Camera not wanting to fire in freefall, help!
dragon2 replied to everymansaved's topic in Photography and Video
Because in freefall there's a lot of pressure on the remote plug, I have busted a remote myself on exit (bent the plug) and now it usually works but sometimes it refuses to auto-focus and gets stuck on the focus it had while still in the plane, ie a foot or so way too close. Anyway it's the cheapest option to try first and it may very well cause this, it's way cheaper to change the remote than having to have the camera's remote port or whatever's broken fixed that would probably mean buying a new camera for skydiving. ciel bleu, Saskia -
Hmm have to look that one up in the manual I figured out these settings a loooong time ago and they work, must say I'm not entirely sure why I turn it on when a WA is attached although it certainly doesn't hurt ciel bleu, Saskia

With optical it doesn;t matter much if you turn it on or off as it can still bounce around. With EIS I still turn it off as I can see a (small) difference in freefall, it saves on batteries and I mostly see it on openings, even with EIS off a hard-ish opening will seem like a "wave" sometimes but with EIS on it was very noticeable all the time. YMMV. ciel bleu, Saskia

Yeah, although you definately want to turn off anti-shake on that camera. ciel bleu, Saskia

Camera not wanting to fire in freefall, help!
dragon2 replied to everymansaved's topic in Photography and Video
Hopefully it's just your remote that's busted. Otherwise, well, there's a reason almost all photographers jump either canon or nikon, they tend to hold up, and also you could exchange remotes, lenses, batteries easier of course. I'd try a new remote. ciel bleu, Saskia -
I jump mine with focus to infinity (you have to re-set manual focus everyday with this camera), wideangle adapter setting on, anti-shake off. I record in HDV (on regular sony tapes) and output 16:9 DV to my PC for editing. Sometimes I turn on the viewfinder grid. Auto turn-off is set to 5 mins. Sometimes on the ground I use the slow-mo smooth recording feature but basically these are all the settings I use/need. ciel bleu, Saskia

Look up some crw (cf) video on skydivemovies.com. check this video for some examples of how NOT to do clear and pulls : http://www.paracentrumteuge.nl/component/option,com_weblinks/task,view/catid,56/id,108/ http://www.paracentrumteuge.nl/component/option,com_weblinks/task,view/catid,56/id,107/ (after 2 minutes) (all beginner skydivers + their boogie coaches) ciel bleu, Saskia

Flat Top Narrow & HC5 attachment ways?
dragon2 replied to Sergey-san's topic in Photography and Video
I can't quite make it out, but in the second shot, under your left hand, what does that sign say? what do you think it says ciel bleu, Saskia -
Meh, using them is ok. It's the LANDING them part that was my problem ciel bleu, Saskia

Flat Top Narrow & HC5 attachment ways?
dragon2 replied to Sergey-san's topic in Photography and Video
I have a HC5 in a box on a manfrotto (bogen) quickrelease, on a FTN-type helmet. My box is made by Tonfly. I like the FTN it does everything I want - topmount video and frontmount stills. I need a new helmet next season and I'll be getting a FTP, because I'd like to experiment with vertical stills and can then mount 2 cameras for competitions. But I'll keep the FTN around for wingsuiting etc. http://www.paracentrumteuge.nl/component/option,com_zoom/Itemid,489/page,view/catid,46/PageNo,2/key,159/hit,1/ http://www.paracentrumteuge.nl/component/option,com_zoom/Itemid,489/page,view/catid,50/PageNo,1/key,81/hit,1/ ciel bleu, Saskia -
I think the vengeance also falls in the "fun to fly PLUS fun to swoop" category, but I've never flown a katana so can't compare. ciel bleu, Saskia

Quality depends on the projector and on the output possibilities your laptop has. If you connect to the beamer using VGA or DVI port and the beamer has a nigh resolution it'll be much better than using s-video to a low-res beamer. The higher resolution the better, also the more light (lumen) thebeamer has the better, and use a high-quality conection between laptop and beamer and you're all set. ciel bleu, Saskia

BTW are you sure you want to jump the D200? It's a lot of camera, I've been jumping mine now for a few weeks and got the muscle aches to prove it I'll be going back to jumping my D80 soon hopefully, much better! ciel bleu, Saskia

Laszlo makes them, did you search this forum? http://www.dropzone.com/cgi-bin/forum/gforum.cgi?username=Laszloimage; ciel bleu, Saskia

Either dump the video to a laptop/pc using firewire (any tape-based HDV or miniDV camera), or straight to a tv screen using HDMI or RGB (any HDV camera). either of these wil give you very good output not comparable to VHS, even the regular old miniDV using firewire will be much better. BTW why do you need component output? That's just VHS quality again..? I usually dump my own video to my laptop and set the file to play in a simple media player that can also do slow-mo and is real easy to "get" even for non-pc-people. Media player I like: http://www.download.com/Media-Player-Classic/3000-2139_4-10518778.html?tag=lst-9&cdlPid=10518777 ciel bleu, Saskia

Zzzzzz .... max loading on PDF canopy and reserve?
dragon2 replied to crashtested's topic in Swooping and Canopy Control
Then don't get the atom 0 get one size bigger! In fact a 170 main also sounds fairly suicidal to me at your weight and jumpnumber That aside, I'd really really re-think ordering from PdF at the moment as they're having major problems delivering - upside, you'll get your rig next season (hopefully) when you should have plenty more jumps (still a bad choice in both main and reserve IMO though). ciel bleu, Saskia -
All the HDV cameras I know freeze frame when having tape problems, this is the equivalent of blocks and stripes on a DV camera. So, I'd change the tape and run a cleaning tape that will probably fix the problem. ciel bleu, Saskia

JTVal's Horshoe Mal From Sangiro: The right clothes for the jump Actually neither of those is the story i meant, but i guess it's a more common problem than i thought ciel bleu, Saskia

I was just going through my old messages looking for something, and ran across one that made me smile: ***From: Tonto Date Sent: May 15, 2007, 5:53 AM Title: You already HAVE a backup for your alti. It's called "your eyes". You are SO unamerican! [Laugh] t ciel bleu, Saskia -
It's not just the shirt coming up and the belt, you also need to be careful with things like pocket linings that can come all the way out of your pocket and cover your hackey - I think there's a story on here somewhere involving skymonkey1 or some other very experienced jumper who had some troubles with that. Other than that I personally like jumping with a full or 2piece suit, for the various reasons listed here and I really need the drag on my legs to fly below-level with the tandems and on the hill with four way teams. Heck I almost always wear gloves too, hot or not. And talking about hot, try a birdman BLADE on a hot day But it does feel nice to feel the air on your skin sometimes I would suggest getting a more breathing suit, I like my old matter freefly pants because the wind can blow right through in freefall, built-in airco A suit like that would not be uncomfortable to fly in

You're advocating a samurai for someone with 300 jumps? Also you shouldn't be jumping in turbulence that will collapse canopies anyway, and airlocks are a pain in the $%^after a cutaway and after landing in high winds, so they're not all that great, trust me i jump a vengeance. Also since the OP wants a small rig, why advertise a canopy that packs a size bigger ciel bleu, Saskia
-
You can buy a perfectly little rig with a 135 in it. Most of the girls at my DZ (even the ones with 2000+ jumps) have a rig like that. I'm the same weight as you, I only bought a smaller rig (for a 120-110) at 950 jumps, as a hint. Even though I was allowed a 120 much sooner under our canopy rules, which now state you have to have 700 jumps to jump a 120 (another hint). Getting a rig that will last you is fine, my rig for 150-135 lasted me 950 jumps, and I only sold it because another girl needed a rig for a 150 and I could trade it for the smaller rig and some cash, is 950 jumps long enough for you? Getting a small rig makes not much sense at all, since a properly fitting rig for a 135 and say a 126 reserve would also fit you very nicely. ciel bleu, Saskia

I know there's a difference between Spanish safires and American (or South African? dunno) made safires, my 135 was Spanish, not sure about the 119 as I got it 2nd hand out of the USA. A reline for a safire here is >EUR 600 (>USD 880!!!) at the moment, crazy huh, and the lineset also arrived last week after trying to order one starting in november and getting confirmation at the PIA. Still worth it though for this canopy. ciel bleu, Saskia
