I know, I was just aping the über pro-fracking crowd. The industry hides behind this reasoning to keep drilling and destroying water supplies with impunity. I would like to see people like the OP tell these poor folks suffering from cancer that "fracking is perfectly safe -- full stop." Well, there ya go -- these elevated levels of contaminants have absolutely nothing to do with fracking. Case closed. Be humble, ask questions, listen, learn, follow the golden rule, talk when necessary, and know when to shut the fuck up.

I agree with you. However, television viewers are generally far too lazy and apathetic (albeit PBS viewers perhaps somewhat less so) to do such legwork. "Informed consumer" has become an oxymoron these days. Be humble, ask questions, listen, learn, follow the golden rule, talk when necessary, and know when to shut the fuck up.

Winning the hearts and minds of minorities, GOP style
masterblaster72 replied to kallend's topic in Speakers Corner
I thought the republicans made great progress in 2000 when they had the Delfonics and Chaka Khan perform at the republican convention. What happened? PS That candidate is very easy on the eyes -- she would certainly get my vote. How long before you considered yourself a nom-smoker?
masterblaster72 replied to Nataly's topic in The Bonfire
So true. I started at 15 years old when I was in Europe for a summer, quit at least 20 times for anywhere from a few days to a few months until I turned 31, when I quit for four years. After those four years, I started with one drag, then a cigarette, then a pack...then smoked habitually again for five years. Quitting this time around was a process that took almost a year for me. First I stopped buying, then I would drink, then slip up and buy a pack. Then I would stop buying completely and just ask someone for a cigarette. It was the quitting completely even when out on the town that was the last hump for me, and I finally did it on April 4th last year. It's been over 14 months since my last cigarette now (had plenty of nights out on the town since), and I hope never to do it again. I keep in mind that all it takes is one drag to get me back in the habit for years, and remembering that keeps me from smoking under any circumstances. That and the list of almost 20 reasons not to smoke that I referenced and added to my cell phone repeatedly as I built up the will to quit. I would rather be much like the OP and never have smoked at all...but in any case it feels good not to be smoking and not wanting to. Not so good in Turkey right now. :/

This elected official is also a reflection of the majority of the electorate of Turkey. Sadly, a lot of Turks dig the term "Neo Ottomanism." Remember, we are talking about a country that jails journalists for calling the Armenian genocide of the past century what it was -- a genocide. I wouldn't be surprised if this dickhead pulls some Tienanmen Square kind of shit in the near future. Because they're too busy dealing with Monsanto suing and harassing them. It's a sad reflection on the government that this question, if asked seriously, is a naive one. Be humble, ask questions, listen, learn, follow the golden rule, talk when necessary, and know when to shut the fuck up.

Agreed, this is another great documentary by Vice. I feel bad for that Sgt. Bill Steuber -- he's an honest guy trying to do the right thing and no one is listening to him other than those making the documentaries. The worst part was when the ambassador flew in for a few photo ops to make it look like a success...and refused to talk to the Sgt. What a farce. Stephen Hawking joins academic boycott of Israel
masterblaster72 replied to Darius11's topic in Speakers Corner
I think the argument is more about the land and assets that were seized from the Jews during pogroms and expulsions in the Arab world in the 20th century. Those people were then forced to move to Israel with nothing in their pockets and were in effect refugees. The argument is not so much about the scattering of Jews from Judea thousands of years ago or a sense of religious entitlement to the land. It's not the liberals who want more religion in the every day affairs of Americans. Thank you -- I've long found it ridiculous that conservatives associate American liberals with Muslim extremists. There is really no factual basis for it and it is just downright stupid. Be humble, ask questions, listen, learn, follow the golden rule, talk when necessary, and know when to shut the fuck up.

Do you know of a story as absurd as someone being locked up for four years for a few poppy seeds at US point of entry? I think the US has gone the draconian direction in the last 15 years, but I haven't heard many stories stateside that achieve this level of absurdity.
