  1. I don't get it But, for the record, I LOVE fried ice cream. So if you have something negative to say about it, please warn me so I may cover my ears and sing "Mary had a little lamb" to myself Sorry, could have written it more clearly I guess. I meant that color-safe bleach is one of those seemingly contradictory things you would never think to exist, kind of like fried ice cream. The quote about fried ice cream is from a Funkadelic song called "Promentalshitbackwashpsychosisenemasquad." And for the record, I have nothing against fried ice cream, so please don't be offended.
  2. Color-safe bleach -- reminds me of "fried ice cream is a reality"... When you're done with your load, give this technique on how to fold a shirt a try. I've tried it a few times, but I can't seem to get it right. I think there's a certain Zen to it... Be humble, ask questions, listen, learn, follow the golden rule, talk when necessary, and know when to shut the fuck up.
  3. ...for the vibes. I blazed through the Boston course yesterday at a 7:05 pace, finishing at 3:05:40. I'm a bit superstitious when it comes to my marathons, so I think the vibes from my friends, family and you guys really helped out. Really, thanks a lot. And selbbub, thanks for having the heart to volunteer and help the runners, you guys really were amazing yesterday. Be humble, ask questions, listen, learn, follow the golden rule, talk when necessary, and know when to shut the fuck up.
  4. Yeah, that's it. Comment on the posters rather than discuss the issue, par-for-the-course in Speaker's Corner. Very much like the discussions we have here about left/right democrat/republican. Might I add, that's a rather presumptuous thing to write. Ok professor, I won't forget that. Funny though that the news as of this morning says that the recount isn't done yet. Does your vote somehow carry extra weight to tip the balance over 50%, or is it one of the many things about Italy and Italians that you just know? Be humble, ask questions, listen, learn, follow the golden rule, talk when necessary, and know when to shut the fuck up.
  5. I do. If you don't, why bother bumping what was already a dead thread. Be humble, ask questions, listen, learn, follow the golden rule, talk when necessary, and know when to shut the fuck up.
  6. Thanks a lot y'all! I feel a bit Shayna-ish asking for vibes after not having trained as I did for previous marathons, so I appreciate your generosity! Be humble, ask questions, listen, learn, follow the golden rule, talk when necessary, and know when to shut the fuck up.
  7. After a winter of eating a lot, drinking lotsa beer, not training as hard as I did for previous marathons...and as a result gaining 15 pounds, I'm hoping some dropzone.com vibeage will help me run a half-decent marathon on Monday. So I'd really appreciate a vibe or two if you can spare some. Thanks a lot :) Be humble, ask questions, listen, learn, follow the golden rule, talk when necessary, and know when to shut the fuck up.
  8. Is that a bad thing? Are you in support of the war, and if so, why -- do you think it is in Italy's interest to participate? If there's any reason I would have voted for Berlusconi, it's because he's tough on immigration. But his policies amount to nothing since he ignores the mafia -- and part of what the mafia does is let immigrants in through the ports they run. It's a good money-maker. As far as these terrorists go, that's horrible, but that still would happen regardless of which Prime Minister is in power, no? Speaking of disinformation, how about Italy's press freedom, or recent lack thereof...are you sure you're well-informed? Cosa ne pensi? Be humble, ask questions, listen, learn, follow the golden rule, talk when necessary, and know when to shut the fuck up.
  9. I'm not sure who you consider to be the "moderates"; if they're the people who post completely inane bonfire-esque fluff here, or those who think apathy is cool, or those that believe they're so moderate that they're too good to contribute something meaningful or state a real opinion, they've been posting a lot less, and that's not a bad thing in my book. As far as PA's go, I don't see a whole lot of that. Perhaps my interpretation of a PA is different. I do see heaps of sniping here though, I suppose that detracts from the exchange. One thing I do know is that this is amateur political exchange -- most of us here are not economists, public policy experts, theologians, etc. and because of that, you end up with a lot of invective and hyperbole here. I don't take this forum seriously enough to expect otherwise, and I doubt you do either. Regarding the extremist types, I think they are the ones who make this forum entertaining, so long as things don't get personal. I've resigned to the fact that people will keep the opinions they have no matter what facts may be presented to them, and that's fine. I enjoy having a place to air my opinion, and this is actually a heck of a lot more civil than craigslist discussion forums or Yahoo political chat rooms. I try to keep an open mind, and though I can't say that many of my opinions have shifted, I thought John Rich's thread about bottled water was an eye-opener. Since I read that, I've been drinking a whole lot less of Poland Spring. As far as the "THREAD" goes, I think it belongs in the bonfire, it's like an inside joke that's beaten to death and just isn't funny -- and hasn't been, in ages. Glad to see it on the second page these days... Be humble, ask questions, listen, learn, follow the golden rule, talk when necessary, and know when to shut the fuck up.
  10. Giulio Andreotti was Prime Minister of Italy SEVEN times. Yes, SEVEN freaking times, even after being convicted of having ties to the mafia...yet never having served any jail time for it due to statutory limitations. As for now? He's serving as a senator for life. Not kidding. In a clusterf.ck of a government like that, expect some weird sh.t to happen in the recount process...should be interesting to watch what happens in the next few days/weeks. I predict it's going to make Florida 2000 look like a textbook example of how recounts should be done. 11. In Arkansas or South Dakota? Good luck... This thread really reminds me of this thread, only this one wasn't posted in jest. edited to add: I get some good teas from Pearl River Mart. You can order online from them -- check out this link. I recommend the FooJoy Jasmine tea, but pretty much any of the teas they sell in that store are of decent quality. 12. Just being optimistic I really, really hope this isn't another case of "Dewey Defeats Truman"... Be humble, ask questions, listen, learn, follow the golden rule, talk when necessary, and know when to shut the fuck up.
  13. True, he's extremely well-spoken, that's for sure...and infinitely more successful in business than GWB ever was. As leader of a government and one of the world's leading economies? He's a miserable failure, and that's where I'm drawing the parallel. Yeah, like comparing himself to Jesus and Napoleon...likening a German diplomat to a Nazi camp guard...his Neapolitan singing (even funnier since he's from Milan)...calling Italian judges "anthropologically different"...saying that those who wouldn't vote for him are "morons"...his cosmetic surgery...and so on... some of this news had me laughing out loud in disbelief when I read it -- Prodi is pretty flat and won't provide that kind of entertainment...but I guess if a boring guy can get the job done then I'm willing to sacrifice a few laughs. I take it that's a rhetorical question

  15. Italy's version of GWB is out... One of the few good things Berlusconi did was that he granted dual citizens like myself and expats the right to vote abroad. So thanks to him, I was able to cast my vote for Prodi this morning at the consulate. Not a great alternative, but much better than a self-serving aristocrat hellbent on gutting democracy for his own benefit. No matter how much Berlusconi tried to manipulate the laws and exploit the media outlets he owns to benefit himself and his supporters, he still lost. Hopefully, as former head of the EU, Prodi will help revive the stagnant Italian economy and Italy will no longer be the laughingstock of Europe. And surely, Italian troops will be out of Iraq soon. 18. ST was fun listening, but my personal favorite of that era is Dead Kennedys, their lyrics are hilarious and brutally true at the same time, even 20 years later you can see the parallels. Jello Biafra was brillant. I also liked the ST spinoff Infectious Grooves. Wish they'd put something new out, not sure if they're still together. edited to add: I forget how I ended up on their site, but these guys are hard as f.ck, not necessarily a great band but pretty entertaining to listen to -- their lead singer screams so loud I started cracking up when I was listening to it, specifically near the end of the song called "Home": Church of Hate Be humble, ask questions, listen, learn, follow the golden rule, talk when necessary, and know when to shut the fuck up.
  19. Hi, At the advice of skymama I'm posting in this forum in hopes of being able to post a review for Parasport (Stream) Freefly Suits. Currently there are many jumpsuits brands available for review but not Parasport jumpsuits. I bought one recently and would like to post a review of one, if that is ok. Here is a link to the Parasport site if you would like to have a look: http://parasport.it/findex.php?LANG=ENG Thank you, Paul Be humble, ask questions, listen, learn, follow the golden rule, talk when necessary, and know when to shut the fuck up.
  20. Hahaa!! That video is a mirror of my AFF1 -- forgot to pull, even with two different index fingers in front of my face for some time. It was all about the sensory overload, and when I got to the ground, I was able to recall only certain parts of the jump. Most of the things I did/didn't do that the instructors were telling me about were news to me. I was disappointed in myself for not passing AFF1 and considered scratching the whole thing, but I'm very glad I stuck with it! To the original poster -- stay with it, what you're experiencing is very normal. You'll get used to the air sooner than you think. Welcome to skydiving
  21. Yes, because the new patriotism dictates that you can't disagree with or criticize anything American -- especially if you're American. Considering it bothers you that others exercise their right to free speech, perhaps it's you who should consider Saudi Arabia or Iran.[email] Be humble, ask questions, listen, learn, follow the golden rule, talk when necessary, and know when to shut the fuck up.

  23. I've been reading heaps of Roman History lately. Fascinating stuff, particularly Mithraism, the adopted cult of the Roman legions after their battles with the Parthians in the east. Mithras is an Indo-Iranian sun god dating back 4000 years. Do the practices and beliefs of this ancient pagan religion seem somewhat familiar to you? - The birth of Mithras was celebrated on 25 December - Mithras was born of a virgin - Three Wise Men, or "Magi," from Persia came to visit Mithras at the time of his birth - Mithras celebrated a Last Supper with his Twelve Disciples, who represented the twelve signs of the Zodiac - Mithras' body was laid to rest in a rock tomb - Mithras came from heaven and was known as a "savior" - Mithraism initiated its followers through baptism - Mithraism participated in a bread and wine sacrament, symbolic of the body and blood of the Sacred Bull - Mithraic day of worship was Sunday (Jesus, a practising Jew, observed Sabbath on Saturday) - Mithraism had conceptions of good and evil, heaven and hell, and a final judgement day at the end of times - Mithras was referred to as "The Way, the Truth, the Light" - The death of Mithras was marked by a solar eclipse - - Mithras died and rose from the dead, and his ascension to heaven was celebrated during the equinox - Mithra performed miracles that included raising the dead, healing the ill, curing blindness, casting out demons - Mithras was mediator between heaven and earth and was a member of a Trinity - From the wall of a Mithraic temple in Rome: "And thou hast saved us by shedding the eternal blood." 24. In all fairness to your ex-governor, I wouldn't expect him as President to demand Enron's books before anything happened. Would you? Same goes for Clinton. In fact, being the greasy politicians that they are, I wouldn't expect either of them to do much to stop it even if they knew something fishy was going on at Enron. And it's quite possible that both of them did. What makes me suspicious is the administration's apathy toward the shredding of the materials that was going on for weeks in light of all those who lost their savings after the sh.t hit the fan. Couple that apathetic response with Shrub's and Bush Sr.'s buddy-buddy relationship with Kenneth Lay, and you have the circumstances that point toward a pardon if he ends up in jail. I'm not saying that Clinton wouldn't pardon Kenneth Lay if this went on during his term (as a matter of fact I heard that Kenneth Lay contributed to Clinton's campaigns as well); whether he would or would not is irrelevant because, well, he hasn't held office for five years now. Be humble, ask questions, listen, learn, follow the golden rule, talk when necessary, and know when to shut the fuck up.
  25. If they're in fact guilty, I hope so too. Do the words "Kenny Boy" ring a bell? Way to invoke the oh-so-original "but Clinton..." argument. Do you have a selective memory? Enron really went apeshit once Shrub took power. Be humble, ask questions, listen, learn, follow the golden rule, talk when necessary, and know when to shut the fuck up.
