Do you want to claim that most of the people listed on that page were killed by the US?... take a closer look... the majority of non-combatant deaths were caused by insurgent or terrorist actions, not US. J All that is necessary for the triumph of evil is that good men do nothing. - Edmund Burke

Well, in this case, no... Iraq does not have a stable civil/political environment... we are the cause of the that. You can argue all you want about if we should have gone or not, but we went, so we have an obligation to create conditions suitable for the new government to have a chance. The US goes through great pains to avoid collateral damage, even to the point of not engaging legitimate targets, but civilians will still get hurt. To say that all of whatever number of non-combatant (a better term to define the "problem")deaths are the fault of the US is ridiculous ... Some are, sure... mistakes do happen in spite of the the efforts to avoid them... But how many are because of an ADA battery being placed in a neighborhood? Using a school as an arms depot? Insurgents firing from rooftops of occupied buildings? To what extent should our troops endure hostile fire, simply to avoid collateral damage? I don't think its an issue that teachers choose to use colors other than red... but to tell them they can't, because it scares the kids is just silly... Teachers have used other colors for years, but most likely they started doing it for other reasons, like the other colors are easier on their eyes, or they were expressing themselves... Hell, at a lot of DZs, you can't get bigger than about a 4-way without running into somone from another country... I've got an old Army recruiting poster of the GKs doing a 60-ish way (i'll have to find it tonight and count)... my guess would be that its not much bigger than that. Its all part of the "wussification" of our youth... first they ban dodge ball, then they stop keeping score all together, now they stop using red pens, what's next? J All that is necessary for the triumph of evil is that good men do nothing. - Edmund Burke

At the time, it was a world record... but it is also the largest done in the US... which would make it the US record too. If you are looking for the largest formation with only US citizens... I found it kinda interesting that Ed Koch (D), the former Mayor of NYC (the last Dem. Mayor the city has had), spoke at the convention this morning, in favor of Bush... J All that is necessary for the triumph of evil is that good men do nothing. - Edmund Burke

Ollie is still entitled to his opinion as a Vietnam Vet, and I don't see any factual errors in his commentary... Ollie was not convicted of lying to congress... nor was he convicted of obstruction... he was convicted of destroying documents and aiding and abetting obstruction... and those things don't mean his opinion have any less weight than anyone else's... Like it or not, the sentiments that Ollie voices are the ones that Kerry has to deal with... which he has not done thus far. Kerry should have the guts to face Van Odell in person
jdhill replied to sundevil777's topic in Speakers Corner
And there is a link to an entire web page devoted to it... he does not have an entire web page devoted to his time in the Senate, his time as Lt. Gov., or his time as a prosecutor, or his time as an activist... I don't give a shit about it, really... the issue needs to be what he has done or has not done in the Senate. Maybe its not a centerpiece, or corner stone, but is most certainly a pillar of his campaign. J All that is necessary for the triumph of evil is that good men do nothing. - Edmund Burke -
Your right, we do make a distiction... 1945 was a much different time in terms of how war was conducted. Yet, you ackowledge that our military makes the distiction, but lump us in with the likes of SH... J All that is necessary for the triumph of evil is that good men do nothing. - Edmund Burke

You skipped all the "Get Informed" Links... the top of which is Jonh Kerry... where he offers his "get to know me" kinda stuff... He has chosen to drape himself in his Vietnam record... making it a centerpiece of who he is... therefore a centerpiece of his campaign. Which groups are currently sponoring? Your're right, we have... the difference being that, in gerneral, we make an effort to avoid it... I'm sure you recall learing about the events of 12/7/41... Japan delacred war on us... As a nation they were not innocent... that was the nature of warfare at the time. SH used them on his OWN people, as well as Iran. J All that is necessary for the triumph of evil is that good men do nothing. - Edmund Burke

Let's get our facts straight here... who started the war in Afganistan? Do you recall 9/11/01? As for Iraq, perhapse a mere technicallity, but SH was not allowing unfettered access to UN inspection teams, and was engaging in deceptive activities with regard to what programs he had, or did not have... This was a requirement of the '91 ceasefire... yes, ceasefire, not peace treaty... so, technically, this actions was put in motion by the invasion of Kuwait... Cluster munitions are area weapons, not WMDs... WMDs are generally accepted to be Nukes, Chemical Weapons, Biologic Weapons, or ballistic missiles with greater than a certain range. Yes, we've killed his people, its part of war... Yes we've torture his people, in an isolated incident. His actions were against the people he governed, and his actions were systematic, and routine. We are actually reducing our programs and stockpiles J All that is necessary for the triumph of evil is that good men do nothing. - Edmund Burke

You guys keep repeating that, but his actions say different... There are more bytes on his website dedicated to his 4.5 months in Vietnam than his 20 years in the Senate... He spent more time talking about and showchasing his service at the convention, where he only talked about his service in the Senate for 30 seconds... He want's the Vietnam issue because it is a distraction from what he is really embarassed by, his Senate record... The best thing the Bush campaign could do is start hammering him on that. They are a matter of public record, not personal recolection from 30 years ago. J All that is necessary for the triumph of evil is that good men do nothing. - Edmund Burke -
Swiftboat Veterans for Truth did not even exist when the complait against Kerry's campaign was lodged... the organization was not formed until 7/1/04... I think Bush has been fairly consistant in saying 527s should not be acting in this manner... I don't see where he needs to name each one specifically, on either side of the fence. The particulars of Kerry's service in Vietnam is not a big issue for me... its the apparent goal, since college, of setting himself up as the next JFK that is where his service record resonates... I'm not a huge fan of Bush... But if Kerry is the best the oposition can table... I'll stick with Bush. J All that is necessary for the triumph of evil is that good men do nothing. - Edmund Burke
