  1. What do you mean by 'in the DZ'? For non-students, you can rent stuff at The Parachute Case which is a separate shop, next door, like I said. Prices are per jump, they have 2 categories I think, one for brand-new and one for older gear, but I can't tell you how much exactly. I suggest you ask them (see website a couple posts up). They also rent jumpsuits and pro-tec helmets. Anything else, bring it with you or buy it there (alti, goggles etc). ciel bleu, Saskia
  2. That's what a wide angle lense does Every lens does this to some extent, with tele lenses distorting 'the other way' (don't know the english terms for these effects, sorry). I think the solid lenses (waycool etc) have this effect a bit more but I haven't really compared. The more expensive (photocamera) lenses are corrected for this, but usually the only really really straight line is the one in the middle. More wide angle means more distortion, usually. ciel bleu, Saskia
  3. Check out Teuge: http://www.para-teuge.nl/ If you want to rent gear you can go next door to http://www.parachutecase.nl/ which has a lot of rigs for rent, from just-off-student rigs down to a Sabre2 135 etc. Also you can get demo canopies from PD and Icarus here. We jump from a Grand Caravan and are currently open 7 days/week. ciel bleu, Saskia
  4. Then how ´bout my 4 in 580 jumps ?! Beat that! ciel bleu, Saskia
  5. With triple risers? Dunno about that..... Also, my slider has a tendency to come down by itself if I don´t pull it down, usually at about 300 ft, and usually more on the right side It did that 3 times already Okay of course if I HAVE to, I´ll land like that, but I´d rather not. Besides, so far I´ve heard that - in linetwists, leave your brakes alone it´ll make the situation worse - in linetwists, pull the other brake - in linetwists, it won´t make a diffference because the brakelines are twisted up anyway. I just chopped... ciel bleu, Saskia
  6. Sigh.... Had another cutaway last weekend (6 in all now, of which 2 intentionals). Was jumping with a tandem (daughter of a collegue of mine), dumped while still checking for other tandems so when my Spectre turned a bit I didn´t worry. Then i DID worry 4 linetwists and a horizontal canopy and me thinking 'HEY! You´re a SPECTRE! Behave will ya?!'. Chopped it without checking brakes. When I found my stuff after tramping through corn way higher then me for 2 1/2 hours, one brake was loose not sure if this was the cause or not but I never even checked... Oh well, I was under a reserve at 1700 ft, low enough for me. But I didn´t try to fix the spin. Thought it was spinning too hard, anyway... And with the triple risers I have, i´m positive I don´t want to have to fish around to pull the slider down over loose brakes/riser bits while being low and over cornfields. Thanx to myself, I found my freebag, and thanx to a guy working in his garden (I landed next to him) and to the jumper coming to pick me up, we found my main (I never saw it after cutting away). No damage to me or my stuff, so, YAY, everything's good.....
  7. http://www.parachute.nl/ikbeneenspringer/Genver02.pdf this is our medical form. you need it till your B or if you're a TM etc. it is good for 2 years. ciel bleu, Saskia
  8. When my Safire spun up on me and flung me on my back, I didn't think at all - just reacted. I had an rsl on that jump, but I didn't have any linetwists etc on my reserve. When a borrowed Sabre had a lineover, I did think about trying to fix it for a bit, since I was at 4k, but when it started to turn, I just reacted and cut away and pulled silver before it had turned 180o. No rsl this time. If you really need to cutaway, it won't be a problem. I think the smaller problems, like a stuck toggle for instance, may make you doubt. If you're not 100% sure it'll land you okay, don't doubt, go for plan B! ciel bleu, Saskia
  9. Maybe some people are ready much earlier then others. Those few people are not for whom the rules are... I think the experience of say 500 FS jumps is still experience. Maybe 500 CReW or accuracy jumping are less appropriate, but that's where the freestyle requirements come in. At 150 jumps, I know I was still a student in that I had plenty to do in the air without getting distracted by something else like a camera, wingsuit, surfboard. For that kind of stuff, you need at least 200 jumps plus some other stuff here. So most people first try one of these things when they have (way) more then 200 jumps. I think that's a good thing... There will always be people who think they are ready much sooner. I admit we have a whole lot of rules here.... Common sense should make a lot of them unnecessary but apperantly it does not. But we also don't have a lot of skysurf champions running around to make the call. The rules are generalisations, obviously. But they seem to work... ciel bleu, Saskia
  10. Why a normal bridle/PC? As long as the bridle is long enough (the one on my hybrid Triathlon 120 is, tho barely) what's the problem? My 120 has been birdmanned w/the CReW bridle/PC. I think tho I'd have to check, that the Lightning has a shorter bridle then a Tri because it has one attachment point less. Then on a small Lightning the bridle could be too short. ciel bleu, Saskia
  11. The smaller Lightnings are only available in ZP only. I've got about 10 jumps on a ZP 143 with 7 to 9 secs of freefall. DON'T DO THAT (it kinda hurts ya know) However I did jump my 126 out of a Fokker 60 (bagged and w/slider). In fact I'm going to do that again in 2 weeks. This was strongly advised against by some CReW dogs, others said it'd be okay. It is. But did anyone try a ZP 143, 126 or 113 for BirdMen before?? ciel bleu, Saskia
  12. You have never jumped a competition CReW canopy have you? ciel bleu, Saskia
  13. I know that (you got the merrygoround vid right ) but, what does your jumping a small HP 9cell have to do with my question about jumping a 7cell dedicated CReW canopy?! That is also smallish, okay ciel bleu, Saskia
  14. Just saw this ad... Is the seller serious?? I own a Lightning, and it is a nice 7 cell, but ..... Ouch ? Or is it doable? ciel bleu, Saskia
  15. Over here (Holland) we have the following min. requirements: C license (200 freefall jumps + a bunch of other stuff) plus video of the following 2 jumps, performed in a suit without extra drag on the arms: 1) sit-up exit go to stand up within five seconds in stand-up and hold 10 sec. and turn 360o go to daffy and perform three controlled stable dummy pulls. 2) sit-up exit perform 3 layout backloops go to daffy and perform three controlled stable dummy pulls. So far, I haven't done these jumps. Am way too busy doing wingsuit and camera jumps. Skysurf is on my 'to do' SOMETIME list tho
  16. The Springo is a high-performance canopy (like a Stiletto), the Sabre2 is an intermediate canopy (sorta like the french Merit/Electra, probably a bit more performance tho, comparable to Safire/Safire2). So the two are in two different classes. The Springo does come in 140 sqft, the Sabre2 doesn't (135 or 150). ciel bleu, Saskia
  17. Well you're not the only english guy walking around with serious knives....... You should see some of them I haven't looked closely enough to know how they're attached, but some of the crew dawgs have 2 or 3 of those on them... I think tho, England is the only country (I've seen so far) where they use such knives for skydiving, maybe take the hint ciel bleu, Saskia
  18. Huh, I've seen a bunch of (new) Time-Outs, mostly Flashing Version, lying around in one of the shops at my DZ...... And also a bunch of the light thingies. Not an advertisement, I don't have anything to do with said shop, but this is their website: http://www.skydivesupplies.nl/ edited to say: I mean new as in not used, not the newest version TimeOut ciel bleu, Saskia
  19. Most people I know did their license doing FS. So I wanted to do something else.......... You have to choose 1 discipline here and complete a task list. I tried freestyle, oops that's way more difficult than it looks.... Freefly, ok I can do most of the stuff on the list but docking on somebody while headdown, ehm, not a good idea just yet, me thinks....... So I did CReW. Had a lot of fun doing it too, although it took me a year to get all of it done. Right now I mainly do birdmen jumps, with some freeflying and crew camera jumps thrown in. Just try stuff out, see what you like... Although a couple CReW jumps would be something I'd advise everyone doing at some point, 'cause you learn a bunch that's also useful in general under canopy. I also never learned to fly on my belly, not really well, so maybe I started freeflying a bit soon, but I did have fun doing it ciel bleu, Saskia
  20. Last weekend we had our first DST (dutch swooping tour) competition over water. With turbulence too... Njoy....... click here, then on the bottom video ciel bleu, Saskia
  21. dutch canopy rules I don't agree with all the rules (ie a Spectre is okay at 25 jumps, for a tRiathlon you need 100, but you can jump a Sabre 1 from jump 1) but it's something... ciel bleu, Saskia
  22. So what do you call half a linegroup over 1 1/2 cells on a Sabre, then?! I had it on tape but that tape has dissappeared . Freezeframe showed that there were a number of lines definately going the wrong way (not the steering lines btw). ciel bleu, Saskia
  23. For a simple clicky, press the button marked 'url' right below your post. Then insert link (copy - paste from your browser). Press button again. C'est ça! http://www.paragear.com For a nicer one, press button twice, then insert the a space and then link (between double quotes) before the first ] and put some text between ] and [ . That make sense? Paragear ciel bleu, Saskia
  24. yep, and I have pop3 email, ie not hotmail etc. ciel bleu, Saskia
