Tell me about your worst day of camera flying
mccordia replied to Peej's topic in Photography and Video
Going onto my back to film the opening, and seeing half my camera-helmet fly away from me in freefall was 'funny' JC FlyLikeBrick I'm an Athlete? -
Doesnt Felix use a springloaded pilot like you describe on his red-bull wing? JC FlyLikeBrick I'm an Athlete?

As I sayd earlyer, I dont have any base-experience to compare it with, but I never really got the 'falling and falling' sensation you described from the chopper. I've done 10 or so wingsuit jumps from a hovering chopper (6 seat bell-ranger and some 4 seater of which I dont know the type) and in nearly all it was flying pretty quick after exit, and the wings seemed to inflate as soon as I started falling.. I have some footage from the Herc Boogie of a 5 way we launched of the chopper (2 of the jumpers with smoke) and the smoke trails seem to show all flyers taking of pretty quick, without any noticable far 'drop' after exit.. If you watch this video, at about 1 minute, there is a 3 way exit (Tristan, Jlo and me) from a hovering chopper. After the exit seen from the inside, I cut to a shot of my huge nose. That cut is about half a second after exit, and you can see the wings fully inflated almost directly after exit, and the suit starts flying forward pretty quick after that. Tristan did the same exit and just fell/flew right into his slot behind me.. But maybe there is a difference in the power of choppers and the amount of downwash they generate while hovering...? I dont have any base-experience, but seeing wingsuiters exiting with smoke from a chopper, there doest seem to be any noticable difference from what I've seen in BASE flights? Aside from a slight downdraft underneath the chopper the first bit, what makes it any different then an exit of a cliff? I'm really curious about that one... JC FlyLikeBrick I'm an Athlete?

Skyflying, Wingsuits in Motion by Scott Campos

Only rael men write witout a spell-tjecker hah! Spell-tjecking is for poeple ho are afraid to life live on the egde! Love the book scott JC FlyLikeBrick I'm an Athlete? -
Most efficient would be to have the chopper flying, so you have some forward speed to work with straight away....but it kind of takes the fun out of the chopper thing ;) If its hovering I think you can just look at base-exits for reference.. Armwings open, opening legwing a little later and hit the gas...maybe a little headlow to pick up speed and then fly it home I have a dozen or so WS-chopper jumps, but I think James (or any other experienced ws base-flyers) would probably have the best tips and tricks when it comes to 'dead air' exits... Anyone...anyone...Bueller? Bueller..

I've posted a new video from Empuria. This also includes the non-wingsuit stuff (trying to keep up with some regular freefall skills here and there) There is some other wingsuit footage in there (though little) like Lee flying a black MTR3, and Edo in his Red S3...so I thought some people might like seeing it... And yeayea...I'll get back to my wingsuit soon... http://www.skydivingmovies.com/ver2/pafiledb.php?action=file&id=3385 JC FlyLikeBrick I'm an Athlete?

I've read the book, but not the article...sorry JC FlyLikeBrick I'm an Athlete? -
I knew people referred to wingsuits as nylon-crack..but I never expected people to start meeting with their dealers at abandoned gas stations... JC FlyLikeBrick I'm an Athlete?

Cool, looks like a runway with jetfighters waiting for take-off JC FlyLikeBrick I'm an Athlete?

I've also seen people fly a Classic, GTi, Matter3, S3 etc with the same flapping, even though they where perfect suits and didnt flap when others flew them. I dont know if it's the problem here, but sometimes correcting leg position, maybe pushing knees out more (stretching the wing better), or doing the opposite (so the wing can inflate better), changing your angle of attack (so your leg-inlet catches more air) ...etc can make a big difference. Maybe see if you can have someone else fly your suit a few times, and check if he/she also gets the same flapping? JC FlyLikeBrick I'm an Athlete?

Good one... Almost had a landing like that past summer Now, be a cool guy, and have those barb-wire scars tatood on your legs and arms permanently JC FlyLikeBrick I'm an Athlete?

at night, look for the bright red lights on the horizon...and then just follow the smell of everything bad you like, and you'll end up here before you know it... Or look for Holland in Southern Indiana, that's drive-able.. Just not the cool place we're talking about.. JC FlyLikeBrick I'm an Athlete?

You heard right. By evil country do you mean that place where the Dutch reside? I think Holland is mostly refered to as 'the nasty country', or (when its about me) 'that weird place' JC FlyLikeBrick I'm an Athlete? -
Sorry...couldnt resist...me bad JC FlyLikeBrick I'm an Athlete?

Holland: Teuge...quite a few regular flyers... But yell any dropzone (rotterdam/hilversum/whatever) and you'll get some people dropping by with their wings in a heartbeat... Belgium: Schaffen...a bunch or regular flyers...as well as 'some dutchies' dropping by more and more often *this sunday, any takers??* JC FlyLikeBrick I'm an Athlete?

Think it would be a nice beginner suit for that one-handed guy who posted a while back as well. No grippers to hold, and no zippers to undo..? JC FlyLikeBrick I'm an Athlete?

I don't think any 'mere skydivers' where putting basers down... I think it's just a few people who are way too eager to put on a 'see how big my willy is' contest... check the base forum, and you'll see that the ego's that are clashing in here are there as well. different people, different subjects...but the same egos...as well as the same people that love what they do, and cuddle together and spread the love... yelling fuck and saying ws-skydiver x can beat ws-base means nothing... theres nobody saying that basers or not in a completely different realm, when it comes to their planning, excecution, extra danger, balls or pushing the envelope style flying... but what started as a simple 'flocking spawns different wingsuit designs, more flocking oriented, less max-flight oriented' thing from yuri (something you see, with suits for max flight, intermediate flight, earobatics etc) got ripped appart into 'basers are flying more efficient' by some people feeling the need to prove something...(re: ego?) while there's plenty of people in skydiving that do nothing else but fly long solos, and outfly everyone who tries to get near them. Not everyone is a 'holding hands' type of person... There might not be a piece of rock 10 meters below them, a ledge to clear, and their life may not depend on their flying.. But saying that because of that, a skydiving wingsuiter doing 200 times more flight-time then a base-wingsuiter could never match the base-wingsuiter in terms of performance is quite short-sighted...(and yes, I know there's people doing both) I'm not saying that the best wingsuit flyer is NOT a baser..or that there is a skydiving wingsuit flyer who flies better then a baser.. But unless we start hooking EVERY flyer on the planet up to a GPS, put them in the same suit, and have them fly the same couple of thousand feet and then take that collected data and compare...then there is NO WAY OF KNOWING who flies better... And trying to put base into the damnation corner is also a big load sh*t, as there isnt one SINGLE wingsuiter here on this forum, who is not getting the biggest, fattest, wet, dripping, shiny hard-on as he watches those weflyudontmove guys track like maniacs, or see loic dodging trees...and also no doubt those guys could outfly 99% of the people here...be it basers or skydivers... but I also have no doubt, that had loic only been flying his suit from an airplane...he would have become the same amazing flying he is now 'performance-wise' (in terms of flying his suit to the max) and theres a million things to say...basers get more feedback from the ground/passing rocks...'skydivers' get more airtime to practice...some people do both.... but you simply do not KNOW who the best 'max performance' flyer is....and hopefully wil never now, as that person may be a camera-less flyer (base? skydive) without the desire to be in every video you post online... Finaly glad a conversation didnt turn into a brand-pissing-contest..and some a-hole has to turn it into a base/skydive contest...get a life... JC FlyLikeBrick I'm an Athlete?

I heard some people talk about flying to neigbouring countries and taking a trainride into the evillll country JC FlyLikeBrick I'm an Athlete? -
I've seen the suit in Empuria. Looked really nice in terms of construction. It looks quite different from a prodigy up close. Especialy the arm 'wings'. No grippers, just inflating sleeves. I would put it somewhere 'in between' a trackingsuit and prodigy in terms of design... JC FlyLikeBrick I'm an Athlete?

has the military got going with the wingsuit thing yet?
