I saw the show in Chicago about three years ago - I've been wanting to go see it again - You just can't explain it - The only people you can talk to about it are folks that have seen it - Much like skydiving! Easy Does It

Can you jump higher than the plane ??
Dumpster replied to lazyfrog's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
Looks like the first one is from a belly-up plane, and the second - Do Casas / Skyvans have a hatch on the backbone somewhere, or did the jumpers ride up on the backbone? Easy Does It -
1,400+ miles driven :0:0 Drove out to NY and back, to pick up the rest of Sarah's stuff (my 16 year old, who is now living with me full-time!) Checked out my 18 year old daughter Liz' place, which isn't to shabby for a first place of her own, well, actually she and her girl friend. Kind of stressful trip, the ex-wife and my 11 year-old son are selling most everything, packing up and moving to Alaska. ( Achorage-) Gives me a good excuse to go! Kind af a tearful good-bye- Next time I see the young man he will be nearly a year older. I promised to keep calling every Sunday, just like I always have. Now more than ever I need to...... At my workplace, it's gotten to the point new employees are warned not to bring the subject up, I'll talk them to death once I get started. But I have had a few people seek me out to ask questions - which is kinda cool - Easy Does It

I like to hook them up to an ignition coil myself - I've also said there's "people who want to do it, and people who WILL do it - which one are you?" sort of things - I get mixed reactions on that one - Easy Does It

How long did it take you to decide on a career?
Dumpster replied to SkydiveNFlorida's topic in The Bonfire
I've been pulling wrenches and chasing wires ever since I was old enough to hold a screwdriver in my hand. While all my buddies were off playing football and baseball, I was building chopped bicycles, jumping ramps, and working on mini-bikes and go-carts. I rebuilt my first lawnmower engine (with help from Dad-) at the tender age of eight. I already understood the difference between two-and four-stroke engines, carbs, deisel engines. Learned how to drive a nail before I was in first grade. Understood electricity and motors by the age of 10. - the rest goes on--- Here's a peice of advice I got from an old country doctor - I was in the doc's office, being treated for an injury sustained while working at the local steel foundry. Doc Kolisch patched me up and asked me "Lenny, Do you like what you're doing for a living?" "Not only no, but fuck no, Doc." Doc says, "Quit that fucking death trap and do what you want to do." This came from an old country doctor who did nothing else but live the Hippcratic oath to the letter. A doctor who loved what he did, and did nothing else. He didn't care if you could pay or not. When I had no insurance, he asked me how much cash I had. "Twenty bucks, Doc" " I'll split it with ya, and we'll call it good?" he says. It was agreed. The next day the the foundry was short one rat (me) And I was raising my right hand to join the Air Force. I wasn't sure what I would be doing, but I was gauranteed I would be pulling wrenches. To make a long story short, I still pull wrenches and chase wires, at the age of 40. I love what I do. I have three techs under me and $25 million in equipment we take care of. Coming to work in the morning is like going to Shop class high school. Do you like what you do? Easy Does It -
You may want to consider psychopacking it, but have some one experienced do it with you the first time or two - there are one or two tricks to it. But it is an easy way to handle snot-slick ZP and get nice openings, quite reliably. And it's FAST, too. Easy Does It

0:4:1 Four team practice jumps, three with free-flown exits that came together REALLY easy, Sweet flying, Guys! Jumped my daughter Sarah's first all-by-herself packjob! Nice opening! She made 15 bucks packing for me Sunday. Her openings are better than mine, too. I think I'll keep her on the payroll. Easy Does It

There's a certain "vibe" I think, that goes with jumping a Cessna. Once in a while I'll do a hanging exit, off the lift strut, like an S/L student. Our rules would say one case - btw- Easy Does It

People who steal canopies should be treated like horse theives in the Old West. Isn't horse theft still punsihable by hanging in some places? Easy Does It

Winds are probably the biggest reason I've scratched from loads. Steady winds up to about 20 I'm OK with, but much more than that, I'll wait. We have a few terrain features that can make things interesting close to the ground. Very gusty winds make me nervous, and I'll sit out until things settle down. If I get to the DZ and I'm unsure, I will watch a load or two, and how people are handling the conditions, before I decide it's OK for me. I've gone to the DZ and have had people push me to hurry up and gear up, the plane is on a 5-minute call, etc - While I feel flattered that people are eager to jump with me, I need some time to get myself ready, check my stuff, and get my head in the right frame of mind. I have ridden the plane down in a situation where we had a storm front come in really fast - The ride down was challenging even for the pilot - I am very glad I stayed on board. (We all did-) If the winds are much over 20, and/or very gusty, I will definitely sit out. Easy Does It

During certain, really intense solar/geomagnetic events, particularly during the winter months, you can see them in some lattitudes much further south than normal. I've seen them as far south as New York state. My first experience was while I was stationed in Iceland. Got my ears good and frostbit I was so mesmerised by them, but it wasn't the best show. Later on that winter, I was riding brakes in an F-4 on our way back from an engine run out on the trim pad. It was around 11:00 at night- and the whole sky lit up like nothing you could ever imagine. I had a great seat- No lights or anything to ruin the show, and I was protected from the weather. You have to see them in person to really apprreciate the spectacle. It was kind of trade-off - I think I'm a little weaker on the bottom end, but not by much. The inherint factory hesitation is gone, though - I went one size up on the main, and am keeping an eye on the plugs, So far no problem. I won't be getting radical on this engine, but when I get the sweet Softail in a year or two, then I'll be able to go crazy. I plan on keeping the Sporty, maybe for me, maybe for one of the kids. Does everyone use their Altimeter always??
Dumpster replied to Skyvixen's topic in Safety and Training
Hi there!! I always wear an alti and have a dytter tucked in next to my left ear, myself. I have found during intense 4-way, I look at others alti's more than my own sometimes- Easy Does It -
Oh yeah- I've had quite a few people try to merge into my ass. But don't get me wrong - I'll pull into the passing lane when I see some one coming down an entrance ramp - I'm cool that way. But when a two-lane is merging into a single lane, and you've got this one Lexus-driving moron who HAS to get in front of you, no matter what, THOSE guys I show no quater. They can eat the shoulder for driving like that. And I'm a complete highway asshole sometimes - I can't stand that loud thumping bass shit, so I retaliate with loud pipes. I don't wear a helmet on the bike, I wear seatbelts, and a helmet when I jump. I ride wearing jeans and boots, no helmet, and a black t-shirt. I can't stand crotch rockets - they're just statistics waiting to happen, and some of the worst, irresponsible riders I have ever seen. I think the dumbest thing (now keep in mind helmets are optional here in Illinois-) is a kid on a riceburner, in shorts, a dago-T, sandals, AND A HELMET, riding like he's at Laguna. That's like the fat lady who orders a triple cheeseburger, double onion rings and diet coke, and says, "I'm on a diet". Easy Does It
