Vengeance vs. Velocity - Need info from the field!
jumperconway replied to mfrese's topic in Swooping and Canopy Control
and all my friends who have gone from the Stiletto to the Velo have gotten psyched out a little by the lighter riser pressure and longer pullout arc. I think that you will be surprised at how much heavier the front riser pressure is than a Stiletto! From my limited number of jumps on a Stiletto, it was butter compared to my Crossfire1. The Velo front pressure seems double that of any of my Xaos's 21/27,but the rears are lighter. -
I believe that if the S&TA go's to manifest and tells them soandso isn't allowed to manifest without my permission, he would/could only be overruled by the DZO. I don't think it would be a BSR, just looking out for the individual and the DZ.

Pop, When did you move to Cali?

Advanced SPAM filtering for Dropzone.com Mail
jumperconway replied to sangiro's topic in The Bonfire
HH, Just by using the basic Spam filter, all email traffic stopped. I guess that means everything I was getting was Hi Prob. Spam? -
QuoteIf you are a young jumper with little experience in the sport and no instructional ratings, then you have no idea what you are talking about when you start comparing different training methods and "which is best." Please refrain from stating so until you have that experience. Aw come on Chuck, he's got 14 jumps!

Bill, Maybe it's time to back it down a notch to maybe 330, get the record and build up from there. Just a thought. Anyway hoping for better weather for you guys and a completion! Fingers crossed, Conway

Piercing Fans/freaks on TV Ripleys Tonight?
jumperconway replied to jumperconway's topic in The Bonfire
So this freak gets his back pierced to be on Ripleys and flies under a helicopter over the Hollywood sign in the land of fruits and nuts! Coments on the idiocy of the stunt or was this really cool? Personally. I go for the STUNT FOR CASH MODE! -
Six retired Floridians were playing poker in the condo clubhouse when Meyerwitz loses $500 on a single hand, clutches his chest and drops dead at the table. Showing respect for their fallen comrade, the other five continue playing standing up. Finkelstein looks around and asks, "So, who's gonna' tell his wife?" They draw straws. Goldberg picks the short one. They tell him to be discreet, be gentle, don't make a bad situation any worse. "Discreet? I'm the most discreet person you'll ever meet. Discretion is my middle name, leave it to me." Goldberg goes over to the Meyerwitz apartment, knocks on the door. The wife answers and asks what he wants. Goldberg declares : "Your husband just lost $500, and is afraid to come home." "Tell him to drop dead!" says the wife. "I'll go tell him." says Goldberg.

As of now an S&TA may prohibit someone from jumping at a dropzone and may not let them jump a certain size canopy. That power is at the discretion of the S&TA now. Why waste time, money and effort on imposing new legal documents that people will find a way to go around S&TA's would still be able to ground anyone, this just gives some backbone to their discussion to newer jumpers with recommendations that they can prove to the S&TA satisfaction that they have the skills to get around it.

Rig ??? Should I buy new or used?
jumperconway replied to jumpinfarmer's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
I bought a used rig on my 12th jump. Ordered new after 70 something. Dowsized from a 170 sized rig to a 150 max Javelin then downsized canopies in that Jav 150/135/129/99. The Jav gives you the ability to downsize considerably without changing containers but the 143R with 99 Crossfire looked like a humpback whale! So I've gone back to buying used conainers twice since then. I do think for a first rig, because of the adjustability in the main packing trey that a used Javelin and used canopy would be a good choice. Once you're at a canopy size that you will probably never downsize, then buy custom/new. It will last a long time. Good luck, hope that helps, Conway -
Sorry to hear about tht, Paige. Be strong and this too shall pass. {{{{{{VIBES}}}}}}

Don't know for sure how this relates but we have a shop that repairs trenchers and loaders for construction. If our shop were to burn down and a customers machine was lost or damaged their insurance would be first responsible but if they had no insurance that our insurance would cover it. You are leaving a piece of equipment for them to service for pay, I would think it would be similar. However if you say left your rig on the rack in the packing area and it burned, I believe it would be all your responsibility. So if you had no homeowners/renters insurance you're SOL.

Agreed and I believe well thought out. I also believe that since many student programs are coached all the way through the A license, that way more emphasis should be put on canopy control while under direct supervision of an instructor.

In tv terms, isn't the target prime-time audience usually the 18-34 crowd? If it's true, then they seem to have hit their mark. I would only agree to that if it was the 18-26 yr. old crowd. I don't know of anyone older than that that is in to that c%#@! I think that it was a very poor representation of America! This is an event seen world wide and even though I missed the bullshit that's on the internet today, I'm embarrassed that it was what it was! I agree with Quade about the Osmond's but thought that last year was much more appealing to the GENERAL buying public! Granted, I live in H-Town and had to deal with a bizzillion people in town for it, but for all our city did to facilitate the event (which I took no part in)promoting the final product, outside the actual game. I along with most of the Houstonia'ns that I know were VERY dissappointed. Then again, I think that the target audience, from my perception would be the young (15-30) yr. old, black male crotch grabin' no money spending public. Why spend millions on a crowd that can't even purchase your product or do they just spend all their disposable $ on your clothing and gang related articles for nothing? Maybe that's where the NFL makes their money, not from the people that fill the seats, but from the crap that they sell outside! Just a guess that the people that spent thousands of dollars for the tickets and travel to get to the BIG GAME that thought the H/T show was garbage are not the target audience!
-
Personally, I was very dissappointed with the half-time show. I'm not sure what the target audience was, but I have yet to hear a customer that was impressed! Granted, I'm a newer skydiver, with basicaly 3 1/2 years back into the sport and older, 45. I was really unimpressed with what I saw last night! Curious as to what I missed? Start the flames and remember what I'm talking about is not at the DZ but totally public opinion! Blues, Conway

I guess that was a smuch for the outside media and such. The flew right over me on the way home from Spaceland. They appeared to be flying in formation a big loop pattern because I was way south of Reliant Stadium.

Keep it long. Like the color but maybe you could do some highlights for the summer. Gotta agree with this one or leave out the highlights, Hottie!
