So how long do you let a little dog nip at your heels before you kick it? Past administrations (read Clinton's) wanted to do kick Saddam's ass too, just did not have the political will to do it... maybe they were distracted by the Chinese, or the blowjobs? K also said hey thought there were, but that intel has proved faulty... I think his investigation has shown that there was potentially a more dangerous situation... They were seeking bio weapons, but had not yet been able to get there... Saddam thought they had weapons programs, but he was being dupped by his scientists, for money... what else would they do for money, and for whom? And what about the prohibited missile programs? Was the war about oil? On some levels, sure... stability in that region is important because of oil... should we become less dependent on oil, absolutely. But for some reason the crunchies are opposed to more clean and efficient nuclear power J All that is necessary for the triumph of evil is that good men do nothing. - Edmund Burke

I'm glad I was out by the time it happened... It is embarrassing to see the guys/gals at the USAR/ANG armory wearing them... they look bad enough in the uniform, let alone wearing a beret like a frenchman... pathetic. Has any one had any OS 10.2.8 upgrade to 10.3 problems?
jdhill replied to slayer21016's topic in Photography and Video
My upgrade to 10.3 went smooth... Update to .3.1 was problematic... had to do an A&I back to .3.0... have heard about significant issues with .3.2 when it comes to external FW drives with the wrong firmware. Camera suit's........what's good, what's crap

What brought you to your list of three? Why have you ruled out others? Different folks are looking for different things... ? I use a FireFly... you may want to give them a look. J All that is necessary for the triumph of evil is that good men do nothing. - Edmund Burke -
If I remember correctly, it took a year or two after the G4 desktops for the G4 Powerbook to come out... I would expect the same with the G5... making it run cool enough for a laptop will be the trick. All that is necessary for the triumph of evil is that good men do nothing. - Edmund Burke

So, back to Q's question... what about for advertisers... not just to get another shot in the magazines (I justify it to myself that way too...), but for and advertisement? J All that is necessary for the triumph of evil is that good men do nothing. - Edmund Burke

at present, selling your pictures is not likely to do any more than pay for a few jumps, hence the discussion... doing student work (tandem, aff) is where the most money is to be had for most camera people... and even then most of your money will go back into the sport. for info on getting stuff into the magazines, start here and here... From your original post... OK... the full color ad rate, for a full page, 12 month run... in magazine A, its $1135... in magazine B its $1059... using your minimum of 2x the add rate advertisers should be paying a photographer between $2100 and $2300 (assuming that the photo is the only one in the add, and its full page)... Am I doing the math right? What do they actually pay (ball park)? J All that is necessary for the triumph of evil is that good men do nothing. - Edmund Burke

If that were the case, gear would be free, and jumps would be too... or at the very least "at cost"; so I don't buy that... I don't really expect them too... I realize it is a niche market... but most of the time, what they pay does not even cover the cost of getting the shot... Even with that said, I still like to see my pictures in print... like I said in my initial post... J All that is necessary for the triumph of evil is that good men do nothing. - Edmund Burke

So, if a gear manufacturer wanted to use a photo for a full page ad in Parachutist, they should pay the photographer at least $2760 (2 x the full page color ad rate of $1380 (845+435))... Parachutist should also be paying close to $1K for a cover... If either paid half that, I'd probably be happy with that, but neither pay even close to that... "giving back to the sport" can only carry things so far... having ones art displayed to several thousand readers can go a little ways too... but with jump prices going up as they have, getting a picture published doesn't even cover a jump anymore. Sponsorship of some sort might ease the pain... but you don't see too much of that for the guys behind the camera... Not sure how to change it... and I still dutifully send my pictures in to the magazines... J All that is necessary for the triumph of evil is that good men do nothing. - Edmund Burke

I've tried the knock-offs, and gone back to Epson... I wasted alot of ink and paper when the heads start spitting and clogging... had to clean the heads just about every time I went to print... If I've got time, I get the epson stuff from Sam's, its not much cheaper, but a few bucks is a few bucks. J All that is necessary for the triumph of evil is that good men do nothing. - Edmund Burke

Not sure about the rebel, but on the D60 they should have just left the flash off the thing... if you are close enough that it *should* work you are likely to get a nasty shadow from the lens barrel. Of course the size of the shadow depend on the size lens, but with a 20mm it ruins the picture, IMO. The 550EX is a great add to the gear bag, for jumping, or on the ground. Didn't mean to offend... most of the 82nd is "high-speed" (at least until the land, then its about 1-4kph) J All that is necessary for the triumph of evil is that good men do nothing. - Edmund Burke

Are they people in those units with an overly high opinion of themselves? Last I checked 10th, 101st, 82nd are all NOT part of the USASOC... units that are would be USASFC (SF), USACAPOC (PsyOps/Civil Aff.),USAJFKSWCS (the school), 75th Rangers, 160th SOAR, and SOSCOM... Those other units may work with/support SO units, but are just infantry divisions. All that is necessary for the triumph of evil is that good men do nothing. - Edmund Burke

I think that is a DoN, or USMC definition... to those of us with Army backgrounds, SOC would first mean Special Operations Command... unless it appeared behind a MEU unit designation... There are no special tryouts to get into the 10th Mountain... and for the 82nd or 101st its just passing Airborne or Air Assault schools... and that ain't so special. The Army does not consider these units special operations, or even special operations capable... just units with different missions and specialized ways to get to the battle. Once you get a definition of hook turn you'll have two choices... 1) live with it; 2) take your business elsewhere. My guess is the definition will cover any speed inducing turn to landing, carve, toggle, risers, whatever... it is a narrow minded approach to safety, but its his DZ... My home DZ has banned x-wind landings in the main landing area... noone (except the skybarge pilots) really likes it, but we either live with it, or go elsewhere to land (and periodically try to change the rule ... They have not, to my knowledge, every fallen under USASOC, JSOC, or USSOCOM... the 82nd and 10th are part of the 18th ABN Corps, and while special, are not a standing Special Operations Force (which would be the all encompassing title for forces of that nature) Some units, like a MEU, might be capable of special operations (and be called Special Operations Capable). A few units that were left out... 160th SOAR; 1st SO Avn Wing. All that is necessary for the triumph of evil is that good men do nothing. - Edmund Burke

I hate seeing this crap, we all know the risk.

I did not find them guilty, a jury did... You're correct, I don't have all the facts, and have at no time said they were guilty of anything except poor judgement in their legal strategy. I also, did not say that I don't take warning lables seriously, or approve of those folks that think they are just decoration... the fact remains that those people exist, and are on the plane with us every day. I also think (but have no statistical evidence) that most people would say that the warning lable means jack shit when negligence is involved, and the only way to *prove* that, is in court, either criminal or civil.
