    ATC asleep!

I don't know how much time you've spend in eastern Canada but a drunk Newfie's not exactly news-worthy material up there I got nuthin
  2. Are you looking to film fun jumps from the outside or shoot POV? What kind of camera helmet do you have/are planning to buy? I got nuthin
  3. As long as we're venting, how about people who, even after hundreds or thousands of jumps, get up into the plane and all of a sudden are memorized and unable to complete the simple task of sitting the fuck down and putting a seatbelt on so we can go skydiving! 'Why don't I just stand here with a dumb look on my face while I decide if I wanna sit on the left side or the right side...This is hard with all those people screaming behind me.' I got nuthin
  4. Mouser's got some decent plugs but I find you've got to get pretty creative with their search engine sometimes to find what you're looking for. They also have some molded cables with a 2.5mm stereo plug on one end and bare leads on the other. If I were building a switch I might go that route in order to have a molded, sealed connection at the camera where it's going to be getting handled on a semi-regular basis. I got nuthin
  5. Dude don't get your panties in a bunch just b/c somebody in The Bonfire doesn't take your request seriously. It's The Bonfire! I got nuthin
  6. It's fucking wet And dude aren't you from Alberta? You're scale is missing 'Too fucking cold' (as in below -25C). I got nuthin
  7. If you opt to do the bunkhouse or team room and want a more private restroom and/or like to work out, there's a fitness center on the DZ. It's a bit of a walk from the bunkhouse but there's some workout equipment and a private shower in there. They take a deposit for the key and charge something very reasonable for use of the facilities (I can't remember if it's $1 or $2/day). That's the option I've always gone with b/c it's right beside the tent area. I got nuthin
  8. Hey I think I've stayed in that hotel! I got nuthin
  9. For some reason I'm picturing you flying around in the pattern and playing with your visor trying to get the perfect shot of your canopy, and that scares me. But I'm sure you'd never do anything like that, and even if you did the risks of flying into somebody are manageable. I got nuthin
  10. I just purchased a subscription to BSM. If the mag is half as entertaining as this thread than it's money well spent. I'm anti-slyride but the over-reactions coming from this thread are ridiculous. They sent a few promo items to a boogie for fun jumpers. It's not like they're in bed with SR. I got nuthin
  11. Looks like some kick-ass footage! I got nuthin
  12. I use my Dell netbook for showing video at the DZ, but it's a pretty weak machine. If I shoot in HD on my CX100 then the playback is ridiculously choppy on VLC. Normally I shoot in SD and with that the playback is fine. It can barely handle playback of video from my GoPro. I just use the netbook for playback, I do all editing at home on my Mac. The netbook is super-portable and I can dump videos over to it and then people can watch their skydives at their leisure. My netbook is a few years old and I'm sure the more modern ones are better, but I imagine they still don't have very much horsepower. I got nuthin
  13. I spent a weekend in La Plata just outside of BA. They had Cessnas, cold beer and great people. Since then there's another DZ in the BA area that's opened up. I've never been there but a friend of mine says the vibe is great. I'm going to PM you his email address so you can get in touch. Blue Skies! I got nuthin
  14. Last minute decision to go and I just bought my plane ticket. I'm flying into PHX on the 28th and leaving on the 3rd. That's all I know so far. Hey Phil how's about the 3rd annual IKR? I got nuthin
  15. If you're thinking of getting some jumps in, you can't go wrong with Skydive Dallas. I got nuthin
  16. http://www.stickergiant.com/custom_stickers/pages/custom-stickers.php These guys aren't that expensive. I got nuthin
  17. Great place with great people. As was said I think they like a call-ahead for fly-ins. How long are you planning on sticking around for? The Halloween party Saturday night will be a rockin. I got nuthin
  18. Yes, they are extremely unnatural I got nuthin
  19. I was a heavy (up to 2 packs a day at the end) smoker for 14 years. Last December I got a sinus infection that ruined my Christmas boogie at Skydive Arizona and that was the last straw. I haven't had a smoke since January 1 and I'm feeling so much better, plus I've started dating an amazing woman who wouldn't be with me if I was still a smoker. If the E-cig works for you then go big, but IMO any form of quitting other than cold turkey is just prolonging the 'difficult' phase of the process. By puffing on an E-cig or popping a Wellbutrin or putting on a nicotine patch, you're essentially telling yourself that in stopping smoking you're giving something up and you need to replace it with the patch or the pill or the E-cig. In the case of the patch or the E-cig, you're keeping yourself addicted to the drug that you're trying to quit, which is pretty ridiculous. If you want to quit smoking then just quit. The actual physical affects of nicotine withdrawal only last a couple of days and really aren't that bad. About 1.5 years ago I made a post here about quitting using the gum (an attempt that lasted about 3 weeks I believe) and a DZ.commer sent me a PM recommending a book called 'The Easy Way to Quit Smoking' by Allen Carr. I bought it as soon as I got back from the Christmas boogie and finished it in a day, haven't smoked since and I really don't want to. But we're all different and if the E-cig is working for you then that's the important thing. I got nuthin
  20. Stumbled across this on the Interwebs and immediately thought of this thread: http://img.moonbuggy.org/barrel-roll/
  21. Two main flaws with your idea: -It'd cover up the cool stickers on my camera helmet -It goes against my 'dudes shouldn't wear Spandex' philosophy. Seriously, I bet the Spandex would create quite a bit of drag and make the helmet a lot harder to fly. While the spandex would probably allow any 'light' strikes from lines or risers to bounce off, it wouldn't eliminate the chance of a line getting caught under the corner of your camera/box. Also, say you take the spandex off to wash it one weekend, now you've got a helmet with additional snag hazards from the snaps. I think your idea would create more problems than it would solve. Mounting your cameras in a manner to minimize snag points, and being aware of what's on your head at pull time will go further than trying to 'bubble-wrap' your camera setup. *edited b/c I'm not a stronng speeler. 22. One thing that hasn't been mentioned here yet is that Carbon Fiber is extremely conductive. When you start drilling/cutting it, you're going to end up with lots of little bits of CF and CF powder. If this gets into your camera or any other electronics it's got the potential to seriously F%*K it up. Make sure to do all the drilling away from electronics and thoroughly clean the helmet before bringing your camera close. When I drilled my helmet I sealed the holes with some clear nail polish to be on the safe side. Out of curiosity I checked the resistance through my helmet with a multimeter before I sealed the holes. I was surprised to see just how conductive it was, and I saw less than 20 ohms measuring between holes that were drilled over 10" apart. I got nuthin
