Harbotronics does mods for various small camera's ciel bleu, Saskia

The Sony lens fogs up on the inside of the lens itself, not where it goes on the video camera, so you'd have to demolish the lens to get to it ciel bleu, Saskia

Hmmm I'll ask the French guys, curious what they're jumping now. But the Dutch guys have (well used to have, no team this year unfortunately) microlined tri's 120 and 99. They do pack brakes undone, and they're shortlined. ciel bleu, Saskia

If it's the same as the A1E, you autofocus to something far away then switch to manual, then you'll get the mountain icon in your viewfinder (at least if I remember right what I had to do). I like my TRV25 much better in that regard, with direct button control... ciel bleu, Saskia

There's a windsock, and they get a steering briefing before every jump in front of the dz photo. ciel bleu, Saskia

They are told to flare at 2m, but usually it taks them 3 jumps or so (that's what it took for me) to figure out to flare lower They have to hold the flare if they flare to heigh. We never teach the half-break thing AFAIK. ciel bleu, Saskia

We don't, at our DZ, some Dutch DZ's do though but they have trickier landing areas. Our students usually manage to land on the field they're supposed to, and in the right direction too ciel bleu, Saskia

Do Lightnings open faster than comp Tri's? I know at least one crw team who jumps comp Tri's with microline, with spiders. Don't know if the Russians etc who jump Tri's now have microline, but wouldn't be surprised if they had. ciel bleu, Saskia

It's out on DVD now, NTSC only, amazon.com has it. ciel bleu, Saskia

Also ChuteShop used to have a 9cell reserve (and main), the Predator. We have one lying around in a rig but I wouldn't want to sell it to anyone as a reserve. Or am I being a wuss? Anyone know more about 9cell reserves? ciel bleu, Saskia

A Sabre in full flight is trimmed way steeper than a Pilot, so in full flight a same-size Pilot will get you much further. Haven't got enough jumps on either to say if with brakes or rearrisers the Pilot will get you further as well but my guess would be yes. ciel bleu, Saskia

My sony .6 also did that, I lost it now and I'm not buying another one ciel bleu, Saskia

I've heard good things about Ravenna. Haven't been there myself though. BTW view that webpage with IE, doesn't work in Firefox. ciel bleu, Saskia

Nothing wrong with my camera, the girl was just on the other side of the camera Although admittedly I wish I looked more like that one ciel bleu, Saskia

Sony's tend to work in freefall, and usually KEEP ON working for lots of jumps, which is a big plus There are a few people using other brand (Canon, JVC, Panasonic) camera's, but usually they have issues, like not handling moisture at all well, dying after a few jumps, no LANC port, not being able to shut off autofocus, not being able to shut off anti-shake, if you CAN do manual setting you may have to re-set them every time you turn the camera on, stuff like that. You can try and be one of the few that can make another camera work, it's your money.... Not all Sony's work though, avoid the DVD and micro-mv ones (this one does work but it's expensive, tapes are expensive, you're not compatible with your software or anyone else's camera and the quality is less), and some models (usually the high-end consumer models) have had issues. But most Sony's just... work ciel bleu, Saskia

Oh I got a stock lens (this shop lets you choose between a number of lenses) with my D70, it's just that I don't want to jump a zoom lens if I can help it. The one I have is rather crappy (cheapo sigma wide angle zoom), and even the GOOD zoom lenses are not as good as a fixed lens is. And the good zoom lenses usually are pretty heavy anyway. Also you have to tape the zoom of course. I also definately want a f/2.8 lens and most (cheaper) zooms are slower. But if you have a wide angle zoom and it's all you've got and/or you're perfectly happy with yours, yeah you can jump a zoom of course. ciel bleu, Saskia

Optimal/safest: docile 7cell like Spectre, Triathlon etc 1 step above that, a square 9 cell (Sabre etc) And more fun: Sabre2, Safire 1/2, Pilot, Silhouette etc Diablos also makes nice WS canopies. My own WS canopy is a Spectre 135, I like it but I like the Pilot 124 much better, solid as hell for WS jumps. Safire2 119 was also quite good. ciel bleu, Saskia

Depends how much money you've got and what you want to do with it. I've got a 20mm nikkor lens myself, cheap option but the 30mm (compared to 35mm film) you get is fairly long. Works fine for my wingsuit jumps though. I also jumped the 16mm nikkor fisheye, don't really like the half-fisheye effect but still not a really expensive lens and the 1.5x16mm gives you a nice angle. For real fisheye the 10.5 mm is cool but I wouldn't use it enough to buy it. Coolest lens is the 14mm nikkor, but also very expensive... I'd like an 18mm best I think but haven't jumped or even seen one yet. Definately don't get a longer lens than 20mm. ciel bleu, Saskia

You'd have to come up with a removable spider or mesh slider first, you can't jump with a regular slider it takes too long to open. Then, most CF canopies are not bagged so you'd have to figure that out too. The full RDS system results in more malfunctions. One malfunction and no record. Also things happen real quick after exit because they open so fast, people would need some separation before fiddling with removable stuff. And everyone needs to use this probably otherwise there will be a difference in drag again. Seems to me more trouble than it's worth, but maybe... ciel bleu, Saskia

Here you can't get a TM rating younger than 19, because you can start jumping at 16 and then have to have 3 yrs in the sport besides the rest of the requirements to become a TM. Unless they count doing a couple tandemjumps and packing a lot of chutes etc as "active in the sport", which I doubt ciel bleu, Saskia

Neptune for visual use and canopy alarms

If you have a fullface helmet, no way. If you have an open helmet, sometimes, not reliably at all. ciel bleu, Saskia -
wings container for a 170, now with a 190...any problem?
dragon2 replied to artistcalledian's topic in Safety and Training
That's because it IS smaller. All original Safires (not Safire2) and Omnis are about 8% (1 size) smaller than the label says, do a search here for the full story. ciel bleu, Saskia -

If you changed the main size, did you also consider the reserve size? ciel bleu, Saskia -
Spot metering exists only on the 5D and the 1 series. The 5D means you are looking at more than 2.5 times the cost of a 20D, or more than 4 times the cost of a Rebel XT/Rebel 350. Mmm you're right I thought the D10/D20 had spot metering. But at least they have center weighted and partial, which work fine, the 300D doesn't. I had problems with my 300D when shooting landings, had to over-expose usually. Never had to do that with my D30 or my 50E. ciel bleu, Saskia

My first choice would be the D200, it got most of the features of a D2X and is still jumpable as far as size and weight go. As far as money goes... I'll have to stick to my D70 D70/D70s is not that expensive, at least not compared to the rest... And I'll probably get to play with a D200, if only on the ground
