VERY scary Double Mal Video. A must see.

Cool picture! I saw a couple by Wendy Smith in the French ParaMag a couple months before and was wondering how to do it.... Another thing on my list for those bad-weather weekends ciel bleu, Saskia

Burst rate of a D100 is 3 fps for 2 secs (6 frames): plenty quick. It's still faster then a digi rebel for the first 2 secs, and after 4 secs too, so it's not ONLY 6 frames I always thought it's a great camera. Only now my D70 is faster ciel bleu, Saskia

Hi, Take a look at my website for like a couple thousand pics taken with a D100, D70, Canon D30, 300D and Kodak pro/N. With the D100 and D70 I tend to just use the P setting, or depending on the light 1/350 or 1/500. 1/125 is too slow. I usually use a tele zoom 28-105 (a cheap Sigma one but f2.8/4.0) which usually gets me what I want. ciel bleu, Saskia

Think your best bet is either a student or tandem video, since most jumpers tend to just show the freefall and/or landing, depending on the discipline they're doing. ciel bleu, Saskia

AFAIK no mention was made of an RSL (he shouldn't be jumping one with a camera anyway). From the narrative, he pulled the reserve himself while on his back, because he couldn't clear the main. Anyway this thread should be dead since there's a couple other about this video... ciel bleu, Saskia

Above 2000 only? I think I know what you mean, but if I ended up 1000 ft with a crappy canopy I'd still chop it! BTW I settled on not-flaked tail, not really a lineover but close enough... ciel bleu, Saskia

Lost main, Need advice about canopy for replace...

The guy from The Netherlands that won a custom Aerodyne canopy at the Ampuria Xmas boogie tombola will sell his coupon for EUR 1000 because he had just bought brand new gear. This gives you a brand new custom Aerodyne main (for you I'd suggest a Triathlon at that WL...), cheap! ciel bleu, Saskia -
Henny's got 3 helmets set up like this, at least one was made by a Russian (don't know if it was Andrey, I think Henny'd have said if it was since I've met Andrey). He still jumps the first helmet, the 2nd (russian) has a problem he said, the third (dutch) isn't quite finished yet (no visor etc) and he did indeed have some trouble getting the jaw switch to work on that one. ciel bleu, Saskia

Henny and Martin are not doing very well, so I'm defecting: Go Bruno, go Bruno If you can read dutch, Bruno's keeping a diary w/pics here: http://www.valschermsport.be/wc_swoop/vvp_wc-swoop.htm ciel bleu, Saskia

How did you deal with it? Well the first time it happened I tried pumping (that supposedly NEVER works so why was I taught that as a student? Never had closed endcells before even as a student so didn't try this before). Then tried holding the toggles down a little longer (amazing how fast you can count when your reserve isn't flying at its best). Then tried adding speed by turning and by frontrisering a bit so that the pressure would open the endcells. That could never have worked due to lack of crossports on this particular model, but I was only told that AFTER. I finally debated stalling the canopy but thought that since it was FLYING and I could keep it flying straight (however, no flare left that way) and it was my LAST canopy I'd better leave well enough alone, didn't want a lineover or something. Number 2 works. Nowhere close to stalling but full brakes. However you need to hold the toggles down quite long (see video, it took me about 10 secs this time, and the right side must've cleared when I steared back towards the DZ with my rear riser). This supposedly is common knowledge but I didn't know it when I needed it first... ciel bleu, Saskia

Saskia, Do you have a close up picture of that switch? I'm curious to see how that works.. Iwan Hmmm I don't want to mess around with the liner in his helmet, and Henny's in Lake Wales at the moment. When he's back I can ask him, or maybe you can ask him yourself how it works, he built it himself so he knows best (it's not a computer so I know nuthing ). He's on dropzone as ParaShoot. Cool.. I'll shoot him a pm. So he takes a picture how? Opens his mouth and that fires the trigger? I'm confused how else you would operate a switch with your jaw. Iwan If you bite, your jaw muscles get bigger at the top of your jawbone. My very scientific explanation ciel bleu, Saskia

That was the way we did a couple of competitions here, with the 5 ft gates. This proved to be very hard to judge (and it used to be my job so I should know ). We had the video right on the sensor tripod at first when we were still testing the sensor system. This was too close if you want to see WHO's score you're reviewing. So I put up fingers or shouted the jumper's name so we'd know if a jump was to be reviewed who's who. Then we moved the video tripod backwards. Workable, but less accurate for judging. Plus the swoopers got better (faster) so we sometimes did not have a frame in the video where the foot was lined up with the sensor! I for one am very glad that I don't have to judge anymore like that... The sensor system is so reliable now that we can use outside video (from the entire swoop) for reviewing the gates, because you either hear the horn or you don't

The Time-out I have is an older model, and it is very thick. The one before that is thinner and smaller, and the current (if they still make em) model I don't really know. But if you need a thin dytter and want to buy new, maybe get a pro-dytter cause the price has dropped since L&B anounced their new products. ciel bleu, Saskia

Hi, Yes it was pro-packed. And BOTH endcells were closed this reserve ride. I broke my nose the first ride I had on that reserve because I had to land a 128 sqft reserve minus the right endcell which had no air in it whatsoever... I don't have interconnection holes in my reserve, and did not know that So I ended up hook-flaring myself into the frozen ground, ouch, not recommended. Next reserve ride was an intentional just before this one, no problem. Then this reserve ride I had slight endcell closure on BOTH sides... But now I know how to deal with it. The last reserve ride so far (knock knock) on it, again, no problem. However, if somebody has a nice PD126 or Techno 128 lying around for free???? ciel bleu, Saskia

I have an overbite and after one jump with my new biteswitch I decided that wasn't the best purchase I could've made... This one is NOT going to last very long, the teethmarks are already showing... Next switch for me will be a tongue switch! I really like the jaw switch Henny Wiggers has, his helmet is custom made for his face otherwise that wouldn't work. Nothing in your mouth this way so it presumably lasts forever... It is home built though. ciel bleu, Saskia

That was my guess as well after looking at the vid a couple of times yesterday... At the time it looked like a lineover, and it definately looked like something I ought to chop whatever it was, which I did, and that's the most important part
-
Ok thanx. We don't have the higher gates here, but I think you'd need really really big (read very expensive) reflectors if the gates move around. Or steadier gates We usually use quality photographers tripods which are quite steady for the land sensors, and we have metal poles for in the water. But those are not high enough for those big intermediate gates. Now how do they video that then? ciel bleu, Saskia

Looking at the 'reserve.jpg' picture, there is some yellowish material visible directly to the left of the 'kink' in the canopy, where the 'lineover' appears. Was the PC the same colour as the slider? The pc is green which is indeed what you see there. ciel bleu, Saskia

If it is a lineover then where did my pilotchute/bridle go? It has to be trapped underneath the lineover then, which doesn't seem that likely to me since it is just a small lineover and to the side. This is what got me wondering yesterday... ciel bleu, Saskia

Until how late do they jump? It's 18:00 there now I think. ciel bleu, Saskia

Not sure if this is what you mean, but I've done one tandem with a new TM. Here at least you need 6 jumps with licensed jumpers before you can take a "real" tandem passenger. Also did some jumps with TM's who either were test jumping a new canopy or lineset change or were not current enough for "real" tandem passengers (after the winter). ciel bleu, Saskia
