Canadian healthcare system definitely has its issues, different per province. Wife spent two hours waiting for an ambulance a few weeks ago. Definite issues.

What does that mean? If you mean the contracts have non-aggressive timelines, that may be the case, but that is not what I am talking about. it is actually completely besides the point. You indicated the US was feeling bad for Canada and was giving vaccines to Canada. I simply said that allowing shipments of paid for vaccines is not the same as giving and that implying such would be disingenuous. Canada's vaccine roll-out has been very poorly managed. Not sure why you are trying to conflate those two issues.
-
The procurement took place prior to that announcement. Canada was early in coming to procurement agreement, knowing it lacked the facilities to manufacture domestically. One of those contracts is for instance with Pfizer. Pfizer manufactures the vaccine both in the US and the EU. The contract with Pfizer does not stipulate a manufacturing site. So when the US allows Pfizer to ship vaccines from the US to Canada, it isn't "giving" the vaccine to Canada. It is allowing Pfizer to live up to a contractual obligation from within the US.
-
For Canada at least, those are doses previously procured by Canada, which have not been allowed to be exported by the US government. Characterizing that as them being "given" is just ever so slightly disingenuous. And the saying is c'est la vie.

And a police chief who seemed to sum it up as the perpetrator having a bad day. Not sure that is what he really meant, but certainly not a great "look".

There IS a problem with global warming... it stopped in 1998

Not at all, just look at the "scientists" who continue to deny climate change, or that smoking is bad for you. -
No, just the next iteration of the border crisis.

Under that logic you should be opposed to guns too. Models are essential. The fact they can be manipulated to show different things isn't a fault of models. Criticize the scientists shaping the model, but that does require a decent level of understanding. This idea you seem to espouse that all scientists are "on the take" is insane. -
Duke University would like a word with you.

House blocks deportation of US military veterans

You just had people, who believe the government is controlled by a group that drink the blood of children, storm your Capitol building and kill a few police officers. Wasn't a small group either. You elect politicians who believe 9/11 and mass school shootings are a hoax. You make hate peddlers multi-millionaires. To me that is all pretty dysfunctional. -

Sure, just as long as they fit within the decency laws. You are ensured the right to have a gun, just not a dildo, or a boobie without clothes over it. -

Kind of like as a country telling the rest of the world you are better than anybody else? Maybe invade a few countries to enforce your democracy? -

Agreed, in my 28 years in Europe I never met Americans with Canadian flags stitched to their backpacks. -

Self reflection is touch, I get it. America, Fuck Yeah is a thing for a reason. As a nation you (general) have spent decades telling the world you are the best at everything. Unfortunately often when challenged Americans get grumpy. -

So, as I understand it now: There is clear and easy path to enlist. Recruiters likely tell non-Americans that serving in the military provides a path to naturalization. Then once you are in, turns out path isn't that clear, not that many resources available etc. Then once you are out and of no further use there is no to little support and no protections from deportation. So they get used on the way in, used and broken during service, not supported once broken and then deported when of no further use. All very transactional in nature, with any potential benefit hard to achieve and really dependant on the individual fighting for themselves. That does all sound very American to me, which was my original point. It is all very on brand. Including the charities set up to help these people. Government not involved with helping people and to let charities (and of course the deductions for contributions) do the work. -

That's not what I was saying. There is a law that gives them a path. But it isn't necessarily a clear path nor obviously well documented or facilitated during military service. Lots of stories from deported veterans about that. Your argument was that all veterans are in favour of immediate path to citizenship for those who have served. However, there is clearly no immediate path, which is what my comment about it not being the law was about.. -

Bigun's argument is that the military and all its members made it very clear to non-American members how this process worked. So I am asking him why he thinks these veterans didn't become American citizens. Many of the deported veterans state it wasn't that clear. -

They may say it. However that is not the law. And from the stories the military certainly didn't make it very clear to permanent residents enlisting. So maybe veterans say it now, but they evidently weren't very clear about it when they were active duty. That also doesn't touch on the wider problem. How many veterans have mental disorders related to their time in the military. Many of those are not effectively being dealt with. The military has a long history of denying that active duty and veterans could be mentally affected by their time in service. For non-American veterans the effects of these mental disorders and lack of support can lead to deportation. Those deportation orders were very actively being enforced by LEO, specially under Trump. LEO is very heavily employed by veterans. -

In the US the immigrants won too. I know you won't take my word for it, since in true American fashion you believe yourself far superior. But, just ask any member of First Nations. -

I know. But in general the American Way includes a belief that government is not there to help society and that for individuals everything is "buyer beware". It also includes a belief that being born in the US makes one more entitled than anybody not born in the US. The military example is classic behaviour of such. Now the comment is generally "well they knew what they are getting into". -

And then used chain migration to bring her family into the country. Let's be very clear, the issue the GOP has with migration really only relates to non-white people coming into the country. Using people for the military, breaking them and then deporting them cause they are broken comes across as very American. -
I think this is much more what is playing in the background. Trump needs a GOP governor in New York.
