  1. The rendering part isn't quit true: I did the conversion for the previous World Team record DVD, from PAL to NTSC. The rendering of the same PAL avi clip to PAL mpeg or to NTSC mpeg makes quite a difference, actually. Mostly I rendered the movie to one avi clip first (pretty fast, just the fades and titles etc) then converted to NTSC mpeg at the same time, because otherwise (in Premiere at least) you have to tell each and every different clip on the timeline to de-interlace and change size, so if you have just one clip that's way less work. ciel bleu, Saskia
  2. I can do the conversion on a pc but it's not real quick. Most of stand-alone converters I know of are more expensive than most miniDV camera's... Cheapest is USD 300 or so, I think. No clue if these are any good. I would just sell the camera and buy an NTSC camera. Even if you do the conversion it's not going to improve any, quality-wise. ciel bleu, Saskia
  3. ...and all the guys walking round most DZ's in World Team Jumpsuits, wearing blue World Team helmets, with World Team T shirts, telling everyone how great it was to be on the World Team and telling everyone how they broke the World record! Don't believe everything you hear! ciel bleu, Saskia
  4. Depending on how uch you want to save, you're going to need more harrdrive space than that. however, doesn't have to be firewire, usb2 works fine too and is often cheaper and easier to find. It's own mains for the ext hd, not necessary, I can edit off a laptop harddrive in a usb2 case too, it's handy for on the road, though more expensive than a big external harddrive, per GB. Mainly you need: dvd writer, 1 gb memory, as much harddrive space as you can get, with 7200 rpm for big ones and 5400 (or faster) for small hd's. I found the ideo card isn't that big an issue I'm running a crappy shared-memory one and it works fine) however processor speed really really helps when rendering. Get a 2.4 P4 or similar, and get a good processor not a celeron-type. ciel bleu, Saskia
  5. ? Did you miss The World Team 2006 forum ? And All the videos? And The Worldteam Website? ciel bleu, Saskia
  6. If your tower has a seperate pci card and not on-board firewire inside, then you could open up the pc and move that card to another slot. But only do this if you know what you're doing. This particular plug-in is for HDV footage only, and for Premiere Pro. Don't know if you're running any seperately-installed plug-ins that might conflict. Did you reboot the pc before working with premiere? Running out of ideas ciel bleu, Saskia
  7. Try doing a search. Or, think about this: do you think throwing a DVD recorder out of an airplane is a good idea? ciel bleu, Saskia
  8. No idea if any of this helps any Is the harddrive defragged? Enough free harddrive space? Not running a laptop on battery power? Not running a lot of programs at the same time (Norton!)? Depending on your particular setup you can try changing pci slots for your firewire card. Tried a different tape? Different camera? Importing already captured NTSC footage into a PAL project and the other way round shouldn't be a problem, however capturing in the wrong format for the project will give problems. Which I think Zoter means. I had big problems importing HDV footage into a premiere hdv project, same digital crap you're experiencing, but after installing a plug-in (Cine-Form) I got it to work fine. ciel bleu, Saskia
  9. No taxes involved, luckily. But the DFV has it's own rules about what can and cannot be jumped and AFAIK even the main canopy has to be checked by a rigger and signed off, if you have a German licence. Reserve repacks vary from 120 days to 1 yr depending on container and reserve manufacturer/type. But like I said, German skydivers should be able to tell you more, or check here: http://www.fallschirmsportverband.de/. (sidenote: hey they'll let you do SL /AFF from the age of 14 in Germany!) ciel bleu, Saskia
  10. Note: D = 200 jumps in Australia. An AAD is required until D licence, and between D & E (500 jumps), either an AAD or an RSL is required. Again, I think this is one weird rule ciel bleu, Saskia
  11. The German skydivers will know best what paperwork and checking/repacking the rig will need, if I were you I'd ask this question in the German forum! ciel bleu, Saskia
  12. That is one very weird rule. AAD's and RSL's have totally different purposes, the use of one doesn't preclude the use of the other. This rule totally doesn't make sense IMO. Didn't Australia use to have this rule but changed it? BTW when I was in Norway last year I was told AAD's were mandatory, period, nothing about RSL's. ciel bleu, Saskia
  13. A polfilter is really only good if you know what you're doing. You need to set it at just the right angle for the sky at that moment and then FLY at just the right angle too for it to work. You'll be busy enough figuring out basic photography without adding extra's like that so I wouldn't let that stop you from buying a good lens. ciel bleu, Saskia
  14. Not possible. Video that´s on SD is very compressed, miniDV video is very very big, about 3.6 MB per second, or 13 GB per tape! ciel bleu, Saskia
  15. The Netherlands untill C licence (200 jumps min) ciel bleu, Saskia
  16. D'oh, just saw that we start our Nationals on the same day your competition ends ciel bleu, Saskia
  17. Enthusiastic, aren't you? ciel bleu, Saskia
  18. OTOH, learning to take a decent picture before mounting it can't hurt... I know a few camera people who have no clue about photography, they just use the settings that always work. So in a different situation they don't know how to take a decent pic The same goes for video too. I usually can use a few extra camera people on the ground for say swoop competitions, and some of the footage I get from "real" camera flyers is quite bad FI lots of -uncontroleed- zooming, dirty lenses, into the sun, bad framing, moving the camera too much, out of focus, .... Luckily sometimes someones kid or girlfriend does real good
  19. Smart name, since there already was a D30 ciel bleu, Saskia
  20. Cypres says basically the same in their manual. The variation in pressure can fool your AAD for a while, so if you go jumping right after having been in a closed car (ie, the DZ van) without rebooting your AAD, you could have a premature AAD fire. It has happened. ciel bleu, Saskia
  21. Like I said before, during world team 2004 there were major error99 probs with 300D's (digi rebels). Duting the Dutch100 we had error99 probs with D10/D20. However for WT2006 there was one camerawoman with a 350D and it performed fine AFAIK, as did the D20's that were there. ciel bleu, Saskia
  22. My 135 is for sale again, and I'll ship anywhere Based in The Netherlands so pretty close too
  23. No way. I have an old .3 (doesn't say which brand it is) that is crap as soon as you zoom in even a little. With the WayCool .3 you can zoom a fair bit more before it gets blurry. Not that you should zoom a single element lens anyway, but definately a big difference. ciel bleu, Saskia
  24. But that way you still lose the menu. If I were to re-encode a DVD I'd want to use the orginal files and not the encoded + ripped ones, since you lose a lot of quality when first encoding the mpeg files, and with the 20% size difference and with the different frame rate between PAL and NTSC, I'd really want the best quality to start with since you're gonna lose some anyway. But then again, I can play anything here so I'm not looking for a way to do the conversion, for myself. ciel bleu, Saskia
  25. I just got a Nikon D70S (as opposed to my D70) and I loooove it
