  1. Who says we can't get enough volenteers? The last I read, all the services were meeting their recruiting and retention goals... They are not calling on the IRR in great numbers, I'm in it and they didn't take me up on my offer to go to Afganistan... and I'm in one of those "important" specialties... And if there were a problem, better pay and benifits (whicha re already needed) and better incentive programs are the answer, not a draft. 2. Just finished it... I liked it... I'm Catholic, well was raised that way, and on the rare occasion that I go to church (Christmas and Easter, generally to make the folks feel good) it is a Catholic one... I found it more interesting because I have a friend that was raised in an Opus Dei household... I did not find it threatening to my belief system at all... that is to say the church had already proven that it was and is flawed. The history of the church is filled with evidence that it altered its teachings in efforts to convert pegans... moving dates of significant events and holy days to coincide with pegan rituals... It does not change the fundimental meaning behind the church, what is right and what is wrong... to me, wether or not Jesus was Devine or just a prophet does not change that message. I picked up one of the "anti-DVC" books the other day, and it just seemed like the author was pissed off... it just doesn't really mater. 3. I don't think the prison abuse was covered up, it think the news didn't think it was news until there were pictures... The investigstion was announced to the media when it started in January... I don't know that there is not a cover up, but I don't assume there is just because we have a different story than others... there is ample reason to not believe arab reporting of the situation, or media coverage of the sceen hours after the event. The video showing a wedding only shows what it shows, not anything that was going on outside the view of the camera. 4. When the investigation was started in January, it was announced to the press... it just did not make the radar screen until the pictures came out... I call that lazy journalism, not a cover-up... the fact that a military investigation was not disclosed to the Whitehouse does not make it a cover-up either. 5. Since I'm not signing up for any more newspaper websites the link doesn't work for me... Was it a translator working for the Army, or a soldier? If it was a soldier, I stand corrected... like I said, the prison abuse was inexcusable... J All that is necessary for the triumph of evil is that good men do nothing. - Edmund Burke
  6. Nothing is unequivocal at 3AM looking, through NVGs, when weapons are being fired in one general direction. Your right, the truth is somewhere in the middle... I could have been a civilian wedding (that was violating curfew and shooting in a war zone)... It could have been an insurgent's wedding... It could have been staged to look as if we attacked a wedding party... And it might be something else... J All that is necessary for the triumph of evil is that good men do nothing. - Edmund Burke
  7. \ I don't recall any of the allegations against US troops being rape... IIRC, it was Iraqis that have been accused of doing that. The prison abuses were and are inexcusable... That dose not mean that we knowingly attacked an innocent wedding... J All that is necessary for the triumph of evil is that good men do nothing. - Edmund Burke
  8. Using that logic... I know I'm still in a war zone, there is still a curfew, but I'm going to break the curfew and fire weapons into the air... I should not expect return fire? It may have been a wedding, sure... If it was it is a great tragedy, but was still likely engaged within the ROE. It might have been staged... it might have been an insurgent's wedding... There is a cultural difference... if we take out a civilian it is more than likely a mistake... they don't give a shit about civilians... we try to respect their holy sites, the disrespect them as a matter of routine. 10. They have not named his replacement, but they also have not set his departure date... it may be as late as July... he has served in his position longer than any of his predicessors during this operation... He is also being looked at for command of Southern Command and another star... Are they switching him out due to the prison problem or becuse his tour was up... maybe a little of both, but he is far from being fired. 12. She is still responsible for the actions of her troops, regardless of who was in charge of the prison... and she is a fucking General... there are not a lot of generals in the intelligence community, and even fewer that are interogators... Further, what MI unit was put in charge? Its like the all illusive "they"... as in "they were in charge, not me..." Who is "they"? And if "they" were in charge, there would be paper on it, where's that? I would not be surprised if it goes beyond her, but she appears to bare at least some responsibility. 13. I used to watch them all the time... I got a few "jerky" openings with my camera on, which tweeked my back/neck, so I stopped... on highly loaded canopies, IMO its best to not fight through the openings, just roll with them... I've gone 360^ around with an opening, that if I had been watching I would have tried to control, and surely would have resulted in line twists. 14. When checking my POP mail, it wants me to download a file called "webmail" (no file type extension)... it started doing this yesterday... what's up? J All that is necessary for the triumph of evil is that good men do nothing. - Edmund Burke
  15. PC101 is my primary now... Still have, and can mount if needed... PC1 (use on my belly mount now), VX1000, TRV900... Going to the shop to get fixed is my TRV20... it just keeps zooming in... J All that is necessary for the triumph of evil is that good men do nothing. - Edmund Burke
  16. That's some great stuff... I had the opportunity to watch some of the video the other day... just sick! J All that is necessary for the triumph of evil is that good men do nothing. - Edmund Burke
  17. I think you are interpriting the specs correctly. I have not found the details to be a problem with the larger droplet size on the 1280. Add the larger formats available with the 1280 and it is the winner for my GP photo printer. J All that is necessary for the triumph of evil is that good men do nothing. - Edmund Burke
  18. That is strange, I have not had to do that to get good results from the 1280... I have had similar experiance from the ink cartriges. J All that is necessary for the triumph of evil is that good men do nothing. - Edmund Burke
  19. looks good, except for the fact that it does not do the larger sizes... i.e. 11x14... but if you don't need, or want that... I was thinking about picking up its little brother, the R200 ($99), just for doing CD/DVDs J All that is necessary for the triumph of evil is that good men do nothing. - Edmund Burke
  20. I just saw it... not bad... a little short... no money shot... exit, building, some inside... kinda cool seeing it on mainstream TV. J All that is necessary for the triumph of evil is that good men do nothing. - Edmund Burke

  22. I use it on every glass surface I can... it is a great cleaner too... if you are fogging inside the camera, you need to do whatever you can to avoid getting moisture inside... camera condom, tape, whatever... Also, avoid constantly taking the camera from one temp to another... i.e. from air conditioned space to hot humid outside, or in winter from warm, generally moister air inside to cool dry air outside... when you have drastic extremes, leave the camera outside as much as possible to avoid condensation. 23. Do a search for CatCrap... it works great for me in a hot and humid environment... I usually don't have too many issues in winter, but it should work then too since it is generally marketed for ski goggles. 24. Not sure how that happend... its there now... you can also see it here, and other pictures from the event
