  1. Learn to fly first. Is your arch really good? Mine wasn't so I could never keep up... Later on you can add a bit of lead but mostly it's your body position that needs to be worked on now. If you have a tight suit and are arching so much you can't move anymore THEN you need some lead, or the other some more drag BTW if you do get lead later on, don't get a vest get a belt, think about where you want the weight. Start with 5lbs or so, once you get to say 15lbs it can get real uncomfy to lug that weight around, you have to land with it and you wingloading will increase significantly depending on your size canopy. ciel bleu, Saskia
  2. The screws can be hard to find here as the thread is wrong for standard screws you need camera-specific screws. I'd just buy a new manfrotto topplate if I were you, comes with the screw. ciel bleu, Saskia
  3. first few jumps: classic, mtr-1, classic 2 ciel bleu, Saskia
  4. Early this year we did an item for TV about a young skydiver trying something new in his sport, so a first wingsuit jump was shown on tv. Target audience are highschoolkids. I thought the item was quite nice, a slightly weird FFC but hey, it's different from all those tandem jumps and this time the reporter wasn't claiming to have done a wingsuit jump The camera girl had to go in the plane with us, she was scared some, and very underdressed for februari jumping so we put some more clothes and a rig and a seatbelt on her and she did fine, however I don't see much we couldn't have filmed ourselves (and who needs to clean her lens ). Anyway this is the end result here: 101 TV website same clip on skydivingmovies ciel bleu, Saskia
  5. Yeah but playing NTSC in Europe never was much of a problem, even most of our old stuff will work. It's the other way 'round that is more difficult. ciel bleu, Saskia
  6. I save my edited files on the pc untill the harddrive needs cleaning up, I keep dvd's around for at least a week. Got the tapes anyway so I can re-do a dvd if I have to, but usually you notice right away if the dvd is ok or not, did have one couple BREAK the dvd though ciel bleu, Saskia
  7. I tended to out-float my jumping buddies all the time so besides exits, not much relative work was being done. My 100th jump was my first 4way, me with 3 instructors, exit was ok, after that, I totally funneled it, all by myself ciel bleu, Saskia
  8. Sounds a lot like the old ERR99 problem to me, no? Not using an older sigma lens? Tried cleaning the contacts on the lens? Try taping up the camera so the lens cannot move at all in relation to the body. Try taping a plastic bag all round the camera. ciel bleu, Saskia
  9. Sigh.... In body is the amateur option: it's cheaper and is better than no stibilization (except of course for skydiving where stabilization can ruin your images and you can possibly ruin the camera as well). In lens is the pro-sumer and pro option: it's more expensive but it works better because it's optimized for the length of the lens and you still have a usable image in your viewfinder (try doing handheld macro work with a sensor stabilized camera - no way), and also it is the fullframe (and 35mm) option because it's not currently possible to move around a fullframe sensor. I'll stick with my Nikon thank you very much. ciel bleu, Saskia
  10. Google broken? It's common knowledge, guess why Nikon and Canon have stabilisation in the lenses and that's not even with skydiving in mind, where you definitely don't want any stabilisation at all in your stills camera. ciel bleu, Saskia
  11. Yes of course they say that, that's common knowledge they don't want to get sued or anything. If you have one, you can jump it, it's legal in most countries if not all. I just don't like them for jumping, there are way better choices IMO. Most people I know with one have switched over to neptunes now, but the suuntos were there when they needed an alti for swooping. I would not recommend them to a newer jumper at all but for a TM, swooper etc, why not. ciel bleu, Saskia
  12. Mine was the altimaster (like the vector), I jumped some other models too (more expansive ones) can't remember which ones though, and I have another brand alti watch lying around somewhere too that's way too slow to jump. If you're ok with the vector you can look up the specs of the t6 and see if it updates fast enough (not too fast though then you can't read the numbers anymore in freefall ), I think that would be the only concern, as several suunto models can be jumped. ciel bleu, Saskia
  13. AFAIK the only thing that'll make you some money is packing, with tandems coming in 2nd. Coaches don't make money (at least over here they don't), unless it's not coaching students/beginners but coaching for teams and the like, you need to be real good for that of course. Video, if you do it right it takes a whole lot of start-up money: at least 200 jumps, better is 500 or so, then paying your own jumps to practice, then getting free jumps, then maybe get paid for tandemvideos/AFF videos. But for the videos you need the suit, helmet, cameras, all the little stuff that adds up to lotsa $$$$, and probably you need 2 of everything, you probably also need a good laptop, pc or linear editing station, and very likely you will need 2 rigs. By the time you pay all of that off you'll need (want?) new toys If you want to do video, do it for the love of it not because of money, that's my recommendation That goes for coaching too. ciel bleu, Saskia
  14. I had a suunto alti for a while, didn't like it for jumping at all so sold it again. The guy I sold it too bought a neptune later on, then lost that neptune so now jumps it again. Why I don't like watches: they are generally slow to update (not made for freefalling), the numbers are too small for me to read in freefall at a glance, catch a bit of sunlight and I could hardly read it because of the glare. YMMV. I'll stick with my neptune
  15. Does that matter, since you don't WANT stabilisation on the sensor, you want it in the lenses (google for why). ciel bleu, Saskia
  16. A wingsuit and a crossfire 129 eh? Good luck with that Stick with the safire if you want to do wingsuit jumps. ciel bleu, Saskia
  17. No such canopy as a Saphire. No Spectors, Sabers, Triathalons etc neither ciel bleu, Saskia
  18. We have various swift 5 and 7 cells in CRW rigs, the "older" jumpers like them and they're cheap too. But this one was not as good as a swift 5 cell apparently. ciel bleu, Saskia
  19. I'd never heard of this reserve before either, 5 cells yes, he sorta crash-landed it in the peas Didn't even go after his own stuff ciel bleu, Saskia
  20. And this is really worrying me WTF are you jumping a canopy like that for esp. at your low jumpnumbers if you do NOT learn to fly the %^& out of it so that when (note I say when not if) you are low and suddenly have to avoid someone or something you'll not crash and burn. Stupid. ciel bleu, Saskia
  21. Think we'll get more CRW students after this weekend? We had a CF2 competition at our DZ this weekend, to prepare for the upcoming Worlds. So far, we seem to need more canopies/rigs This weekend's daily video ciel bleu, Saskia
  22. Dutch rules: 6 month repack cycle plus a 1 year yearly check. The repack can be done by a rigger or a "vouwbevoegdheidhouder" (foreign repacks are acceptable now too) but the yearly check HAS to be done by a Dutch rigger. I think you'll have to abide by the Dutch regulations if you live here but not 100% sure on that, it involves getting your rating if any transfered to the KNVvL. And it involves a few pages of canopy rules and such. If you don't have to follow our regulations you'll need to abide by your local rules, that's acceptable for visiting jumpers. But anyway you're out of luck as you do not comply with Dutch rules and you do not comply with USA rules either. I'm thinking you need a repack anyway so I'd get a yearly check signed off by a Dutch rigger. Edit: Hmm if you do have to change to KNVvL I'd be interested to know if you are allowed to continue jumping your current main as according to our rules you need 400 jumps to jump it. ciel bleu, Saskia
  23. ? What's GB2? Anyway you want 2 physical harddrives for video editing, make sure you can easily ad on later. Some prebuild systems have no brackets and no room for any either so adding a 2nd drive is a pain in the %^& sometimes. ciel bleu, Saskia
  24. I do about 180 jumps/yr, fairly steady. ciel bleu, Saskia
  25. Well they don't. Good skydiving cameras from Nikon are D70S, D80, D200, D300. BTW I'm a Nikon fan too but if someone already has Canon, ciel bleu, Saskia
