,15). Didn't look real bad, the canopy did spin but not all that hard. But there was no doubt in my mind about chopping it! I did try to get the lines off for a little bit since I was still high up, didn't work (later on video I saw it wasn't a steering line but a whole linegroup, impossible to dislodge I think). So, at ~ 3000 ft, c-ya! If this had been a Manta or something, hmmm, maybe it'd be sorta landable, for me at least. But why risk it.... And personally I wouldn't advise anyone to even try to clear a lineover... Just chop it. If it was my reserve tho, then everything changes of course! ciel bleu, Saskia

How do you know it hasn't? Jim Because so far it has always turned itself off at the end of the day... And I can turn it back on again the next day. The only way this neptune could turn off by itself was probably if the battery was completely empty! ciel bleu, Saskia

We've had one of them freeze and two of them have their cases come apart. Not a great start for this product, huh? At least the mfg. has been gracious about taking them back! Well their (prompt, I must say) reply was to update the software and change the battery. I don't have an infrared port on my laptop, so I'll have to wait untill this weekend to borrow someone else's lappy to get from 1.18 to 1.21 software. But that the battery could be low so soon sounds fishy to me; I've only been using it for 3 jumps before it froze! ciel bleu, Saskia

They speak??? Why??? I want my AAD to have only the absolutely neccesary function. More function=more running code that can lock the unit up. I don't want my AAD to stop working in freefall because the speach software, or the fancy menu system driver crashes. My AAD shall do what it's designed to do. Nothing more, nothing less. Nah they don't make sounds, they just display ' hello' etc Talking about freezing tho, my Neptune did Did 5 jumps with it, as a 2nd audible. First 3 went okay, after the 5th I was filling in my logbook so I checked the Neptune, it said '90 ft 16ft/s' and didn't respond to the buttons at all. Had te remove the battery 3 times for it to reboot and function again. Man you'd think it's software was written by Microsoft?! Oh well, guess that's a bit my own fault for wanting new gadgets.... But I'm glad my cypres has never frozen thus far!! ciel bleu, Saskia

In Holland you have to wear something like nikes (don't know the translation, 'suitable, closed, hardish shoes' something like that), then after you get your B it has to be 'suitable shoeware', meaning teva's and ballet shoes are okay now. After you get C you're on your own, except that at least at our DZ you have to wear shoes when jumping anyway. Sensible, I think. ciel bleu, Saskia

I broke my nose in februari this year, landing my reserve. My repack was done quickly but jumping that same day didn't feel right since my head hurt like hell. I jumped again the next weekend. I had no idea my nose was broken tho figured that out that week as my nose kept hurting... But jumping didn't make anything worse I think, and also because it was my first 'real' mal I wanted to get up in the air real quick so I wasn't easily stopped anyway. ciel bleu, Saskia

One difference in design between Sfly & Birdman
dragon2 replied to TALONSKY's topic in Wing Suit Flying
We flew a 3 way today, me in a Matter (too big suit for me), a guy in a custom GTi and a BMI in a custom S3. And it actually worked less dearching, wings slightly collapsed -> aargh now I'm level but falling behind again -> repeat. I got it eventually tho, not really smooth but we could stay together okay. Fun!!! I haven't hooked up my pro-track to a computer yet, but my new Neptune gives a list of a couple altitudes and speeds for each logged jump, and it read 42 mph at 9k for my first solo jump today, 2nd jump on the Matter suit I ever did. If that's true, it's the slowest I've ever fallen. So the suit performs just fine, fallrate-wise, but not forwardspeed-wise I think, compared to BM. ciel bleu, Saskia -
I believe you can order Lightinings with just about an y linelength, but there is a list somewhere in this forum or maybe also on the PD site of which linelengths are preferred for which size Lightning, so that canopies can be kept standard for record jumps etc. Of course a competition team can still order whatever they want. Also, if you jump it, and have a reference, a rotation lightning is much easier to land then a sequential one, in my opinion. ciel bleu, Saskia

I don't know what you're doing on opening, but I have a hard time getting my Spectre to have an off heading opening, let alone linetwists. And I tried to get it to twist up on opening before I tried BirdManning with it, but I couldn't. Now while BirdManning, yeah I spun it up a couple times, but it untwists itself while I unzip my arms, great canopy! The only time I got an off heading opening was when I was jumping with small wings (freestyle/sitsuit-ish) and wasn't paying enough attention. I doubt there is any difference regarding on/off heading openings between Tri's and Spectres, maybe your canopy is out of trim or something? ciel bleu, Saskia

I was under the impression that there is slight ellipticity (if that's a word ) in the Tri as well, and that it's hard to find any modern canopy that doesn't have at least some "bend" in it. Can anyone clarify? Would you consider a Tri a true square, or semi-elliptical? AFAIK, the Tri is as square as they get. ciel bleu, Saskia

What the hell? So the Gelvenor fabric, that is by the way treaded on both sides, is not true ZP? You probably know what he means The ZP that most other companies use is way more slippery then the ZP Aerodyne used, and is probably what most people are more familiar with. ciel bleu, Saskia

well that is the difference between a suit that is made for you and one that isn't :) Thanx alot Jarno Well both suits weren't made for me, the one that is is still underway, it's been over 3 months now But I guarantee you it won't be looking anything like a shopping bag whatsoever ciel bleu, Saskia
