  1. I agree with that in part.... But when I was trying to get my instructors to let me jump a Lightning 126 (WL 1,25, I was jumping a Spectre 135, Lightning 143 and Safire 126 at the time), I took a good look at PD's charts. According to them, if I consider myself 'intermediate' I should be jumping a ..... 218!!! And a Spectre 150 BTW. I asked Kolla about this when she was at our DZ, it's because Lightnings are difficult to land. Or something. Never did get a very good answer. Also the chart seems to make no difference between F111/hybrid/ZP canopies which I think is weird. Well anyway I never had problems with the 143, the 126 lands easier too. Some people DO have difficulties, I like to go see people land the first time, after being used to Stiletto's and such Some do just fine tho
  2. Depends on the camera... With my D30 (3MegaPixel) 256 MB was enough, with an older 128 as back-up. With my 300D or with a D60/D100 (all 6MP camera's) I switched to 512 MB, with the 256 MB as back-up and I have a 1 GB microdrive as well for ground stuff. With a 14MP camera 2 1GB cards are sorta necessary. And I always bring my laptop so I can dump pics on there. All the cards I use now are fast (SanDisk UltraII, mostly). I like having 2 cards anyway, if the 128 is fast enough for you, get a 256 or 512 and keep the 128 as back-up. ciel bleu, Saskia
  3. Haven't got my camera handy, but what I think you're doing, is importing mpeg instead of avi. As this is compressed way more, the quality is less. If you capture a file, what's the extension it is saved with? (Filename?) ciel bleu, Saskia
  4. We got a couple canopies like that at our dz, well minus the diamonds...... I always think the orange turns too pinkish for my taste ciel bleu, Saskia
  5. It's not just the risk of putting stuff on your head, you're also going to behave differently. There have been camera people boarding planes without a rig, there has even been one to EXIT without one. Also, you will be paying attention to other stuff wearing a camera then you should be paying attention to, like getting yourself safely to the ground. Learn to fly, first! That said, I only have a few camera jumps and not much jumps alltogether. But I know I definitely wasn't ready for a camera with only so few jumps, I think I started when I had 350 or something. Personally I think even as little as 200 jumps is pushing it, at least it would've been for me! ciel bleu, Saskia
  6. No swooper for sure, but I've always been partial to a white canopy with purple ribs/crossbraces/accents. 2nd choice, white canopy with blue, yellow or black ribs/crossbraces,accents etc. 3rd choice: yellow or red canopy with black ribs/crossbraces,accents. ciel bleu, Saskia
  7. In case you want to see some ground pics shot with Henny's kodak: http://www.proton.org/~dragon2/chutes32/index.html The first 20 or 25 pics, filenames starting with D then a number, are taken with the kodak. For some reason I'm missing the group pics I shot with the kodak, they're on another harddrive I think I was impressed by the way the camera handled backlighting (shooting into the sun, colors turned out NICE), and the fps didn't really bother me as much as I thought it would (see series of JC swooping the ditch). The other pics were taken with a Nikon D100 (DSC...) and a Canon 300D (IMG_...). ciel bleu, Saskia
  8. Nope, sorry, WE'RE making the DVD, and we don't have it... ciel bleu, Saskia
  9. That was BTW THE MOST SCARY 1 1/2 secs of video I ever saw They're both lucky to have survived that..... All that was lost was one main canopy (clean in 2) and one still camera lens (found missing, after). And, before you ask, no I don't have the video, only the cameraman has. ciel bleu, Saskia
  10. Finally had the time to put my pics online: http://www.proton.org/~dragon2/chutes32/index.html ciel bleu, Saskia

  12. From what I gather, USB2.0 is faster in potential, at 480 Mbps. But it only reaches that sometimes. But firewire can sustain its 400 Mbps. Googled something (not an extensive search tho): http://www.computervideogear.com/digital_video_capture_card/firewire-vs-usb.htm My own experience: I have a Maxtor external 200 GB 7200 rpm harddrive. I used to connect it to my laptop with usb2, connect my sony camera using the only firewire port on my laptop, and capture to the maxtor. Dropped an occasional frame. Then I couldn't find my usb2 cable one day, and a new one was expensive to get right away. I then discovered a second firewire port on my harddrive which I hadn't really noticed before. So, harddrive to laptop via firewire, then firewire the camera to the harddrive and voila, no more dropped frames... ciel bleu, Saskia

    BASE alone...?

Hey Vrank. You never jumped solo? I got asked a couple of times to drive a jumper and/or be ground crew (amounts to the same thing anyway). With some jumpers I'm not comfortable doing this, with others, yeah sure, I'll go along... So Joris, anytime I'm in the neigbourhood..... Or YOU are, but then I guess you'd have company anyway ciel bleu, Saskia
  14. Nope I own an Atom, which suits me fine. But if somebody gave me a bunch of cash I'd go buy a Voodoo, I do believe
  15. http://www.para-teuge.nl/new/site.php?item=4 There should be a bunch of these pics around since we have 3 cameramen at our DZ that mostly freefly with tandems... Just can't seem to find any of them at the moment ciel bleu, Saskia
  16. I load my Transfair (pre-Techno 128) 1.2:1 and have landed it 3 times so far. The Techno is a good reserve! I personally don't like the french MAINS because of the shorter toggle range and snappier openings, but that's personal. I know a lot of happy people with Merit's, Electra's, Springo's. I wouldn't buy anything but a PD, Techno or maybe Smart, myself, for my main rig. My CReW rig has a big african reserve in it which I only keep because it is BIG (well for me anyway). Anything I'm going to be loading above 1:1 has to be something I trust, ie definately the 2 reserves I mentioned and very probably the Smart too. The Techno is NOT second choice, it's a tie for first, at least for me. ciel bleu, Saskia
  17. Henny Wiggers (Parashoot here) jumped one in Thailand. Some of the pics on the news page www.theworldteam.com/news (pic names should start with HW or HennyWiggers, some pics are with his D100 others with the 14N) and on his own page www.parashoot.nl are shot with this camera. Also I made some pics in Thailand with his camera, on the ground only (some of the group pics etc). He's had a bunch of problems with it (understatement), but it performed well sometimes, esp with the two pics on his first page (the Thailand mouse-over). Don't know off the top off my head which other pics were with the Kodak tho. Also, Norman Kent jumps one. BTW there's 4 versions of this camera now, I'd be very very careful which one I payed so much money for Especially the first one I think is really much more of a studio camera........ Also I'd advice the fastest CF and SD cards (SanDisk UltraII is good), and make 'm big (1 GB is nice) ciel bleu, Saskia
  18. Not so sure of the 'Ugh' but I'll give it an 'Ouch!' ciel bleu, Saskia
  19. I was weathered down this last weekend (the 200 jump limit posted was very very optimistic I thought ), the weekend before it was sh*tty weather too, even tho we had a swooop competition. Some of the competitors were slightly rusty. Since I was weathered down anyway I put a small video together: http://www.12000ft.com/video/three.html Here in Holland a lot of people take winter breaks, but with some warm clothing you can still jump most of the time. Usually a lot of hop'n'pops get done these months, so a couple competitors may have been more current on swoooping last weekend then they'll be in the summer ciel bleu, Saskia
  20. Peter Liemberg who is on this forum might have something to say in this subject, since he is the owner of an island DZ (Ameland, The Netherlands). Also Texel, The Netherlands has a DZ, and I know of at least one incident where a couple tandems ended up in the North Sea during a demo jump. Maybe ask them: info@paracentrumtexel.nl ciel bleu, Saskia
  21. I use weights for canopy formation; usually when I film a team they load more heavily then me. A smaller canopy would work as well but I already jump a 126 . I haven't had any problems with the weights so far, it even makes my Lightning land better because of the extra speed if I land it straight in (no frontrisers). However walking around with 8 kilos of lead isn't really funny . And crashlanding with it wouldn't either, I imagine ciel bleu, Saskia
  22. Got an old 2nd hand chipped 35-105 f3.5/4.5, quite happy with it actually
  23. You can also try http://www.parachutecase.nl which is a shop at Teuge DZ, The Netherlands. The Parachute Case is run by Kees & Trees, Kees was on the world record jump so he knows a thing or 2 about CReW Got my Lightning from him. Also there's a 2nd shop just opening at the same DZ (no website yet) which is run by a dutch national CReW team member. And with Henny at our DZ too, you have a fair change of finding the CReW stuff you need ciel bleu, Saskia
  24. Not yet... I have 465 jumps and have a Diablo 120 lying around, but it is gonna have to wait a while yet Right now I'm jumping a Lightning 126 (Canopy Formation), Triathlon 120 (going to be/is my regular main) and Spectre 135 (was regular main, now is my BirdMan canopy). The Diablo is for when I hit 500 jumps and am really really current. Probably will give it a go in a couple months. For the time being, I'll lend it to experienced jumpers who say this is a fun canopy (which makes me go hmmmmm )
  25. Depends on where you got out and what circuit you flew Usually you get out last and long, then fly a circuit back to the DZ. You do have an amazing potential to fly yourself to a bad spot tho ciel bleu, Saskia
