  1. hope the man in black will see sense.. BASEstore.it
  2. nah, it didn't have the "S.U.I.T" embroidery, they're the same thing though
  3. Despite working for "the competition" I was still sad to hear the news, bringing back memories of my original Classic with Vampire bat birdman logo. My Classic is still taking newbies into the air in Spain, built like a tank
  4. You can also use Photoshop. Take a front view photo of the suit with a ruler in view, cut out or green screen the background. "Analysis" set the scale using the visible ruler, highlight the suit, measure area, job done :) BASEstore.it
  5. my old PC120 has mic input :) BASEstore.it
  6. I wouldn't have expected such a response from a guy who made their own wingsuit based on a leather jacket I know the guy who created this setup and have jumped similar "rhino" setups to get interesting footage. Its not for everyone granted, but real time (or near real time) data is extremely useful for dialing in body position and for manufacturer test pilots. You just* need to be aware during deployment. *use nylon bolts BASEstore.it
  7. *Disclaimer: Your ego may get dented when you realise how badly you speak French and fly a wingsuit (from personal experience) BASEstore.it
  8. If you are interested in seeing what we are talking about go to Gap and put on an expert. (you mai find yu ztart speeking wiz a foony accant tho ;) BASEstore.it
  9. I agree with Herwig and co., there are some siginificant piloting differences with a monowing (i.e. S-Fly Expert) - particularly with control input using the hips. BASEstore.it
  10. The forum had been dead for a long time
  11. I know Adrian used an Airtec data logger for recording the freefall time - but how did he measure the horizontal distance? If that is the record to beat it also sets the precedent for the measurement system.. BASEstore.it
  12. Looks like all posts are checked before being made public.. Material is too generic, a wingsuit IMO is made from a "flexible" fabric. The tracking suit one is tricky, i added something about the fabric being stretched between the torso and arms/legs but this does not exclude all TSs out there. For that maybe we need to specify a minimum surface area (height dependent)? BASEstore.it
  13. I'm happy to say I do see progress, despite all the play ground screaming
  14. You may not like the packaging - but Yuri does have a point. Imagine Patrick up on his cloud looking down on us all. First off he would be incredibly happy to see how wingsuit flying has grown from a handful of jumpers to thousands! Look at the flights being performed, 7 minute freefalls, 11 miles+ distance, 3 minute BASE jumps, incredible terrain flying, performance competitions, races and even freestyle. The suit designs have come on leaps and bounds, the construction, materials, inlets, pressurization and cut away systems. "and LOOK at the size of the wings on that thing and there are so many of them flying together! But why are they all flying with their legs bent?" BASEstore.it
  15. I was asked to come up with criteria for an unofficial Italian formation record attempt earlier this year. I used: ____________________________________ Pre-declare the formation layout, number of slots and position of each flyer. The layout must have a central axis and be symmetrical. Take photo of the formation from directly on top. The photo should clearly show the pre-declared layout at first glance. With: - a clear central axis - straight rows and columns/ obvious gaps between lines - symmetry To judge the formation the photo should be examined in photoshop: - can straight lines be drawn along each row and column of the formation, the line passing over each jumper. - can straight lines be drawn in between each row and column of the formation. - cutting the photo in half down the central axis, and reflecting the right side on top the left all the flyers should overlap. ______________________________ Agreed, this solution offers only a small tolerance for formation "scatter" but IMO formation attempts should be about quality not quantity. There are some good ideas emerging in this thread. BASEstore.it
  16. http://www.phoenix-fly.com/news.htm#probase09 Congrats to Luka, Harry and Ludo. BASEstore.it
  17. Congrats to Luka, Harry and Ludo! (Luka was jumping a V3 for those interested.) BASEstore.it
  18. Perhaps of interest to some of this forums readers, video from the winning team of this years Wingsuit Competition held in Terni, Italy. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jNEQcIlcrH4 BASEstore.it
  19. Forgot to add, thank you Christian for the cash prize. This was split between the International and National winners - as well as something for the team with the best "blooper" - Tony suits BASEstore.it
  20. I have played with a similar setup using a pen cam but never got round to jumping it. Try it out the car window and from the plane first. It is snag tastic so I would recommend a weak attachment to your arm (break chord?) BASEstore.it
  21. It was an event that had it all; smiles, laughter, tears, donkeys, stroop wafels and blood.. I am happy to say the flying moved up a level from last year, helped by the new style points which encourage more efficient flying. Team FLB were on fire, winning all 5 rounds thanks to a solid team effort. Jarno and Alex busting out points with Costyn providing excellent video. The Frenchies showed the best flying style during the event (Loic and Zuns influence visible). Keeping solid body positions and turning using hips / shoulders. If these guys keep flying together watch out! Tony suits put in a solid effort and together with Tristans video put up good scores for each round. The local Italian teams deserve the biggest applause as many had very little WS experience, attempting the various maneuvers for the first time during the event, learning lots and having fun. Giovanni, Dyames and the ZOO DZ were excellent hosts and have already invited the competition back for 2010
  22. In the 2005 and 2006 BJ Alexander and some others organised the World Wingsuit Competition in Stupino Russia. The Stupino DZ held the event again in 2007 but the DZ closed in 2008. The competition format was similar to the current performance competitions, with disciplines for time and distance. BASEstore.it
  23. Technical problems slowed down the judging today, points are now up for most teams, there are 2 more teams to finish off in the morning. Great event so far and even time for some flocking too :) BASEstore.it
  24. Greetings from Terni DZ (aka the Zoo) Some of the teams have started jumping already, completing the first 2 rounds. There are still another 3 or 4 teams to join. Provisional scores and rankings are already online here http://www.wingsuitcompetition.com/scores/index.php BASEstore.it
  25. A special thank you to those who sent gifts - this one especially.. BASEstore.it
