By that statement, it would appear that either you have not shot a gun, or if you havem you did not enjoy it... that doesn't mean other share your experiance (or lack of)... What hobbies do you see as productive? I don't see where shooting is any more or less productive than say skydiving, or bowling, or golf, or kite flying... And to a lot of people that shoot, it is more than a hobbie, it is the exercise of a Constitutional right. As most could... I can hit more targets, in less time, with less ammo, firing single shot vs. full auto... When I was a platoon leader in the Army, my guys loved to go full auto (or 3-rd burts as the case was)... I put on a little demo for them... took the best shot in the platoon (aside from me) and gave him 3 30 round magazines, I had 1 30 round mag... he could shoot burst, me single shot... we each had to knock down 20 pop-ups of progressivly closer range (staring at 300m, working down to 50m)(each range for a specified amount of time, as many targets as you could hit)... The drill was 2 minutes long... The results... he ran out of ammo in 1.5 minutes, and knocked down 15 targets... I ran out of targes in 1.5 minutes and had 10 round left over... in the remaining 30 seconds I knocked down his remaining 5 targets, preventing him from being "overrun"... and still had 5 rounds left. They still liked to go on burst when we had ammo to burn, but not when shots counted. J All that is necessary for the triumph of evil is that good men do nothing. - Edmund Burke -

I 'd say its more than a want too... thats why its in the Bill of Rights... And note... the "well regulated malita" is not a condition of the "right to keep and bare arms" J All that is necessary for the triumph of evil is that good men do nothing. - Edmund Burke -

Where's your proof? *maybe* in NYC, but nationally, the means of acquisition are as I stated...links are elsewhere in the thread... I have bought a gun in everyone of those states, except SC... it was no easier than it was in MD. As for my gun being a danger... I keep them locked up... short of a blow tourch, noone is getting them but me. J All that is necessary for the triumph of evil is that good men do nothing. - Edmund Burke -

Let's play a little word substitution... Now with some small changes... I shoot guns because I love it. It's beyond freedom. My owning a gun doesn't jeopardize anyone around me. I shoot guns because I can, and I want to. Need and want are two different things. People want to skydive, they don't need to. Criminals get the majority of their guns through theft, not someone buying a gun legally and reselling it... I'm sure that happens in some cases, but its not the majority. Oh but you can... if you are willing to do all the paperwork and pay the taxes... What effect has the ban had? None... It was an artificial, feel good (not) measure, based purely on asthetics, not function... If the ban had some tangible effect on crime, I might say it should continue, but there has been no effect, so the ban should sunset, like it was intended. The bill was defeated 90 to 8 (2 abstentions / 5 Dems, 3 Reps voting Yea)... This is good in that the amendments tacked on were not good, bad in that gun manufactures are still open to legal action... J All that is necessary for the triumph of evil is that good men do nothing. - Edmund Burke

So has the Senate bill passed in its entirety, or just these amendments to it (which go out the window if the underlying bill does not pass)? Last I saw the bill itself had not yet been voted on... Even if it does, I don't know that the amendments will survive committee. J All that is necessary for the triumph of evil is that good men do nothing. - Edmund Burke

Q, man, you're hang'n out at the wrong DZ if you think the cameraflyers are at the bottom of the list... before I was taken off the market (happily), I did quite well with da ladies J All that is necessary for the triumph of evil is that good men do nothing. - Edmund Burke

If she was infact a GFA, meaning a HS Grad, Female, and scored 50 or better on the ASVAB (A), then she could pretty much write her own ticket in terms of MOS selection... she needs to talk to a different recuriter, better yet the Station Commander. She may not make it a career, but you said she wanted to go to school, so thats not really the issue, and the Army has the best programs (read most money) for that. Having been a recruiter, and having 40 of them work for me for over two years, I can say that the vast majority of recruiters (At least the Army ones) are honest... Do they put the best spin on the Army they can? Sure they do, they are in sales. Do they lie about the Army? Some do, but every alligation of recruiter inpropriety is investigated to the fullest. And more often than not (by a large margin) it is some kid who found out they don't like it and is doing whatever they can to get out of it. I don't mean to sound insensitive, but... EVERYONE who joins the military has an 8 year obligation, called Military Service Obligation, and it is served in a combination of Active, Active Reserve, and Inactive Reserve, depending on ones enlistment options... As to the rest of her situation, I've got a few questions... 1.Active or reserve? 2. Marital Status? 3. Had the child since on active duty? (if active), or did she have him when she enlisted? There is no reason for any soldier, who is responsible with their money, to be on food stamps. If she is a single parent, or both parents are military, they need to have a Family Care Plan, that defines what happens to the child in the event of deployment... if htey don't they can be administratively separated At present, noone is foreced to join, so you make your bed, you lie in it. I have served, 7 years in the Army. J All that is necessary for the triumph of evil is that good men do nothing. - Edmund Burke

I guess that why we have been asking for troops from other countries... why the country is still not stabilized... why the Iraqi army was allowed to just drift away into the desert... why we did the capture and release thing... yada, yada, yada... Or maybe that's why our doctrine keeps canging... was a two front war, then it was two major regional conflicts, now if one major regional conflict and a small one... What happens when North Korea moves South, China makes a move on Tiawan, or Rummy decides he want to take on Iran and Syria at the same time (don't believe he's not thinking about it)? Too many irons in the fire, and not enough resources. J All that is necessary for the triumph of evil is that good men do nothing. - Edmund Burke

Those bills have been in committee for over a year, and is still in a sub-commmittee in the House (along with 94 other items of legislation)... it is not anywhere on the congressional calendar (HoR or Senate)... I doubt it will go anywhere, anytime soon... I think the concept of national service is a good one, and further think that everyone should serve in the military, but thats just me, and I don't th ink it will happen, at least not in this form... Alot of people, including many in the Congress (from both sides) are getting a little tired of things being forced through on the basis of national or homeland security, I know I am. Congress would better spend their time revisiting the Patriot Act. I also think GWB needs to seriously consider some personnel changes for his next cabinet, specifically Rummy and Asscroft, maybe even Ridge. Best Wing Loading for a Velocity
jdhill replied to Velocity84's topic in Swooping and Canopy Control
In gerneral, I think the best range is between 2.0 and 2.3... I jump a 103 and a 96... when I got them I was about 2.1 on the 103 and 2.25 on the 96... I've put on a little weight since then so I'm loading them a little higher, and don't jump the 96 much... with 900 jumps, and not know how you fly, closer to 2.0 is a better starting place than 2.44 J All that is necessary for the triumph of evil is that good men do nothing. - Edmund Burke -
Its all good...another give away is the fact that it is green... most, if not all, of the Army MH's are black... that is why ABC if the trailing news agency, they put sh*t like that up w/o checking the facts. Nope, it was purely a political decision... every time they shot at a plane in the "no fly zone" it was a violation of the ceasefire agreement... they made the decision to let the UN play their game... all the while Saddam built long range missiles (another violation)... How much money did we blow during the Clinton years deploying troops to the region everytime Saddam moved a Division towards Kuwait? Saddam knew he could keep jerking our chain without any real threat of us doing anything, because there was no political will.
