When regular skydiving just doesn't do it for you...
lippy replied to skydiverkeith's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
He did have the ability to cutaway and deploy his reserve in the event of a mal...It was pretty thoroughly planned and practiced before any jumps were made. A few years ago I met Greg Gasson at Eloy and he was happy to talk about it. Real nice guy. I got nuthin -
Is that a tongue-in-cheek shot at Bill because he jumps a Reflex? I've got almost 1000 jumps on mine and love it. I wish they still made the things. I got nuthin

I hear a lot of people spreading this type of talk about SDSM, but I've never seen it. I have seen the DZM working his ass off to keep fun jumpers in the air on a busy tandem day. SDSM cranks out a lot of tandems, and I'm sure that's a big part of why they've got such a kick-ass facility...But anybody saying that they're nothing but a tandem factory is either mis-informed or is bitter and trying to spread shit about the place. Beach Jumps in Texas; Upcoming Dates
lippy replied to SpectreDriver's topic in Events & Places to Jump
Not only competing with Deadman in Sept, but the 20-22 of Aug is a TSL meet at Spaceland AND Larry Henderson's 36-ways in Dallas. I'm really hoping to make it down there to jump with you guys one of these days. Hope you get some good turnouts -

Just hit up the surplus store...that place would be great to kill an afternoon in, too bad I had to get back to the office. I picked up one of these http://www.omahas.com/product_info.php?cPath=2_27&products_id=2309 and think it'll do the trick nicely. Anybody wanna buy a slightly used, slightly destroyed Brand-X bag? Seeing as that place is 10 minutes from home, I might drive by & check it out! Cheers

I picked up a Brand X gear bag back in December and I'm pretty disappointed with it. I don't think I've been too hard on it...I keep my rig, 2-3 jumpsuits and a logbook in there, as well as a few little odds and ends. My helmet back is usually clipped onto the side of my gear bag and I transport my weight belt separately. A few months ago the top seam of the main compartment separated and that compartment started falling apart. I dropped it with the rigger and he reinforced that seam. A couple months later the bottom of the bag started to fall apart. Another trip to the rigger and another $30 and it was all back together. Last Sunday as I was leaving the DZ, the other side of the top of the main compartment fell apart completely. I'm gonna junk this thing and get one from Para Gear that's not made in China. Anybody else have a similar experience with Brand X? I got nuthin

I pulled these screen shots from a 4-way video I shot June 19. They launched a meeker and while setting up in the door, the Outside Center's jumpsuit sleeve got caught on the GO PRO mount (camera was not installed) mounted on the Inside Center's helmet. Very shortly after exit they were able to get un-hooked and went on to have a pretty bad-ass skydive. You can see in the pictures and the jumpers will tell you that it was stuck on there pretty good, and their blood got pumping for a few seconds while getting unhooked. On the ground we looked at the video and saw exactly what had happened. For the rest of the day (and I think all jumps since then) she's been jumping with gaffer's tape covering the sharp edges of the mount. Both Centers here are very current, heads-up jumpers who have been jumping and competing for years. I asked the IC's permission to post this here and she was happy to share it for educational purposes. I got nuthin

Fair enough on editing the title. The particular model of camera is irrelevant. I got nuthin

Saw this guy at the DZ on the weekend. I'd never seen him before, but I'm relatively recently returning to this dropzone after a layoff so I don't know all of the faces just yet. He looked to me like a low-timer, but I didn't have a chance to talk to him. He was sitting beside the door of the Otter doing a hop-n-pop. After we passed 1500' and everybody got seat belts off and got the door opened, this guy starts messing with the GO-PRO on his helmet. The pilot turns on the red light (normally a signal to open the door but in this case it was already open) and dude is playing with his camera and doesn't notice. A few people started trying to get his attention without success. The green light came on and the shouts got a little louder. Dude finally looked up from his helmet, saw the green light was on, slapped on his helmet and jumped out. No checking of handles, no checking the spot, no nothing. I was planning on finding the guy on the ground and having a friendly chat with him about the dangers of being distracted up until the second that you leave the plane and if video of a hop-n-pop was worth it, but I couldn't find him. Constructing a Door step for a Cessna 206?

Vigil restrictions on door openings?
lippy replied to billvon's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
On all aircraft? On all Vigil modes? Isn't there some rule about seatbelts and 1000 feet? Wouldn't the door have to open AFTER everyone gets their seatbelts off? So like, 1000 feet, then seatbelts, then doors? The door doesnt usually fully open till 1000-1500 feet, but someone generally sticks their foot under the door to let a little air in until then. Different DZ's have different rules. I know a few Otter DZ's where it's not allowed for somebody to 'prop' the door open with their foot before everybody removes seatbelts and it's completely opened. As of this season, Skydive Dallas requires seatbelts on and helmets worn/secured until 1500'. As far as I know this rule has nothing to do with recent Vigil fires and more to do with the practicality of getting out of the plane if the shit hits the fan at 1100 ft, but that's another story altogether. Might be something worth considering at other DZ's, for either of the two reasons mentioned above. I got nuthin -
Skydiving with allergies/sinuses?
lippy replied to npgraphicdesign's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
If you have sinus congestion I wouldn't advise jumping. I'm getting back in the air tomorrow after sitting down for two weekends (and missing an awesome event on one of them!) due to jumping with sinus congestion and rupturing something in my sinuses, which then became infected. It wasn't fun! If you're taking decongestant and it's keeping your head clear, you may be fine. If you're obviously congested on the ground, or if you do a jump and feel any kind of pressure or pain, it's probably best to sit down for the weekend and recover before you make things worse. Just my $.02 I got nuthin -

you know your a canadian skydiver when....
lippy replied to FlyingRedneck's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
Arguing with a French Canadian is just a bad idea in general...They always try to drag you down to their level, and their level always smells like cheese and BO I got nuthin -
Now we know why they are not allowed to drive . . .
lippy replied to turtlespeed's topic in The Bonfire
I was looking through the responses below and saw this: No doubt this was a tragic accident and I feel sorry for the family of the girl, but calling for a full body suit for go-karting??? That's pretty frick'n retarded if you ask me. I worked as a track rat at an indoor track while I was in college. Quite simply if somebody was going to go racing and they had any items or clothing that would be a snag hazard, it was left in the staging area...No worries I got nuthin -

I wouldn't fuck with your sinuses. Stop jumping till you see a doc. Two weeks ago after a few jumps I started spitting up some blood. I had no sinus pain so I kept jumping for the rest of the day. Now I've got a sinus infection and the pain is annoying just here on the ground. I'm scared to get in the air. I couldn't jump last weekend and I'm planning on standing down this weekend just because I didn't want to stop jumping two weeks ago and let my head heal. If you've got that much pain, get it checked out before you do some real damage. I got nuthin

You know I live skydiving and I love skydiving, but there are two things I really don't like about our sport: 1 - People who look down their noses or think less of somebody because of the discipline they choose to practice. 2 - Those fucking CReW dogs! I got nuthin
