I'm after a new canopy.... suggestions please
dragon2 replied to shropshire's topic in Gear and Rigging
For wingsuit you want a docile/moderately docile canopy. Ie, one without much "wang". Nice wingsuit canopies include spectre/triathlon but also sabre 1&2/safire 1&2/pilot, so if you buy one of these (at a reasonable wingload) you're good to go for wingsuiting in that department. ciel bleu, Saskia -
Or an Argus. About which is better, there are loads of threads on here about people's opinions about that already, we sure don't need another one.... Try a search ciel bleu, Saskia

1. so far haven't heard of any problems besides the oldfashioned "is my camera recording" I got a few times, no lanc is a pain for now 2. yes but only using the vcr quality composit, a shame IMO for such a camera, editing on a pc is much much higher quality but takes longer than tape based HDV (HC5 etc), at least for now 3. too big esp. with the hdv resolution lens you want to use on it (raynox hd3030/hd3031 is what most are using here) 4. should work fine, however if you are a freeflyer with 150 jumps no tandemmaster should let you anywhere near him/her for a loooooooong time 5. no clue ciel bleu, Saskia

Opinions Please - Brightest Canopy Color?
dragon2 replied to slotperfect's topic in Gear and Rigging
I´m thinking a pattern might work better in some cases, I know a canopy with alternating black and yellow cells that´s a signal pattern for sure. My own vengeance is magenta-yellow alternating, can´t get more visible than that, and that´s a good thing -
Differences between video wide angle lenses
dragon2 replied to Rover's topic in Photography and Video
While that is true for Canon, it's not for Nikon The D3 sees wheher it's a DX or FF lens and will only use the 1.5 crop for DX lenses, so they are still usable -
The Canon kit lens is the only one remotely usable in freefall. Personally I think it is a pice of crap too although other here disagree I think you should use a fixed fast lens, like a canon 15mm f/2.8 it'll show in your pictures

Hot tip: don't do this (at 0:18 into the video) This is the 8way base for the bigways (~30) we plan this year at our DZ, the same video guy as in this video got hit on his neck/head the last time they tried a 30way, broke his videocamera (HC1). They're starting smaller now ciel bleu, Saskia

Need advice on video and camera gear
dragon2 replied to NexGenSkydiver's topic in Photography and Video
Look around the forums a bit, basically it's a Sony HC5 or Sony CX6/7 for a HDV topmount and a Nikon D80/D70S or one of the Canon digi rebels for stills. ciel bleu, Saskia -

We have rules about that, wingload max 1.1 for

You only find the optical steady shot in some of the top-end models, the rest of the cameras have electrical steady shot which can be turned off so no problem with the cameras you mention. ciel bleu, Saskia

You should be able to sell a single element lens for more than a raynox would cost you, at least over here ciel bleu, Saskia
-
Seen some nice knots in pilotchutes (!), usually ones with a hackey handle and in combination with a wingsuit or camera wings where the pilotchute was in the burble for a bit and had time to 'dance around'. ciel bleu, Saskia

Why are you jumping autofocus? The single element lenses aren't great for that and you have to be careful the focus doesn't hunt, manual focus seems the way to go for camcorders. Also, why are you putting a low-res single element lens on a hdv camera? Seems a shame to lower its quality thay way. I jump the hc5 in manual focus and with a hdv lens, like the raynox hd3030 or raynox 5050 or similar. Mine usually has the hd3030 on it, love it for tandem/fs4/wingsuit/etc etc. I put mine on infinity every day, technically that's a bit too far away and I should use a closer setting but it's easy to see if I set it that day as the focus setting only stays put for 16 hours or so (can be wrong about the number). ciel bleu, Saskia

It's common netetiquette to search before you post, and if you still want to post, to continue the older thread. But if you have a problem with common courtesy ciel bleu, Saskia
