  1. I will look into this as the Stealth user manual clearly recommends "75 prior wingsuit jumps". http://www.phoenix-fly.com/articles%20stvari/stealth_usermanual_1.pdf I presume she intends to make more jumps before her suit arrives. At the same time I have also heard of many jumpers with a handful of jumps ordering large suits from other manufacturers also. It is the same problem faced by the canopy manufacturers. Common sense is not always a given. BASEstore.it
  2. The lack of cut away system should also be considered - I told Tony in person at the last Z-Flock. BASEstore.it
  3. http://www.phoenix-fly.com/pfi.htm sorry about that! BASEstore.it
  4. You are right, it ends up as a floating grid with out fixed intersections between the horizontal / vertical lines. BASEstore.it
  5. It is a form of "algorithm" that is used for the other disciplines, satisfying a set of criteria. IMO the criteria should be demanding, a positive result should be an accurate reproduction of the dive plan, with the intended shape visible even to the layman. BASEstore.it
  6. There is mention of a 485 plane formation in WWII but I didn't find any more details yet. BASEstore.it
  7. It is worth thinking about "what is in slot?" and also what shape characteristics the viewer focuses on in an "obvious" (e.g. lodi 16) complete formation. For my eye the key features are: - a clear central axis - straight rows and columns/ obvious gaps between lines - symmetry I will have to clean up my photoshop file to post it but I had a few different ideas: - can straight lines be drawn along each row and column of the formation, the line passing over the "belly button" of each jumper. The thickness of the line can be varied for tolerance. or - can straight lines be drawn in between each row and column of the formation. The thickness of the line can be varied for tolerance. or - ensuring point to point lines along each column and row do not intersect. The thickness of the line can be varied for tolerance. I know there are obvious problems with these ideas but maybe they can spark something else off. The 1st one seems more promising, the 2nd allows for large position variance on the perimeter flyers and the 3rd suffers heavily with Yuri scatter. The rules we put in place will of course directly affect the future formation designs. BASEstore.it
  8. We'll see how things go with the rug rat Maybe share a slot with K to take turns BASEstore.it
  9. I stand corrected! I didn't look in that corner of the interweb BASEstore.it

  11. I am just smart enough to know I'm a dumbass, but I still love you Douglas. A sad fact is that I have never been part of a complete big way formation, only hundreds of incomplete formations. They have been fun, yes, but after a while you want to move forwards and work towards more concrete distinguishable goals. A record has the positive effect of bringing publicity to the sport, boosting the profile of wingsuit flying within skydiving, to attract more participants and also to give everyone a solid goal to work towards. I hate to say it but Yuri has a point, replacing "inside a 3m x 3m box" with "touching a rhombi grid" is only to the end of proving "we've done it" but not the path we should pursue for future formation attempts. 12. Chapter 27 of the The Hitch Hiker's Guide to the Galaxy: "Seventy-five thousand generations ago, our ancestors set this program in motion," the second man said, "and in all that time we will be the first to hear the computer speak." "An awesome prospect, Phouchg," agreed the first man. "We are the ones who will hear," said Phouchg, "the answer to the great question of Life ...!" "The Universe ...!" said Loonquawl. "And Everything ...!" "Shhh," said Loonquawl with a slight gesture, "I think Deep Thought is preparing to speak!" There was a moment's expectant pause whilst panels slowly came to life on the front of the console. Lights flashed on and off experimentally and settled down into a businesslike pattern. A soft low hum came from the communication channel. "Good morning," said Deep Thought at last. "Er ... Good morning, O Deep Thought," said Loonquawl nervously, "do you have ... er, that is ..." "An answer for you?" interrupted Deep Thought majestically. "Yes. I have." The two men shivered with expectancy. Their waiting had not been in vain. "There really is one?" breathed Phouchg. "There really is one," confirmed Deep Thought. "To Everything? To the great Question of Life, the Universe and Everything?" "Yes." Both of the men had been trained for this moment, their lives had been a preparation for it, they had been selected at birth as those who would witness the answer, but even so they found themselves gasping and squirming like excited children. "And you're ready to give it to us?" urged Loonquawl. "I am." "Now?" "Now," said Deep Thought. They both licked their dry lips. "Though I don't think," added Deep Thought, "that you're going to like it." "Doesn't matter!" said Phouchg. "We must know it! Now!" "Now?" inquired Deep Thought. "Yes! Now ..." "Alright," said the computer and settled into silence again. The two men fidgeted. The tension was unbearable. "You're really not going to like it," observed Deep Thought. "Tell us!" "Alright," said Deep Thought. "The Answer to the Great Question ..." "Yes ...!" "Of Life, the Universe and Everything ..." said Deep Thought. "Yes ...!" "Is ..." said Deep Thought, and paused. "Yes ...!" "Is ..." "Yes ...!!!...?" "Forty-two," said Deep Thought, with infinite majesty and calm. "Forty-two!" yelled Loonquawl. "Is that all you've got to show for seven and a half million years' work?" "I checked it very thoroughly," said the computer, "and that quite definitely is the answer. I think the problem, to be quite honest with you, is that you've never actually known what the question is." Happy holidays! BASEstore.it
  13. http://air2air.it/apocalypse.html I haven't seen the final version yet but the rushes i saw for the skiing, paragliding and speed riding were very cool
  14. Sharp learning curves can cut deep.. To put in 200 jumps is nothing in modern skydiving - are you in a hurry or something? BASEstore.it

  16. Hi Avery, I've sent you a PM. I was sent the grid photo that was in the debrief document. I am not a judge, just a curious observer. Until the organizers post the photo themselves and confirm it to be the definitive "photo" I am keeping schtum. The stand is open for the event judges / organizers.. BASEstore.it
  17. Shot from Italy earlier this year. BASEstore.it
  18. I love you too Scotty and Douglas as well. But not that Voodoo guy... BASEstore.it
  19. One of the judges has sent me a copy of "the photo", thank you. BASEstore.it
  20. DSE, your post shows the high level of emotional attachment you have to this record attempt. So turn your emotions off for a moment and reread this thread. A record has been claimed - I asked to see proof. I think I am not alone in that too. This is an internet forum, everyone has the right to claim what ever they want. Anyone else has the right to ask for proof to legitimize such claims. "I landed a wingsuit" - "I made a 80sec delay from 4000' " - "They have weapons of mass destruction"... Something unique and amazing was achieved in Elsinore - AND I would like to see the photo of it. What is wrong with the world if to ask to see proof is an "attack" or "offensive"? We just have to believe? "I was just part of a slot perfect 172 way - a new world record" Records are registered with external bodies for a reason. So the story goes, the Guinness book of records was created to stop people arguing in the pub about the "biggest" "longest" etc. I totally love the fact a 71 way formation was flown over Elsinore - BIG RESPECT to everyone involved. 21. Interesting, you turn it on me again
  22. So that is a "no". As you are still looking through all the photos. But you had a photo on the day of the "record" that was used to judge the formation complete - but you still can't post that online because ......? For the future big way attempts in 2009/10 - what size formation needs to be flown and what criteria need to be met to take the wingsuit discipline further? BASEstore.it
