Jumpstart Boogie * Skydive Iowa
JustChuteMeNow replied to Skydivesg's topic in Events & Places to Jump
I had a great time at the boogie last year and I will definitely be there. All the girls(except Jeni) need to be thinking about getting us extra altitude again this year. -
One of the best sites to learn the formations and how to set up the exits for those formations is on the team fastrax website. Like the other poster said if you can form a team and go to NSL meets, people are really helpful about showing techniques for smoother 4-way. Airspeed has some good articles on 4-way as well that can be downloaded. Good luck. 4-way is a blast. My daughter is competing on a 4-way team for the first time this year too. When I read that article in Parachutists about Tom, it made me appreciate his time and efforts in the sport. Vibes certainly go out to him and his family. Think of how stupid the average person is and realize that statistically half of them are stupider than that.

I have also seen the TSA ASSHATS in prime form. In this instance with the piercing, it is just another example of power tripping by said ASSHATS. What infuriates me as much as anything when I hear of this type of abuse is when the supervisor supports the unreasonable action. Hey on the bright side at least the didn't tase her.

Riggers -how to dispose of old gear?
JustChuteMeNow replied to thehardhat's topic in Gear and Rigging
If it is TSOed the sticker needs to be removed. If the sticker stays on then any master rigger could in theory repair and or modify the rig and jump it or sell it. This assumes that you would care to protect the said manufacturer of the equipment. Think of how stupid the average person is and realize that statistically half of them are stupider than that. -
I have used the LED with the Mamba bonehead. All I did was route the LED through the hole I use for the audible and I used super tack hold it in place. I haven't had any problems and I tacked it to the liner near my right eye. Think of how stupid the average person is and realize that statistically half of them are stupider than that.

Does her bra really give those man boobies an extra lift? Dead sexy I'll bet.

Well I don't think it was unethical because the DZO was up front with his plans and it is not unethical to try to make a profit. Do I think the DZO was acting in the best interest of the student? No I don't or the DZO would have steered the student to the rig. However, ethics implies a moral duty and to me there is no moral duty here for the DZO especially if the DZO sells and buys used gear for profit. Put another way if the same student buyer wanted to purchase your rig directly are you morally obligated to tell him of better deals on similar equipment elsewhere if you know about them. I think you did the right thing by turning down the offer and cutting out the middle man. You got your asking price and thats great. I have always used bleach and that works great. Put it in the thermos and let it sit on the stains for a few seconds and the stains disappear. Magic!!!! Think of how stupid the average person is and realize that statistically half of them are stupider than that.

How much are you paying for your reserve repacks?
JustChuteMeNow replied to BillyVance's topic in Gear and Rigging
Me nothing and the repacks are great. -
Losing a family pet is really hard and I have also shed some tears. I think it is that unconditional love that they give that always touches me. Hopefully the memories will still make you smile. I think the community is still alive and well and while it does have its share of drama due to some posters that like to stir the pot. For the most part the site is still a good place to connect with other skydivers. This site allows me to make some pretty positive connections with people so that when I do travel I can generally find a friendly face. Following the same logic there are people that use these forums that I will never try to meet. FWIW Jay due to your positive vibes I hope to cross paths with you at some point and do a jump or two. My daughter had several brisk openings with a sabre 135 and she cracked some of her vertabraes. She was a new jumper and she wasn't letting anybody know of her discomfort until she could barely stand after trying to pack up her canopy. She was out of the sport for about 6 weeks. On the plus side we installed a pocket slider and this corrected the issue. Her openings are now very mild and she has about 200 jumps on that canopy. I remember packing my first ZP canopy and it won many times before I got really proficient at it. Like another poster said, learn how to control the canopy with your arms, knees, legs, etc so that at each step of the process you have absolute control. Seek out really good packers to help you learn these control points. Keep at it and good luck. 800' Cypes Fire & Damaged Cutter Unit
JustChuteMeNow replied to Unstable's topic in Gear and Rigging
FWIW when I pack a reserve I don't recall ever putting pressure on that area of the cypress unit. The torgue usually happens around the cutter since that is where the loop goes through the unit. Of couse this assumes that the cypress hole lines up with the grommet in the rig. If the holes didn't line up then perhaps it could create enough torque to damage the cypress although I haven't ever seen this scenario. For that to happen the hole would have to be really offset from the grommet and a closing tool would have to be used to really provide some force. Based on such a hard closing force I would hope that the rigger would recognize a problem. MILITARY VETERAN SKYDIVERS
JustChuteMeNow replied to KERBERJR's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
That would be a good trick if you can do it but I'm pretty sure that the school would have to be accredited and I don't think skydiving schools usually have this ticket punched. However, I really don't know for sure. Good luck working the system if it is possible. Think of how stupid the average person is and realize that statistically half of them are stupider than that. -
Hello and welcome to the sport. As far as a rig goes, keep in mind that if you try and purchase a used rig that body shapes for a person that is 5'11 and 205 pounds vary widely. Make sure that you try on the rig before committing to purchasing it. It is a fun sport and I'm glad that you are enjoying it. Are the MODS pissed at the "Caption the Avatar above you" thread?

The cost of assembling my new gear.
JustChuteMeNow replied to skytramp2's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
I'm not sure but I got the impression that the gear store tacked on a charge to assemble his rig and that the charge was larger than what they normally charge to assemble a rig for someone coming in off the street. If that is the case I would also be a little ticked. Think of how stupid the average person is and realize that statistically half of them are stupider than that. -
Bill Dause is under the chopping block!!
JustChuteMeNow replied to ts1962's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
Come on. This is America. People are not responsible for their own actions no matter how stupid they are. Every lawyer knows this truth. There are no excuses. Everything in society has to be idiot proof and allowing idiots to find new and innovative ways of hurting themselves is no defense. Even when people get hurt by ignoring safety rules and conventional wisdom. It is not their fault. However, don't take my word for it. Ask any lawyer. Think of how stupid the average person is and realize that statistically half of them are stupider than that. -
I don't know the Kirlins even though I may have been to boogies where they were at but shit like this is just plain wrong. When some slick willie lawyer/judge uses an obscure outdated law to legally steal someone elses property then justice is mot being served. At one time the Jim Crow laws made it illegal for blacks to vote but that didn't make it right and just. Some laws are just plain fucked up and granting a couple the legal right to steal a neighbors property is one of them. I'm sorry JP I just couldn't resist when I saw the direction this thread was taking.
