No, the worst call of the tournament was the red card given to Materazzi earlier in the game. Consider that "come-uppance." Oh, and that wasn't a bad call. Did you see the defender raise his elbows when he was on the ground? The attacker tripped over him perhaps a bit selectively, but it was obstruction nonetheless since the defender did *not* win that ball. Funny how when anyone else in the world is fouled, it's ok...and when an Italian is fouled, the ref is fixed and/or it's called diving. Hate all you want playa...bring 'em on in the quarters baby. FORZA ITALIA!!!!!! GRANDE GRANDE GRANDISSSSSIMA ITALIAAA!!!!

Maybe not so current at this point, but did anyone see Maxi Rodriguez's winning goal vs. Mexico yesterday? $$$$$!!!! Be humble, ask questions, listen, learn, follow the golden rule, talk when necessary, and know when to shut the fuck up.

I wouldn't doubt it too much -- I'm pretty sure that these red cards carry over into the next round. So Portugal is going to be missing Deco and Costinha...that already is a big advantage for England. I hate seeing Holland lose, the ball just wouldn't go in the f.cking goal for them, argh! sehr gut heute, und viel Gluck am Freitag... Ich habe Argentina viel gern, aber ich hoffe, daB Deutschland gewinnen werden, damit die Azzurri ihr in die Semis besiegen konnen Be humble, ask questions, listen, learn, follow the golden rule, talk when necessary, and know when to shut the fuck up.

OZZY OZZY OZZY! OY OY OY! Sorry MB.. never liked the Italy team! I'm used to it dude...seems like my team is either loved by a few or hated by most with stereotypes and exaggerations, no in between. It's all good, wearing the three stars is quite comforting Be humble, ask questions, listen, learn, follow the golden rule, talk when necessary, and know when to shut the fuck up.

Nice going...took 'em long enough, but they did it. Have you seen your end of the bracket? Yeesh. I'm kind of wishing you guys came in first in your group so we could whoop yer asses in the quarters. Not going to happen though... If you make it past the quarter finals, you'll no doubt make it to the finals...good luck with Spain, they're looking phenomenal thus far. not said to get a rise out of anyone. I know you're not a soccer fan and you don't give a rat's ass about it. this is a soccer thread and I stated a fact -- the US went out like suckers and it's attitudes like yours that make me not care -- and I say that as an American. So the following statement wasn't posted to get a rise out of anyone? Could have fooled me. Have fun under your bridge, son. edited to take Mr. Lummy's posts into account. No offense to you, sir. And my opinion still stands that your opinion sucks azzz

My opinion is that your opinion sucks ass...not our problem if you can't appreciate the greatest sport in the world. It's opinions like yours that make me completely apathetic to the fact that the US team went out like suckers earlier today. But thanks for sharing your wisdom with us. I don't see this being an easy game for Italia. Bresciano has been playing in Serie A for years and knows the Italian game quite well...Viduka and Newell are no joke...and your team is very inspired. If (when) you guys do go down, it won't be without a fight. That was one hell of a showing against Croatia earlier, congrats Dream on...we ain't goin' out like that Be humble, ask questions, listen, learn, follow the golden rule, talk when necessary, and know when to shut the fuck up.

I think a bit too much of that thujone went to your head, monsieur. By the way, remember what happened last time your team played an African team in the world cup? Good luck qualifying tomorrow...your team will need it, judging from the way they've been playing thus far Be humble, ask questions, listen, learn, follow the golden rule, talk when necessary, and know when to shut the fuck up.

How's it going over there in Sydney, Ms. kirrz? I'll bet y'all are partying your asses off after that 2-2 tie vs Croatia, no? May the best team win next round Be humble, ask questions, listen, learn, follow the golden rule, talk when necessary, and know when to shut the fuck up.

Yeah, I only saw the first half (had to leave for work) but I'd agree with you on that. They just weren't dominating like they were in the game with Italy. Nor were they fouling up the wazoo like they were in the game vs. Italy. With Freddy Adu in the lineup in the coming years, expect major improvements in the American game. Bank on a new coach too -- while most of the US players aren't quite world class, much more creative things could have been done tactically in all three games to make them more competitive. Just like the Beatles the Italians got by with a little help from their friends - officials. Where did you get that rubbish? Did you even see the game? Granted, the ref in the USA game was messed up and was handing out cards like candy (and he wasn't just favouring the Italians -- he gave Totti a yellow that he didn't deserve in the beginning of the game), but there were no questionable calls in this game -- Polak's two yellows were well-deserved. Italy just played great football :) Be humble, ask questions, listen, learn, follow the golden rule, talk when necessary, and know when to shut the fuck up.

Mithras and the Pagan Origins of Christianity
masterblaster72 replied to masterblaster72's topic in Speakers Corner
Actually, it's more like a chicken/egg scenario. Mithraism could very well have had an influence on Christianity; it is not known which had an influence on which. As an aside, ever hear of the Irish saint Brigid? The Celts in Ireland didn't much fancy the idea of giving up worship of their god Brigid so St. Patrick, being the brilliant and persuasive man that he was, made Brigid a saint. Problem solved. To me, Christianity is a pagan religion. The trinity itself is not a monotheistic concept. Another example (one of many) is an annual celebration in rural Italy involving snakes. The celebration is an ancient one, actually dating back to pre-Roman times. Interesting how they adapted it into Christianity. Micro: I read about that Mithraic temple in Rome, and I plan on seeing it next time I visit. markharju: I don't think binary as you do, so I'm sorry, but I'm not going to turn this into some retarded, tired old Christianity vs. Islam argument. I have no interest in doing so. Be humble, ask questions, listen, learn, follow the golden rule, talk when necessary, and know when to shut the fuck up. -
Or get a bigger jumpsuit :) 147mph for belly is *crazy* fast, that's actually the lower end of my sit-fly speed. I track at 111mph...haven't done a belly-to-earth jump with my pro-track yet, but I imagine it's less than 120mph since I have trouble keeping up with pretty much anyone when on my belly. Yeah, I found the officiating to be inconsistent and the players to be very good actors. Every time some one was touched they fell down and acted like they broke a femur. That will be the last soccer game I watch for a long time. I'll give you some time. Ready? GO! ...................O.K. Over it yet? Seriously. That's the way the Italians have played since uhhhhh....EVER. Take all the ME time you need. As long as you're done before NOON EST tomorrow. Australia/Brazil?! Holy sh*t! I'm setting out my chips and dip NOW! Italians play that way when they're uninspired, like yesterday. On good days, they play fairly, creatively, and they win -- like vs. Ghana. Unfortunately the 'dive' was invented in Serie A (Italian league), so Italians have the stigma of being divers -- so much so that when Totti was tackled from behind in the penalty box in 2002 vs. Korea and fell (not faking), the ref responded with a (bogus) red card. If you watched Italy in 1982, 1990, 1994, Euro 2000...you'd see that Italy does in fact play some of the best football there is; they have not played like that since "ever," as you said. Regarding getting carried off on the stretcher -- yeah it looks a bit pansy but they're taken off on them for the sake of not potentially aggravating an injury by walking on it; it's a precautionary measure. In the instances yesterday when Italian players were carried off they got nailed hard, and I know at least two of them were collisions with their own teammates, so it's not like they were faking anything for the sake of drawing cards. As far as yesterday's 'theatrics' -- USA was tackling from behind *tons* until Eddie Pope got his second yellow, then the USA cleaned up their act. Given, many times Italy was "falling easy" from those tackles but I didn't really see one "opera dive." Nonetheless, Italy still played for shite. Hopefully they'll get it together against Czech Republic -- they'll have to. One good outcome of yesterday's game at least is that all kinds of American fans will be rooting for Italia in their next game edited to add: Way to to Korea!! What their team lacks in skill they make up for in heart...nice outcome, without any help from the referees great game! I'm completely disgusted. Italy played a beautiful game against Ghana, and now this. Even given a (questionable) 10 on 9, they couldn't do sh.t in the second half. Pirlo and Zambrotta were the only Italians awake during the second half. What a joke. They'll need a lot of luck against Czech Republic next week if they play the same way... I can imagine Americans that already dislike soccer who gave the game a chance today are even more turned off now...god, what an awful game. Right...that elbow was a disgrace and DeRossi deserved the red card and then some. Hopefully the young man learned his lesson and will behave in his next tournament. That Italian autogol to make it 1-1 sucked too. Both teams are fouling up the wazoo -- the first half was really sh.tty to watch. Hopefully Italia will turn things around in the second half. For a second I wondered if that photo was doctored, but the juxtaposed flowers underneath Saddam and bin Laden were enough proof to me that they were in the same place together. hilarious, I laughed out loud at that one Be humble, ask questions, listen, learn, follow the golden rule, talk when necessary, and know when to shut the fuck up. -

You've GOT to be kidding us on this one. Actually, I think Fox's BS reporting is exactly why they're the #1 news outlet -- the sensational and partial commentary and the baiting with loaded questions adds entertainment value that other news outlets have not offered.
