Sotomayor wrote the following about Brett Jones: "“the victim of violence and neglect that he was too young to escape.” His biological father was an alcoholic who physically abused his mother, who had severe mental health problems. His stepfather abused him, too, using “belts, switches, and a paddle.” He openly expressed his hatred for Jones. When Jones moved to Mississippi to live with his grandparents, he abruptly lost access to medication he took for mental health issues, including hallucinations and self-harm. Jones’ grandfather beat him, as well. One day in 2004, when Jones’ grandfather tried to hit him, Jones stabbed him repeatedly, killing him. He had turned 15 just 23 days earlier. Jones tried to save his grandfather with CPR but failed. " Anybody remember how Kavanuagh and his supports like Brent argued how his youthful behaviour should not be held against him during his confirmation hearing?

Funny you post that on the day the Supreme Court you celebrated so much decided it is perfectly fine for children to spend their lives in prison.

If you have people spending lifetimes in jail for shoplifting or smoking a joint, what exactly is the appropriate punishment for kneeling on somebody's neck for 9 minutes until they are dead?
-
Wouldn't have made a difference. Case in point: Kawaski Trawick shooting. Link to story

Brent shows how the problem isn't CNN or Fox or any of the media/entertainment companies providing news. The problem is people's inability to think about what they are reading or watching.

Not in GTA or urban areas of Quebec. Rest of Canada, I agree.

Didn't O'Keefe have to apologize for making shit up and pay a settlement fee?

Just not a ramp or a glass of water....now we all know how difficult it is to drink a glass of water with one hand. Never know where your mouth is going to be, better use two hands!

Or that the president of the Boston Police union was really a child molester and the Boston police knew about it all along. One of the interesting side stories around the Gaetz investigation is that there are at least two cases of people discussing running phantom candidates to increase the odds of a Republican getting elected. More and more i am convinced that whatever Republicans accuse other people off, it really is just them projecting what they are doing.

Unfortunately both our countries allow for loopholes, through child marriage. A practice I find despicable and one that should be changed immediately. In Canada, children between 16 and 18 can get married with parental consent. In many US states that limit either doesn't exist or is significantly lower, some as low as 13. Texas is trying to pass a bill that would label those parents helping their transgender children as child abusers, but does allow a 14 year young child to get married with parental consent. We really need to stop letting religious dogma dictate legislation.

Have an uncle who ran a live aboard dive operation out of Thailand for many years. Some great stories from his early days.

Because your government cut funding to the department responsible for doing such.

Everybody is afraid of everybody. Two uniformed branches showing clear fear for the other. In a country that prides itself on its level of freedom. When comparing that level of freedom to most other western countries, the only real difference on "freedom" is the restrictions on hate speech and the restrictions on being able to carry your gun everywhere. In return you get that level of fear and violence.

They can join the Appalachian coal miners.

Cops are afraid of an army lieutenant, army lieutenant is afraid of the cops....and somehow this is all the epitome of freedom? If this is the trade off for being allowed to spew hate speech and carry guns everywhere, do Americans really find it odd people from other countries don't quite see it as worth it?

But on the weekend I was hearing reports how labour shortages are hampering the re-opening of the economy in various areas.

What makes you think that this is new?

Same here. Wife and I will be getting first shots on Sunday morning. Unknown whether Pfizer or Moderna, we will find out Sunday morning....

There is generally really only one reason the USA goes into massive borrowing and that is to give more money to rich people. Capitalism is key. So you use the sentiment created by the pandemic to get massive borrowing and spending approved. Then you set up a system that delivers the majority of these funds to already very rich people. You tell the gullible that it will trickle down. Then when unemployment goes through the roof, you blame it on the pandemic, cause....duh. And the gullible will stand on their box and tell the world how great employment was.....The rich then donate to political party of choice.
-
According to Trump that would make you not very smart.
-
I, I, I, I. The Republican vote is starting to make sense.
-
But that all came with massive deficits. Are you not concerned about deficits? From what I see, you want free stuff and you want others to pay for it. That doesn't sound very Republican. And since you have indicated you see the pricing of ammo and guns to be purely driven by increased demand, why are you voting to reduce the demand for guns and ammunition?
-
So Remington went bankrupt under a Republican and is doing well under a Democrat. Why are you voting Republican?
-
So under Democrats gun sales go up, stock market performs better and less abortions take place. Why do you vote Republican?

To pay for the civil war. But the why isn't the important part here. You are arguing that kerosene won out on pure market economics without government influence. Camphine and the taxation on ethanol shows that is simply not the case. Government influence certainly effected the outcome. Whether that was the desired outcome, or a side-effect is not important to refute your "market forces" only argument.
