There are some vengeances with a tendency to open off-heading, I love my 135 and a 135 and a 120 I borrow sometimes, I jumped another 135 that always opened in a left turn... If I didn't wingsuit and they didn't pack so big I'd fly a vengeance still. ciel bleu, Saskia

a) canopies may or may not fly together, size is not the only factor b) the chances of you under JUST your reserve are way higher than the chances of you under BOTH canopies at once. a + b = get a reserve you are comfortable landing anywhere in any condition, regardless of your main. ciel bleu, Saskia

The sigma 15mm f/2.8 is great and isn't that heavy Want heavy? Got myself an old 2nd hand 80-200mm f/2.8. It sure takes GREAT pictures. Wonder if I can put it on my head ciel bleu, Saskia

Um no, the GUY was responsible for saving the guy's life Any AAD can fail to fire or fire at a different altitude than set to when in a non-belly to earth posisiton, and even when you ARE. ciel bleu, Saskia

Is it a big (long) video and do you have a FAT32 formatted harddrive? If so you may need a NTFS formatted drive since FAT32 has a file limit of 4gb, if you try to write a bigger file to a FAT32 drive you get error messages like "no permission" or "harddrive full". ciel bleu, Saskia

I'd get a sigma or canon (preferred) 15mm. ciel bleu, Saskia

Short answer, it's not a Sony therefore chances are high it'll break awfully soon. Longer answer: haven't looked into the specs real hard because of that, but seems to have an optical stabilising system that'll probably cause the video to bounce around in freefall. No lanc of course and no substitute for it. AFAIK there are no SD card cameras (yet) that produce real high resolution (DV/HDV quality) footage. Expensive answer: go ahead and try it, come back after 50 jumps and tell us if a) it still works and b) it produces anything resembling decent video ciel bleu, Saskia

Skydive Rotterdam (The Netherlands) went from a Porter (10 jumpers) to a Cessna 208 Super CargoMaster (19 jumpers) not long ago, a caravan is cheaper, provided you have the jumpers for it. ciel bleu, Saskia

Because I have to re-size the 4:3 clips to fit and make a decision about the horizontal positioning (sometimes people fill up the screen...), and because the computer then takes more time to render those resized clips. The pc at the dz isn't so bad (it better not be) but for my laptop it's hard work. ciel bleu, Saskia

True, however with the current usd-eur thing a used spectre 150 may very well cost the same as a new one if you go to the states anyway. I bought a spectre 150 for my first canopy 6 years ago and it cost me the same as a good 2nd hand one, and I paid shipping, taxes and import duties too... And now the dollar has plummeted it only gets better for us. So yeah, in this case, I'd go for a new main too, esp one that will resell for as much as he will have paid for it

16:9. I have a HC5 and I want to shoot HD and it'll only downconvert to widescreen, and I like widescreen anyway (for tandems at least), we have more tandem vidiots shooting 16:9 now than 4:3 but lots of other people still shoot in 4:3, giving me more work when editing daily vids ciel bleu, Saskia

Some canopies are better able to be safely landed on rears then others, f.i. if you fly a Merit or a Springo, and have a stuck or broken brakeline, I'd chop it for sure before trying to land it on rears... ciel bleu, Saskia

How do you know what pilot chute size is good for your canopy size?
dragon2 replied to scp's topic in Gear and Rigging
A pilotchute comes with the rig, not with the canopy. ciel bleu, Saskia -
First clip/shorten the song to where you want it to end then use effects > audio transitions > crossfade > constant power to fade out. ciel bleu, Saskia

Then how come you stalled it on landing, and don't seem to know what happened ("should I pull it down more")? ciel bleu, Saskia

You DID try that up high before landig right ciel bleu, Saskia

In The Netherlands, any other method than direct bag is not allowed. So.... ciel bleu, Saskia

Is there something wrong with my openings?
dragon2 replied to mircan's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
You need to pull down the fronts as far as you can (from full brakes, it's way easier) then look up at the canopy, it shouldn't distort much if any then. I bet right now you can't even go to fronts because the canopy will start to buck... If so, definately too-short lines and like mentioned before that length has no bearing on openings. Safires open nice and slow, which is why I jump one for camera work -
I use a laptop + nero. I want to dump my stills onto my laptop anyway for keeps, I shoot jpg+raw so need to give the student just the jpgs and I can rotate the pics if I have the time (frontmounted upside down camera). ciel bleu, Saskia

Copy the biggest .vob file to your harddrive. Rename to .mpg. Import that into your favorite video editing program. Export to something small enough to upload. ciel bleu, Saskia

Normal as in, on a slope? ciel bleu, Saskia

Try search............ HC5 is a great skydiving camera. It should be topmounted only. Get a FTN or FTP type helmet if you want to add stills (front or top) later. Get a raynox HD lens (= big = another reason to topmount it). Oh, and get some more jumps of course. ciel bleu, Saskia

I jumped my veng135 @ a wl of 1.2-1.3 (w/lead), loved it. It packs up big though and I wanted a smaller rig. Mine opens on heading every time, as does the borrowed 120 I jump sometimes, I jumped another 135 that always opened/dove to the left Wouldn't recommend buying a vengeance without test jumping that particular canopy first... My 135 is so nice I did some wingsuit jumps with it too I could only fit a veng97 in my current rig, not an option when jumping a wingsuit and too small for me anyway, but if I ever get a 2nd rig again, a veng135 or 120 would be high on my list
