Just a note... the 9/11 commission is not a function of the legislative branch... it is an independent commission created as part of the Intelligence Authorization Act for Fiscal Year 2003... The commissioners are not current members of Congress. J All that is necessary for the triumph of evil is that good men do nothing. - Edmund Burke

If they deployed, and there is no other damage to the car, I'd say they malfunctioned... and it should be the rental agencies expence... like say a premature cypress fire, or other premature reserve deployment due to gear malfunction... again, I would see this as the rental agencies expence... If I rented gear and had to use the reserve, I would expect to pay for the repack, and any lost parts, assuming the price of the rental was not inflated to cover such items. I would suggest that she find someone who specializes in that type of event... it is, after all, a once in a lifetime event (well, its supposed to be...) J All that is necessary for the triumph of evil is that good men do nothing. - Edmund Burke

I have, a few times... have always declined... I don't get to spend enough time at the DZ to begin with... and I would not hire a wedding videographer to shoot a tandem... why would it go the other way... its a different kind of work. I know of at least one that does... not sure exactly what they make, $4-$5 per edit or so. J All that is necessary for the triumph of evil is that good men do nothing. - Edmund Burke

I understand that proposed law includes everyone... I doubt that would pass any sort of court challenge... The problem is that any list of legal gun owners, compiled for whatever arbitrary reason, could be used to aid in confiscating weapons... A list of legal gun owners, by its nature, would not include felons, because they would not be legal gun owners, and I do not think this law prevents compiling a list of felons (and if that needs to be compiled, we are all in trouble) J All that is necessary for the triumph of evil is that good men do nothing. - Edmund Burke

I said government agency, not you personally... I think it is pretty hard to tell a private citizen they can't keep a list of whatever they want... For a government agency to compile a list, without any justifiable reason, could be construed as an infringement, as well as a violation of my right to privacy. J All that is necessary for the triumph of evil is that good men do nothing. - Edmund Burke
-
Simple question... why does any government agency need a list of legal gun owners? And the reason cannot include the counter-question of why does anyone need a gun, its my constitutional right to have one, period. And, IMO, that is BS... there are plenty of reasons one might own a handgun, other than an intent to kill. J All that is necessary for the triumph of evil is that good men do nothing. - Edmund Burke

Had congress not approved, or the funds for it, it would not exist... it is empowered by a law, passed by both houses of congress, then signed by the president, not by the president alone... both branches have to agree... checks and balances. And to say that congress approves the budget that the pres creates is not entirely a true statement either... congress plugs in all kinds of BS that the Executive branch has not asked for, or does not want... the pres can either sign it or veto it... again, both branches must agree... checks and balances J All that is necessary for the triumph of evil is that good men do nothing. - Edmund Burke
-
Thanks for a listing of the executive branch... but you miss the point... none of these agencies are or departments were created by, empowered by or funded by the executive branch... that is done by the legislative branch through various laws and appropriations. To say that any one administration has grown government is an untrue statement, as they cannot do it without congress. J All that is necessary for the triumph of evil is that good men do nothing. - Edmund Burke
-
Congress has the power to grow government, the executive does not... or at the very least they have to go along with each other... That said... I do agree that the size of the federal government has grown to be rediculous, something that has not been stemed by either this Administration or Congress. for 9/11 it stops with the terrorists... for the governments shortcomings in dealing with terrorism, prior to 9/11... the buck is like a hot potato, it keeps getting passed around until it drops on the floor... Change in administrations has some impact, as do changes in Congress... it is much harder to effect change in the rank and file of the government... it is damn near impossible to fire a civil service employee... even when they are grossly incompetent, or don't play well with others... the problem is not limited to DoD or CIA... it is in all agencies, and why nothing really changes when it comes to the government. My original digital was a sony... that never really worked for skydiving... I went with the Olympus becuase it was 5MP, and I did not need to buy any lenses for it... it was also about $500 less than the D30 (which was the Canon available at the time), oh and MM was using one, so I figured it do OK... Since then, I have switched to a Canon D60... the speed (or lack of) of the Olympus was driving me nuts... I'm very happy with the switch. Man, who dug up this 2 year old thread!? It is amazing to see digital has exploded in such a relatively short time. I blew out my knee skiing about 12 years ago, partial ACL and bad cartiledge damage... I was on cruches for about a month, then could walk, and in about two months I could run... but nowhwere near at the same level I was pre-injury... At the time I was on an ROTC scholarship, but due to the injury I needed another phisical to determin if I was fit for duty... that physical determined I was not... Promptly upon graduation, I had surgery on the knee... followed by 2 months of intensive rehab... then another physical from the Army... this one went much better... fully fit for duty, including Airborne... I did 7 years on active duty, during which time the knee gave me a few problems, and it was easier to get tweaked doing strange stuff, but nothing too bad... I can still tell when its going to rain, and it will get sore if I push things too far, but again, nothing too major. If you have to get cut on, find the best ortho doctor you can... preferably one that speciallizes in sports medicine... and don't skimp on the rehab. Get well.
