There was this small interceeding event, maybe you remember it... 9/11... it had a significant impact on an already slow economy (inherited from WJC)... need to stimulate the economy? Tax breaks are a way to do it... Increased spending, well they (congress and the administration) did create a new department in the government, that takes sending... then there was that whole war on terror thing... that cost money too... Deficit spending is not unusual... do you have credit card debt? Most company's have debt, as do most governments... all a result of deficit spending What would Kerry have done different? What did he vote for in the Senate? Edit to add... Would Kerry spend the $200B from Iraq on other things, like he says in his speeches? Or would he not spend it, i.e not deficit spend? If the picture was not in compliance with the yearbook's stated guideline, its not discrimination... If the picture is in compliance with the guidlines, and the decision was arbitrary, it is... What we do not have is the guidelines... One way to avoid all this is to not let students submit their own pictures at all, and only use the typical school photos. Its freedom at work... if I have a lot of money and I can donate it to a school, I'm going to donate it to a school that expresses similar values to my own... If that school begins to express values contray to mine, I have the freedom to withhold my donations, and feel obliged to let the school know why... if that cost someone their job, thats their problem... Of course that is with private schools... public schools, which we have, are a little different. Edit to add... that has nothing to do with the Patriot Act... I don't disagree that the PA has eroded certain rights... It needs some serious revisions. J J All that is necessary for the triumph of evil is that good men do nothing. - Edmund Burke

Are you suggesting that the Constitution does not apply to schools, or to minors? Ooops, I hear the door bell, I think its the ACLU... J All that is necessary for the triumph of evil is that good men do nothing. - Edmund Burke

I statrted thinking about it when they sent over 20% of my OAC class to Recruiting Command... Finalized my decision when I delt with too many officers who were likely to get me killed if we ever went to war... No problems at all... I'd spent 2 years living and working in the civilian world... one day I was in uniform, the next day I was not. The hardest part was getting my CoC to allow me the time to transition I was entitled to... a little bitch slap from the IG will even make an O-6 stand up straight... I doubt it. As a member of USPA, yes I would consider that frivolous... but it would be worth a phone call to find out why they made such a decision, and try to educate them about skydiving... As a member of the NRA, I don't see the case in question being frivolous... That picture has nothing to do with a zero tolerance policy on violence, drugs, or alcohol... It appears to be purely an anti-gun decision... IF the published policy for the yearbook said NO GUNS then I might reconsider... but it would still be in the NRA's interest to get the policy changed. The last set of yearbook guidlines I saw (earlier this year) outlined what was appropriate, and what was not... they said sporting equipment, whether or not school related, were appropriate (i.e. golf clubs or tennis raquets even though the school did not have such teams)... Nudity, pornography, and obscene language or gestures were the only things considered to be inappropriate... Without actually seeing this schools guidelines how can you assume that the lawsuit is frivalous, or if it is response to a purely arbritary, or worse discriminitory, decission with no basis in school or yearbook policy? It would have been easiy enough to say that you needed the guidelines before rendering a decision... but you called those involved in the suit jackasses... I don't think they are... but you don't see too many of the unskilled-unemployed standing in line to get them... they would rather stand in line for the handout at the wellfare office. Edit to add... Legal aliens are willing to take on this kind of work... you just don't see a lot of citizens... many of these jobs pay well above minimum wage J All that is necessary for the triumph of evil is that good men do nothing. - Edmund Burke

So there is no citizenship check? Since you can get a SSN and DL as a resident alien... are non-citizens allowed to vote in CO? J All that is necessary for the triumph of evil is that good men do nothing. - Edmund Burke

Just wondering who would do all those jobs that America's unemployed won't take? Paying more for the jobs doesn't work because its work they feel their above, regardless of what it pays, and it would also just slow down the economy... so what has been solved? Did you even read my original post? I said that some Iraqi's are involved in legitimate resistance... just not all Iraqis that have taken to violence are... For years, Iraqis have asked us, and the world to help rid them of Saddam, and even more have thanked us for finally doing it... Please elaborate on why you think this is mindless... Are you suggesting that there are no criminals in Iraq who are shooting at people or kidnapping people for other than nationalistic reasons (say for ransome, monitary gain)? Are you suggesting that there are no terrorists that are Iraqi? Who are fighting for religious reasons, or at the prompting of other governments (say Iran)? If you are, you are obviously not quite as worldly as you pretend to be... How can you see anything with your head in the sand? It would seem, at least when using Webster's definitions, that they are not mutually exclusive, nor even opposed to each other. Whereas socialism is in contradiction to both... It does, but it does fit many liberals in the US. J All that is necessary for the triumph of evil is that good men do nothing. - Edmund Burke -
Anyone want to see the true nature of our enemies?
jdhill replied to skycop's topic in Speakers Corner
I disagree... Many Liberals think that it is the that people cannot provide for themselves, so the goverment must provide for them (entitlement mentality). Conservatives tend to think people have the ability and responsibility to solve their own problems. Also, being liberal or conservative has nothing in particular to do with party affiliation J All that is necessary for the triumph of evil is that good men do nothing. - Edmund Burke -

I can understand the Iraqi who is opposed to US occupation taking up arms against us... in their mind they are fighting against an invader... that does not mean that we should not countinue to support the Iraqi government in putting them down... But what of the Syrians, Jordanians, Saudis, Iranians who are shooting at the government and US forces, or blowing up car bombs in front of police stations? They are terrorists... Someone else said any Iraqi that picked up arms against the US was a resistance fighter, to that I say BULL SHIT. Some of them are, yes. Others are criminals, or religious fanatics, or terrorists... IMO only those that take up arms for nationalist reason are resistance fighters (and I would even throw former regiem members in this group)... that still doesn't mean that US, or the Iraqi government should not put them, and those that harbor them down. Um... three administrations, one of them a two term'er, have wrestled with Iraq... that's hardly a quick decision. J All that is necessary for the triumph of evil is that good men do nothing. - Edmund Burke

And there lies the differences of opinion about the war... The administration beivied that the intelligence, from multiple sources, that WMDs were still there out weighed the intelligence that said they weren't... and further that the UN had been given long enough, and it was time to act... That was the administration's call to make (as was granted by the congessional vote)... If you agree with the administrations thinking, your likely to vote for Bush... If you think the administration was wrong, vote him out... just make sure you vote for a candidate that would have truely acted differently... Courage of convictions and physical courage are not necessaily synonymous... Doing what one believes is right despite the implications to oneself is in many ways courageous... Again, if you think that Bush was right vote for him. If you think Bush was wrong on Iraq, vote for someone who has been constantly against the war, from the beginning. Oh wait, that guy got beat in the primaries... J All that is necessary for the triumph of evil is that good men do nothing. - Edmund Burke
