We have all seen gps data of suits achieving verly low vertical speeds after a flair (5mph or less). Combine this low freefall speed with a strong thermal = positive climb rate. No black magic at work. What we need now is to work out a way to do this in the performance comps, more evidence in a controlled environment needed. It's of limited use to the 'landers' though, you still wouldn't want to put your feet down :) BASEstore.it

Like Jeb says, it is one thing to post on the forum, another to meet face to face and share a flight together. http://www.dropzone.com/cgi-bin/forum/gforum.cgi?post=4107904#4107904 Shame you went home today Luke, Jeb arrives tomorrow. You're much nicer in person

Perris WS locals - favour needed this weekend
unclecharlie95 replied to unclecharlie95's topic in Wing Suit Flying
Hi, are there any Perris WS locals out there? A friend of mine is coming over to Perris at the weekend (visiting from the UK) BUT is without his rig (weight reasons). The DZ will hire out gear but it is not allowed to be used for WS :( SO is there anyone who would be willing to help out a fellow WSer in need with a suitable rig for a few jumps? (paid with $$ or beer your call) The guy is solid, has about 50 wingsuit jumps. Light build, 5'11" 150lbs. Anything square and bigger than a 120 would be perfect. PM or email me if you can help: james.boole@gmail.com Thank you! J BASEstore.it -

Success! Just in case someone else wants to give it a try, this is the method I used: 1. Flysight GPS for data acquisition. http://www.flysight.ca 2. Import .csv file from the Flysight in to Paralog. http://www.paralog.net/ 3. Export the data from Paralog as a .ssa subtitle track, you can customize the data displayed using these commands http://www.paralog.net/help/ExportCommands.htm Attached is the template I used as an example. The templates are located in the Paralog folder (example path: C:\Documents and Settings\jb\Paralog\templates\subtitles) 3a. The appearance of the subtitles can be further customized using the commands found here: http://www.paralog.net/files/SubTitler/SubTitler.txt 4. You'll need to download VirtualDub http://www.virtualdub.org/ and the Subtitler plugin http://www.virtualdub.org/virtualdub_filters 5. Open your video in virtualdub add the subtitle filter and select your .ssa subtitle - export and job done! 5a. You'll probably need to either tweak the in point of your video or the start of your subtitles to get the two to sink. Thank you to Klaus at Paralog for his fast and complete customer support (as always). Example video to follow - as soon as I make a flight worth all the effort BASEstore.it

Hahaha, you seem to be following the DorkZoneHero rules for posting

Thanks for the replies guys, I will try the various ideas out over the weekend and let you know how it goes. BASEstore.it

So I thought I would have a go at overlaying GPS data on a video. At the moment I am stuck converting my Flysight .csv into a .gpx that gpx2srt.exe can read. I have used Paralog to export to .gpx (nice

Erm, well i guess that is tongue in cheek too - Mulder and Scully style - I have access to files that prove it and have sent them to likiweaks. Props to Andreas for the tunnel testing, IMO it's the future (like Jyro did with Icarus) - we just need to find the $$ to pay for the tunnel time. The new suits are another step forward in glide ratio and also start flying faster, the performance comps and BASE jumps to date show that. Flocking performance is another discussion all together... It was a tongue in cheek observation but in terms of market share describes the situation quite accurately. For tit for tat who made this and that - who cares, time we all put our suits on and go jump, time for the animosity to go out of fashion. BASEstore.it
-
and don't forget Julian Boulle and the Sugar Glider before that If it wasn't for PF we would all still be jumping the S3. If it wasn't for Tony we would all still be jumping the V3. Competition drives things forward and enables us all to fly better

A story: CX6 falls off helmet - broken housing
unclecharlie95 replied to unclecharlie95's topic in Photography and Video
My wife lost her Sony CX6 when the fixing bolt failed during deployment and the camera fell 600 feet or so into dense forest. (it was during a BASE jump) This was 5 months ago. A couple of weeks back a friend of mine from Rome called me - a long story short - he has a sponsor and jumps with a logo'd wingsuit. The sponsor received a phone call from a guy called Aldo who was out picking mushrooms and found a video camera. Aldo found the camera, dried it out and took out the memory card. He didn't manage to watch the videos but found some photos showing the sponsors logo and after a few phone calls he managed to track us down. We met up with him to express our thanks at his efforts but having already written off the camera, 4+ months outdoors... at least we'd have the memory card back. We charged the camera up out of curiosity and turned it on - it made some very strange noises and then started to work normally :) The replacement CX115 will be in a box BASEstore.it -
Article on landing wingsuit w/o parachute
unclecharlie95 replied to gottabefunky's topic in Wing Suit Flying
Landing on an inclined surface will be a precursor to landing on flat terrain. Jeb wants to take things to the next level, good on him. (talking about this gives me back ache..) We share the same dream: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6KaKANQaB1k BASEstore.it -

The guys and gals who took part in the XRW 2 project did some mighty nice flying, for some reason it seemed to slip by this forum (and the flylikebrick page) Check it out: http://vimeo.com/15776958 oh and post less & jump more BASEstore.it
