URGENT....Apache owners, discontinue use of new handles
unclecharlie95 replied to Tony-tonysuits's topic in Wing Suit Flying
Tony is working with the main US rig manufacturers on a TSO friendly system to allow BASE jumpers to practice with the Apache(and other new suits) from the plane. The handles were obvioulsy not the solution and have rightly been discontinued. They worked fine on my Javelin: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=r51qYlLq-gs BASEstore.it -

Canopy Pilots vs Wingsuit Pilots
unclecharlie95 replied to unclecharlie95's topic in Wing Suit Flying
A comparison: Canopy pilots have a forum where people discuss technique, progression and new technology. Wingsuit pilots have a forum where they argue about which brand suit is better. ________________________________________ Canopy pilots have mutual respect for one another and judge a person on their skills not the canopy they use. Wingsuit pilots argue with each other about the brand of suit they wear. ________________________________________ Canopy pilots have role models like JT, JayMo and NickB to look up to. Wingsuit pilots argue about which brand of suit is better. ________________________________________ Canopy pilots spend hundreds and thousands of jumps practicing to hone their technique before claiming proficiency. Wingsuit pilots spend dozens jumps practicing on one suit before claiming proficiency. ________________________________________ Canopy pilots compete in official competitions with huge cash prizes. Wingsuit pilots compete in competitions for t-shirts and discount vouchers. ________________________________________ Canopy pilots wear cool clothes and sun glasses and people talk to them in the bar. Wingsuit pilots use the WiFi in the bar to argue on the internet. ________________________________________ It used to be said a lot, but seems to have been forgotten - it is the pilot that counts at the end of the day, not the suit. I'm going to take up swooping.. (and yes, I used to be part of the problem but I try not to waste time arguing anymore, better use the time we have to fly - think about it before you hit 'Post Message') BASEstore.it -

US Performance Competition - Acro Invitational (November 2011)
unclecharlie95 replied to mccordia's topic in Wing Suit Flying
For a minute there I thought this thread was going to be a shining example of the users of this forum putting past differences aside to work together to solve a problem. Alas, no, that is obviously not what people want. BASEstore.it -

Looks like this site should be checked before all future events - else we'll have to do an illegal night flock demo jump into the MZ to take out the jamming hardware (Lurch knows how!) Does something similar exist for Europe? BASEstore.it -

After doing a Radius measurement from China Lake to Lake Elsinore... it is only 23 NM outside of the testing range. What do you think LouD? BASEstore.it -
US Performance Competition - Acro Invitational (November 2011)
unclecharlie95 replied to mccordia's topic in Wing Suit Flying
The Flysights have been used at numerous European competitions without issue, as far as i know being in the US shouldn't change anything (unless there is a military facility in the vicinity of Elsinore?) What exactly were the problems / errors encountered? Spiky data? Between Michael, LukeH, Klaus, Kallend, LouD and all the other techies that read this forum we should be able to sort it out for the sake of the next US event. DSE could you post one of the faulty .csv files? (as this shows the # of satellites, accuracy etc) BASEstore.it -

Sounds like you did a stunning job regardless of the weather and tech problems. -

Interesting you make this distinction as heavier pilots have an advantage in the speed round. But I see the sense in requiring less jump tickets to compete etc. Have fun everyone, it looks like there will be a great turn out :) BASEstore.it -
I've had a play with the beta, using tone for horizontal speed and rate for vertical speed. Fast low beep = Slow high beep =

For some reason it has not been publicised BUT a guy has already done "better" - he did not deploy and survived. He flew into the tree line and walked away with a minor stomach injury. Heal fast Christopher. BASEstore.it

The beta sounds interesting

Jeb just did a cool stunt and got some positive global attention for wingsuit flying, good news IMO. https://www.facebook.com/photo.php?fbid=10150311101501919&set=a.10150160374116919.287620.50043151918&type=1&theater BASEstore.it

Nice flying! -
Pocket!? The whole wing is for storage, 2 fold away walking poles, gloves, survival blanket, 30m of climbing rope, harness, water, GPS, sun glasses, rain jacket and food

1st class flying and 1st class camera work - awesomeness without the need for editing
-
So, in conclusion wingsuits can fly up!

if your wing flew faster it would have a lower sink speed, hence thermal lift would mean positive climb rate. If you fly a suit next to a cliff on day with gradient and some nice dynamic you feel and see what is happening - all good stuff, but not worth wearing a vario yet. BASEstore.it
