Another traveling with your rig question
Dumpster replied to Brisco's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
One of the guys on my four-way team did a bunch of travelling out west this summer, and the first leg of the trip put it in a carry-on. Got a thorough search and lots of questions. After that he just carried on his shoulder, and had no problems whatsoever, for the next 4-5 flights until he returned to Chicago. But it still seems like the luck of the draw to travel withour hassles. Easy Does It -
We as skydivers share many of the same motivating factors, and some are our own exclusively. My main motivating factors are belonging to a special group, the sheer enjoyment of what we do, the special bond we share, and the "Wow, I could never do that!" reaction I get when I tell people what I do for fun. I love that any of us can travel to any DZ in the world and most always be greeted by total strangers like we've known them all our lives. And it doesn't matter who you are, where your from, how much money you make, what you do for a living, sexual orientation, skin color - nothing. Once you walk onto a DZ, we're all skydivers, and that's all that matters. We belong to a very special family. We all understand all of this, so it's very frustrating when you try to explain it to others and you get a blank stare. Anymore, when I get the "what's it like" question, I just tell them it's impossible to explain. You must experience it to understand. Then I get the roll of the eyes, and so on. I just smile, and sort of feel sorry for the person who'll never know. But it sometimes bugs me when I go to the DZ, and shut my phone off, then get flak the next day at work because some one was trying to call me and I didn't answer. Y'know what? I just don't care! You want me to call you when you're making love? Easy Does It

Most cash I've ever had in hand, that was mine, has been about $23,000.00. And it wasn't earmarked for anthing - Just put it in the bank and paid bills. That was several years before I started jumping, though. Easy Does It

Learn to pack as soon as you can - Then when you get that new-to-you rig, you can spread it out all over you living room floor practice packing it. The more you pack, the quicker you will get, and you'll discover your own little tricks and techniques to get that sucker in the bag in no time. What I can't understand is people (reletive newbies) that will miss loads because they're waiting for some one to pack for them, because they never learned to pack or never took time to practice, then when they do actually pack for themselves it takes them two hours and they're lucky it doesn't mal. I've met people with almost 100 jumps that never learned to pack for themselves. Don't be one of those! Easy Does It

Haven't slept with any exes recently, in spite of having the opportunity on several occasions. But I have in the past - "breakup sex" has been some of the best I've ever had. Or even better, running into a certain some one several months or even a year later, and falling madly in bed with each other. Schweet!!! Easy Does It

Sat in on 1 first jump course in preparation for the Coach rating course - 1 Dozen oysters and two tasty scotches consumed Saturday night - Followed by a bunch of lobster and shrimp, then a bunch of rum-n-cokes at the Alumni Club. - Double Bonus, it was School Girl Night! So there were lots of Catholic schoolgirls running around the bar, and on stage, and all over the place. I was fortunate to have a room booked at the hotel, so no need to drive home with a monster buzz going. No jumping, but a fun weekend nonetheless! Easy Does It

where any of you band geeks in high school?
Dumpster replied to futurehighflyer's topic in The Bonfire
I played electric bass and drums in the jazz band, marching band, and concert band, Playing electric bass in the maching band was the most fun. We'd party our asses off after the performances. Easy Does It -
Took me long enough to post!!! 0:7:1 Seven great jumps - The first four were in the final meet of the MWSL - We scored a total of 25 points minus one bust for a grip. We averaged 6 points per jumps - Not bad for a bunch of rookies! Everyone is asking/telling us we should keep this same team together for next year. We absoutely ROCKED! Took the bronze! Three very cool fun jumps followed, and I bought beer for taking out the formation on a 10-way speed star Paperwork is in for my D license! I'll be working toward my Coach rating now, too. got the FJC syllabus and will begin practice teaching my daughter this week. Also, my son (12) Esau, who currently resides with his Mom in Alaska, may be coming to live with me! I'll have two of my three kids here!! WOOHOO! The oldest is out on her own now, in New York. It's gonna be a hell of a week! Easy Does It

Don't think this will contribute much, but out C-182 was two-blade until we put a new turbocharged engine in this spring, and a three-blade prop tp go with it. Climbs like a bandit now. But I don't know that a three-blade prop alone would do anything significant, seems to me you need the power to get the prop to do it's thing. (Early 60's vintage.) Easy Does It

My guess is a P-51, modified for pylon racing. Easy Does It

I think this guy took stupid a notch higher, but not to the ultimate level. A few years ago the wife and I decided to go on a little road trip on the Sporty, and stopped at a hotel for the night. We check in, unload the bike, and walked across the street to have a few drinks and grab a bite. Several hours later, (like, well past 1:00 AM) We head back to our room to find some guy in shorts and a t-shirt, no shoes, no wallet, no nothing, looking totally screwed up, poking around the battery on the bike. I go into my "cool" mode and ask him, "Can I help you?" He replies, "Oh, man, I lost the key to my bike here and I'm trying to figure out how to get it started." I ask him - "You mean, MY BIKE????" Dude turned white as a ghost and now Sharon is holding me back - He's still sitting on the ground next to the bike and I'm ready to kick him in the teeth with a size 9 combat boot. (Steel toe and nice, thick stiff sole-) She calmed me down and I "escorted" him out of the area - I watched him scamper off down the middle of the street, and almost immediately was "pulled over" by the local police. Last I saw he was being loaded in the car. WTF, man? Easy Does It

Whiskey. Good whiskey. Absolutely nothing better to cure what ails you. 2-3 shots, throw an extra cover on the bed, and sweat it out. Don't forget I'm a WNY veteran of those long cold winters! (Southern Tier, Allegany County!) Easy Does It

Yes we will! And we'll be kicking ass at the meet! We started turning eight points on practice dives today! (With a funneled exit no less!) I'll pass the love and wishes on to everyone! Easy Does It

We're currently using FXCs and Cypres on our student rigs. As our older gear is retired, it is being replaced with rigs equipped with Cypres AADs. As far as FXCs go, my ass was saved by one during one of my early dives. I think the FXC is still being manufactured, can't say anything for Sentinals. As an aside, some of our transistion rigs are using Sabre2s. The results have been very good. Easy Does It

I screwed up when I posted this before - Sky Knights 40th B-Day Party will be THIS weekend, with lots of fun for all, we'll have an Otter here from Skydive Chicago, and a bash Saturday night. Commemorative T-Shirts will be on sale!! We'll need lots of bonfire wood! Also, the 5th and final MWSL meet will be here, too! Yours Truly will be flailing with the best of 'em! (Last weekend was supposed to be the Wisconsin state record attempts, but the weather was crappy all weekend and we had to send the Casa away - ) www.skydiveskyknights.com Come celebrate with us! The forecast is for blue skies! C-Ya There!! Easy Does It

#10 - Gives me yet another reason to leave work early on a nice day. #9 - It bores my co-workers to death when I talk about it, so they leave me the hell alone! #8 - Gives me something exciting to say when folks ask "How was your weekend?" #7 - It gives me a reason to get up at 6:00 AM on a Saturday. #6 - It really pisses my wife off when I talk about 4-ways with other women. #5 - The skydiver's vocabulary is so full of sexual innuendo. #4 - It triggers some of the same emotions as hot sex does. #3 - It makes me horny. (Like we need a hormone boost, really -) #2 - Hot chicks willingingly spread thier legs so I can sit between them! And last but not least - #1 Reason I skydive - It's the most fun you could ever have with your pants on! (And clothing is an option!) Easy Does It

Congrats! The fun has just begun! Seems like just yesterday I was completing my S/L progression, and just this past Saturday I submitted my paperwork for my D license. Oh, The places you'll go! Easy Does It

0:0:0 Suckass weather, so we sent the Casa away, and spent the rest of the late afternoon and evening doing the most sensible thing - drinking. I also did some constructive things and ordered my IRM and finished filling out the paperwork for my D license, which will be getting faxed in Monday. Hopefully by the end of the year I'll have my Coach rating, too, and I'll have met two more personal goals for the year. Partied most of the night Saturday, wound up at a local hotel in the whirlpool with eight other jumpers and some rather confused tourists, then crashed at a friends' house. I've needed a night like that for a long time! Easy Does It

To Continue or Not to Continue???
Dumpster replied to mofo554's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
Complete your AFF as quickly as possible -- You will benefit in many ways. Cold weather? As long as your DZ can get a plane up, jump it. Cold weather jumps build character, and are alot of fun, even if it's just hop-n-pops. Just like hunting, snowmobiling, etc- you have to dress for it. It's not that hard, either. Bottom line - CONTINUE! Easy Does It -
Sky Knights 40th anniversary!!!!! Casa!!!

I would like to see a forum for....
Dumpster replied to sangiro's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
Speed skydiving seems to be fairly popular in Europe but not here in the US - Maybe a forum for it would stir up some activity? I haven't met anyone who does it at all, and wouldn't want to try it without some training. Easy Does It -
