I have made the mods work a little in the past. Whether we like it or not we need them to prevent the forum turning in to a biatch insult fest, interspersed with Viagra ads and investment opportunities in the Republic of Congo. For post vs jump numbers, quality counts too - that would make an interesting show and tell. Yeyo, I have Bird-Man jeans, a fly your body t-shirt, and have finally realized that pacifism is the way to wingsuit nirvana. The "warz" is just like pissing in your own swimming pool, tastes salty, smells bad and the chicks don't wanna come in.. BASEstore.it

Taking this beautiful ground shot as an example of an attempt on the largest formation to date, vote of hands - complete formation or not? BASEstore.it

reply] The definition does need to be addressed and some parameters set. It will be based though on proximity and "look" All great stuff, keep it coming! Jeff is aiming for everyone flying within 1m of their predefined slot at Elsinore. BASEstore.it

WE are missing something kind of fundamental here. If WE want to become officially recognized WE have to work for it. Organizing events at our national championships in as many countries as possible. WE have to show that the discipline has matured, with a significant number of skilled participants and competition formats that are feasible. Recognition will take a few years of work, attending meetings, draftings rules, working on competition formats etc etc. My vote, lets move on from "200 jumps, put on a big suit, legs bent, big disorganized cloud in the sky- woo hoo - great fun" How about WE agree on a "draft" formation definition that we all apply from now on. A definition of a completed formation will at least give us some starting point, to help avoid the eventual bickering and confusion that will occur about which formation is the current (un-official) largest to date. i.e. the Lodi 16 way doesn't count cus they didn't fly it for 3 seconds... OR the Cochstedt 45 way doesn't count because it wasn't slot specific... OR the Elsinore 71 way doesn't count because not everyone was within 1m of their defined slot OR the Stroop wafel 100 way doesn't count because they all just lay down on the grass and ate stroop wafels... Flocking is fun for sure but maybe we should also try some of that formation flying too? BASEstore.it

If we want the wing suit discipline to move forward, then official recognition is part of the solution (as for all the other skydiving disciplines). At the moment there is not even a working definition of what a completed formation is! What does that matter? OK, i claim to have been part of the official world record breaking largest wing suit formation ever, the 69 way from Cochstedt 2006. BASEstore.it

And if you believe me that makes it official?

I just went outside my house and ran 100m in 5 seconds! I am a world record holder! BASEstore.it

Corrected it for you. A record can only be ratified by an external body. No one recognizes wing suit flying so both events are about pushing the bar for the discipline as a whole. Only an "un-official" record can be claimed. Period. IMO we are no way near the level for a 71 way formation and that is my honest opinion after attending most of the large wingsuit events for the past 4 years. But that being said, it is important to move forward and try for bigger and bigger formations. 35-45 may be doable with the right pilots / formation / leadership. Good luck to both events, may they be successful and more importantly safe. J BASEstore.it

Nah, thats not what I meant. More an observation that the results show the discipline still has lots of growth potential. (in terms of suit design and pilot skill) BASEstore.it -

Sounds like a great event, I was just a little jealous not to be there. Cool that dark horses Lutz and Tony unexpectedly took the top places. Shows that next years competition results can be even better, 80secs+? -
But seriously which organization will make the record "official"? FAI? Guinness? BASEstore.it

Wingsuit shrivel flap - installation and usage

Relevant post for those thinking of / using wingsuit PC leg pouch. http://www.basejumper.com/cgi-bin/forum/gforum.cgi?post=2891270;sb=post_latest_reply;so=ASC;forum_view=forum_view_collapsed;;page=unread#unread In recent years there have been some ugly premature deployments from the plane, so think carefully about using the leg pouch for: - flocks or group jumps - floater or high speed exits - when back flying or doing acrobatics The plane is the obvious way to convert deployment methods if you are heading to the mountains, but IMO better to only use the leg pouch when on your front and by yourself.
