So? Fix them I had to update my templates too.... Will have to be done eventually as more and more people switch to HD. ciel bleu, Saskia

Haven't heard any comments whatsoever, we shoot about 50/50 4:3 and 16:9 now. Videos are always shown on a huge plasma tv at 16:9, I really really really hate how 4:3 videos come out then, I prefer the black sides (did I mention I don't like stretched-out videos? ) but still, no comments at all one way or the other. ciel bleu, Saskia

Yeah... I was in Empuria when I had 204 jumps, having never jumped there before I stayed on the ground when they posted a 200 jump limit "But, but, you have 200 jumps, right?!? You can JUMP!!!" ciel bleu, Saskia

we have. Girl and guy go up on same load, two shooters. One gets film, the other gets a CD. one gets 24 exposures, the other gets 40-50. One can browse, print, share right away, the other gets the pleasure of waiting, possible screw up by 1 hour photo, no browsing, has to scan to share, can't print their own. Film is easier, but if you have two people that can compare experiences... We have exactly the same problem. Only 2 jumpers with no digital left, of which one does the bulk of the tandem vids I've had family of tandem passengers come up to me demanding to know why we don't have digital yet, ehm, "this IS digital" , but last time they got film, and of course the couples and groups can be suprised at best and annoyed at worst ciel bleu, Saskia

The first is correct. I really don't understand the big deal here, everyone at this side of the pond knows the PdF version of the slinks which look the same as Aerodyne's, also there are more manufacturers with the same design (metal ring). Seen 'em once, seen 'em all Yeah you can connect them wrong but PD softlinks have one step extra so that's one more step to get wrong. RTM, no big deal no?! ciel bleu, Saskia

Hah hah ok, people that actually visit my DZ The best part of the 3030 lens is that you can zoom it much better than most lenses, so a .4 or .45 should be very doable. ciel bleu, Saskia

Just about everyone I know with a HDV camera jumps the raynox 3030 or a newer version of it (the difference is just the step-up rings you get with it). The 5050 is too narrow for tandemvideo IMO, let alone for FS4 exits, I like to fly close, I also have a 16mm lens on my Nikon I want to sorta match with the video. ciel bleu, Saskia

mp4 is not the same as mpeg4 though is it? mp4 as in music files. ciel bleu, Saskia

Next time if someone does a video for you ask if they burn it as an .avi then you won't have trouble editing it and also the quality will be loads better than the movie getting compressed at least 4 times like you have now. You shouldn't need any convertor unless it was protected in some way. Also, ppro has no trouble using mp3s, never used mp4s but usually all you need is to install the right codec. ciel bleu, Saskia

You could ask on the belgian forum, here: http://www.valschermsport.be/forum/index.php Of course Teuge (NL) is open on weekdays ciel bleu, Saskia

I used to jump a topmounted trv25 without protection, tried a cameracondom for a while but hated it so stuck with a L-bracket thingy for my lens and 2 extra velcro straps. It handles jumping, weather, a few not so graceful landings etc just fine, until someone sat on my helmet and trashed the camera The pc2 I jumped after that for a little while had no bracket just the straps. My sidemounted pc106 has a neoprene jacket, mostly because that camera is way more fragile, plasticky, and also because I got it for free My topmounted hc5 does have a box, because I could get one for eur 63 (instead of the usual eur 150-200). My nikon d80 has the rubber camera armor. ciel bleu, Saskia

Unable to firewire footage to a PC120?

It's not in the menu since it's a non-touchscreen camera. You put the camera into vcr mode and then press the rec + the "empty" button at the same time to start recording. These buttons are behind the screen. ciel bleu, Saskia -
You can copy and playback ntsc footage from a ntsc camera, most PAL sony cams can do this, that is probably what was meant (?) ciel bleu, Saskia

I sold my 300D as fast as I could after world team '04. The firmware hack wasn't available then or I only learned of it later, can't remember. Anyway my warranty was still valid when I got rid of it so wouldn't have tried it yet anyway. I had plenty of error99, enough to cure me of canon after having had 3 nice eos cameras (loved my D30) and make the (expensive) switch to nikon. We also saw plenty of err99 on 10Ds and a few on 20D. My nikons never did anything like that to me. The 5D is very nice, too bad about the price though. I'd love a fullframe camera in a 40D/D80 size and price range

You will want to do lots of jumps with a videocamera first, untill you can get the shot you want and are used to the extra attention you have to pay to the camera (setting right, battery full, tape queued, etc), when you feel ready to take on another challenge you can add (or just jump) a stills camera. Do not underestimate the weight, but a D200 is certainly jumpable. I'd try the D200 first if that is what you have and are used to, you will need a very good fitting pro-type helmet, that'll help with the weight, try jumping it by itself first no video, (I'd advise a lightweight videocamera to go with it later on) and of course use a slow-opening canopy. If you do decide to get a D70, get the D70s like said, not a D70 or a D70-with-D70s-firmware, it needs to say D70s on the label on front of the camera. The D70 does not have a cable remote so it can only be jumped with an IR remote or will have to be modded by Harbotronics (usd 200 I think) so I'd get a D70s or D80. For the weight, the lens also makes a difference, a sigma 15mm or nikkor 16mm are lightweight choices, if you want to jump a sigma 10-20 or similar the weight goes up, never mind a nikkor 14mm Your neck and back have to take all this weight, personally I'll stick to jumping my D80 and not my D200 but if I have to I can, a backup camera is nice to have (of course you need different remotes though). ciel bleu, Saskia

We intentionally wire our nikon remotes that way, I love it and the battery drain isn't that bad - my D70s could take a couple hundred freefall shots a day for a week without showing less than a full battery. The only shots I sometimes miss are when I move my head too fast sometimes during exit and when the tandem is opening and already getting very small and I move my head around to follow. This only happens once in 10-20 jumps or so, otherwise the AF and lighting is great, even straight against the sun and other difficult situations. This is something my Canon D30 and 300D couldn't do, always had to put canon cameras on spot metering (which the 300d didn't have, grrr) but then, nikon has always had better matrix light metering. The AF depends on the camera as well as the lens, if you use a crappy kit lens you can forget about doing this without getting a lot more out of focus pics. ciel bleu, Saskia

I jump my D80 front-mounted: http://www.paracentrumteuge.nl/images/stories/nieuwspagina/highres/_dsc7403.jpg A friend of mine has his D70s top-mounted: http://www.paracentrumteuge.nl/component/option,com_zoom/Itemid,489/page,view/catid,42/PageNo,1/key,29/hit,1/ Another friend with a front-mounted D200/D300: http://www.paracentrumteuge.nl/component/option,com_zoom/Itemid,489/page,view/catid,41/PageNo,1/key,59/hit,1/ Nikons are great cameras to jump, stay away from the D40(x) and D60 though. D70s (not D70) and D80 are the best cameras to jump IMO, if you want to shell out more cash and have no problem with the weight, D200 and D300 are great too. Most people on my DZ slice open the remote for D70s/D80 and glue it back together at an 90o angle. The D200/D300 remotes already are at 90o. The D50/D70/D70s/D80 are (also) jumpable with a modified IR remote but that is somewhat of a hassle, wouldn't recommend it. ciel bleu, Saskia

Of course you can turn it off in the menu, it just doesn't help much since the optics can still "bounce around". ciel bleu, Saskia
-
Now if only you had mentioned what file type it is now If it is a .vob, try copying it to your harddrive, rename it to .mpg and import that into premiere. ciel bleu, Saskia
-
That's the whole problem, you can turn off the stabilisation of the lower end models since it's electronical but not those of (some of) the higher end models since it's optical. ciel bleu, Saskia

True, and the part about flight planning was the only thing I agreed with in the atmonauti thread.... Some of the atmo flyers we had on our DZ could benefit from a first flight course in that respect I spent quite a lot of time in my FFC on this subject, and here I think is where some low-jump-number students are sorely lacking awareness, can't do much about that in a classroom you get that mostly by experience. Not saying it's just the low jump numbers, I flew with a wingsuiter once with a few thousand jumps total that flew a 360 for a "pattern" as base and when asked why, replied, "Did I?" So far, people with reasonable CRW (piloting) experience seem to be the best at navigating ciel bleu, Saskia
