Only buy the HC9 if you do not plan on freeflying with it I'd stick with the HC5 which is still a current model. ciel bleu, Saskia

New Zealand parachutist gets line twists shocker!

I vote for 2 knives too, one left one right and one low one high. Besides, you may very well drop the first knife when you need it and get decent knives, not the orange crappy ones, those'll do you no good should you need 'em. The square1 knives are pretty good and not that expensive. ciel bleu, Saskia

You really use the raynox hd5050 for tandems? I've got the lens but it isn't wide enough by far for me so I switched to the hd3030 which is still not that wide, on a cx6/hc5. ciel bleu, Saskia

Anyway At All To Go Skydiving Under 16
dragon2 replied to showithers's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
In The Netherlands we have no minimum age for tandems, you just have to fit the harness ciel bleu, Saskia -
Nah they're for a flyer. Not sure I should use commercial designs though. I guess I need someone who can draw lol ciel bleu, Saskia

I need some clipart, preferably silhouettes, of various skydiving disciplines. Anyone know of any that I can use? Looking for FS4, CRW (2 and/or 4), freefly, accuracy, maybe swoop and freestyle too. ciel bleu, Saskia

Yeah go for it, it's worth 2 times as much to a skydiver ciel bleu, Saskia

Helmet camera/video configuration advice
dragon2 replied to moreton's topic in Photography and Video
The cx6/7 is too wide to sidemount as are most if not all current cameras. Most professional cameraflyers have a flattop-pro or flattop-narrow type camera helmet, there's a reason for that I love my flapttop-narrow type helmet, one photo camera upside down on front, one videocamera up top. A flattop pro will give you room for 2 videocameras or flash and stuff which can come in handy but I don't like flying such a big helmet for wingsuiting so i love mine. ciel bleu, Saskia -
You want a raynox hd model, probably a .3 (raynox hd3030 or similar number) there are a few other suitable lenses but these are great and not that expensive. Don't use a regular lens that's a shame. ciel bleu, Saskia
-
Tip: usually you want to stay away from the really high f-stops, as the lens gets worse quality-wise at it's highest f-stop and a few stops before that. Of course in some cases you really need the depth of field these f-stops provide, but most lenses are at their best at somewhere in the middle of it's range, so generally speaking for a lens that can go from f2.8 to f16, it performs best at f8 or so. ciel bleu, Saskia

Hmmm haven't got any favorite general photography books, almost any general book will do. For working with photos in photoshop, Photoshop CS3 Book for Digital Photographers by Scott Kelby is absolutely great, I also have a few favorite macro photography books but not much in that is applicable to skydiving Hmmm seems my website has developed some bugs on its own, got to fix that... ciel bleu, Saskia

If you set the quality to RAW or RAW + Jpeg it should show less pictures I actually don't like the big cards much in that respect, my D80 has a 8gig card it always says 1.1k pics, so can't tell straightaway after a tandem vid how much pics I shot it's still on 1.1k after landing... ciel bleu, Saskia

I got at least 2 feet of photography books in my closet here and check out my website for a couple thousand landing pics, starting in 2001 and getting better over time lol and for videos on swoop competitions and stuff over the years. The best part of shooting landing video is that you can use this video for debriefing so you make yourself very useful at the DZ, the pics you could sell to the jumpers if you want and save up for your next camera lol ciel bleu, Saskia
-
Yes, actually I did. My DZ keeps an eye in things like that. Started at 350 jumps total with 80 video jumps filming CRW, after only 15 crw jumps or so but that's all you need really, for filming. After that, wingsuit, after 75 or so wingsuit jumps I first strapped on my camera, then, formation skydiving, this is when I added stills to my helmet, after 2 years of filming FS and the occasional student jumper, I was allowed to film tandems. Shooting video is almost all I do, I don't even own a helmet without camera anymore. Mostly my DZ keeps an eye on things, you are only allowed to jump camera after 200 freefall relative jumps + B license here, so most have 300 jumps or more total when they start. ciel bleu, Saskia

I jump my hc5 topmount, imo the only position it should be jumped in.... It's quite wide, the pc109 is one of the least wide, slight difference there also for hdv quality you want a big ass lens (raynox hd3030), another hazard when jumping a sidemount ciel bleu, Saskia

Mods? Can we make this a sticky? Please? "Tips on buying your first rig" ciel bleu, Saskia

I'd concur. Ditto Read all the manuals, go read a photography book or two, shoot a couple thousand landings (video/stills), this will all help you loads. ciel bleu, Saskia

Too lazy to post links right now, but be sure to look up the thread about all the little things that can go wrong About learning to fly vid, your best bet is first to get good at the discipline you want to film (belly, freefly, crw, wingsuit, ...) so you can be where you want to be without having to think about it and are ready for an extra challenge, when you get to that stage (and if anyone does by 200 jumps I'd find that hard to believe.... more jumps = better and especially safer) go ask an experienced video flyer at your dz for help, preferally one why flies the same discipline as you. ciel bleu, Saskia

If you define a student as someone with less than 25 jumps, our national rules say the following: size 170 sqft min. wingload max 1.1 acceptable canopies: Performance Designs: Navigator, PD F111 serie, Sabre * AeroDyne-int: Solo Parachutes de France: Prima, Drakkar, Turbo Precision: Voyager student, Raven, Super Raven, Falcon PISA: Skymaster Paratec: Balance Flight Concepts: Maverick, Fury, Firelite, Cricket, Startrac, Sharpshuter, Raider, Maverone, Clipper, Manta, Manta ZP, Cruislite NAA: Eagle 7 Icarus: Student ZP7 Chute Shop: Zepo Student Performance Variables: Spark Student Hybride ciel bleu, Saskia

Aerodyne Service Bulletin relocating ADD cutters
dragon2 replied to riggerrob's topic in Gear and Rigging
It says you cannot use the vigil cutter with plastic insert anymore after moving the cutter location because it may get damaged, the cutter needs to be exchanched for a fully metal one. ciel bleu, Saskia -
There's been a thread or two here about an earlier version of the hero cam. ciel bleu, Saskia
