(another addiction) New cordless phones for the house- Power Tools!! - Porter-Cable router with 2 bases and a router table, a biscuit joiner, two sanders and about $300.00 worth of router bits (all carbide, of course-) I'll be spending lots of time in the garage! I've been buying myself beer all week, since I've got the whole week off - Bought myself $300.00 in jump tickets since no one else would- Insults from family memebers (Not my wife) who don't know jack shit about the sport - ( I Must Laugh!!) Am going to finance a miniDV camera - Suggestions? I'm going to get drunk. Wanna join me?

I'm Rich and didn't know it! (whuffo ignorance thread)
Dumpster replied to Dumpster's topic in The Bonfire
Duh - Friggin misplaced decimal points- But like they were saying- Just goes to show ya how much "they" know - Gotta laugh at it! I'm still rich to spend twenty grand or 200 grand at a sport - And this came from a person who spent like $500,000 on a 4,500 sq ft house for just he and his wife - And a little annoying dog that could double as a dust mop- I gotta laugh!! According to an "association" of mine, I'm have to be rich, because (accusation tone of voice here-) according to a good friend of thiers, who has jumped "a couple times" each jump I make costs at least $175.00 And since I make about a hundred jumps a year, I spend at least 175,000.00 on skydiving each year. (actually MORE, because since I jump my OWN GEAR, it costs more for "insurance".) All that, plus my $1250.00 a month mortgage and the $400.00 payment for Sharon's Trailblazer, and just the fact I ride a Harley (that's paid for), I must be making about $400,000.00 a year minimum. -
Merry Christmas to you and everyone, my friends!!

Gave me flashbacks to the Gulf War Funny, but so much of that rings true!
-
Awesome, my man!! I myself am a vet of the Gulf War and Bosnia. All of us appreciate the support we get. The only "family" I've found that comes close to the military family I was part of, is my skydiving family. You all ROCK! Heartfelt thanks from just another vet, who was just doing his job-

Get drunk, but make sure it's the chickies that have thier way with your head. Worse thing is you go to the local head cutter and get it shaved, which is still cool for the moment. Make sure some one gets video. Easy Does It

$$ on thier account is always welcome- Beer or other beverage of thier liking. Perhaps a gift cert. from thier favorite gear store? A reserve repack is cool- See what brand of goggles they wear - Are they getting scratched up? Or maybe a new faceplate for thier fullface? Easy Does It

41 now and finishing my 3rd season. - Will be doing some coaching this coming year and then AFF the following. I've got a daughter who can't wait to make her first jump and a wife who wishes I'd stop.

Who would choose skydiving as a career?
Dumpster replied to SpeedDog's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
I would, and very well may, make it at least a part-time career. This coming year will be getting my coach rating, the year after that AFF, then maybe on to Tandem. By then I'll be fully vested in my 401(k) and profit-sharing accounts where I work now, and I'll be able to pull up stakes without losing anything, move to a warm climate, and enjoy the good life, living in a trailer on the DZ. 1 Totally rockin' Sky Knights Cristmas Party:3:0 Three jumps Saturday - Kinda cold (-10 F at altitude I think) We were jumping from 5,000'. Kickass party, we got kicked out of the bar an hour past closing time, two arrests were made, and I spent some tall cash. Spent all day today recovering. But I'm not getting too old for this! I'd love to add a Bridgeport mill and an engine lathe to the collection, too! Easy Does It

I'd be a little leery of such a lightweight unit. The "four heat settings" seems to be like you'll have a bunch of problems with getting the voltage set just right. It can be very frustrating to produce good welds with mediocre equipment. Try to find a unit with continiously variable voltage, and that will run at least .035" wire. For general mild steel, use a mix of 75/25 argon/ CO2, or even 85/15. I prefer the 75/25. And for a regulator, you'll be looking for a flowmeter actually, vs. a pressure regulator used for torch work. I prefer Miller equipment myself. We have a Millermatic 250 here in the shop. Not really heavy-duty, but it'll do anything you'll require. Look for one on ebay. You won't go wrong. I haven't done much with Lincoln equipment since high school, and haven't used Hobart at all, so I can't offer an opinion there. I understand Lincoln does have some good stuff out there. Just avoid the "Joe Homowner" cheap stuff. You'll be glad you did. Flux core isn't a bad way to go, but you'll need to learn to watch your puddle very carefully to make sure your slag is washing out and you're getting good penetration. (Just like Stick welding.) Needless to say, but if you're building something to tow behind a truck, your welds need to be very sound lest they break and send a few hundred punds of steel into oncoming traffic. One thing I've noticed with MIG, I see alot of folks who can run a really nice looking bead, but have very little penetration so the weld isn't all that strong. Do a bunch of practice welds then bust'em up or cut them in cross-section, and see how they really look. "Rather have MIG than Stick - " - ahem - MIG welders are nothing more than an electric caulking gun. I had to learn to stick weld in all posistions before I was allowed to run MIG. Although MIG seems quite easy, it has many limitations. And as I mentioned before, it's easy to run beads that looks good but lack penetration. I, myself, prefer stick to MIG in alot of applications. One can take alot of pride in being able to weld stick and produce beads that look as nice as MIG welds. We have the Millermatic 250 here for MIG, a little Thunderbolt sputterbox for light stick jobs and portability, and a SWEEET Syncrowave 250 for TIG or stick (Water-cooled stinger, foot or hand current control, all the bells and whistles!), and 300 feet of cable for stick welding in some of the weird places I need to go. Plus a plasma cutter, torches, and a nice assortment of stock - One of these days I'll post a picture of the shop. Way long post - But I felt compelled to share!!! Good Luck, and let's see some pics of that grill when it's done!! Easy Does It

That's exactly what's going on - your lungs are cleaning themselves! It's a good thing! When I quit, the worst part of the morning was taking a nice hot shower and the steam would loosen up all that crap in my lungs - then I would start hacking like crazy! It only lasted a short while, though. Keep up the good fight! You can do it, my friend! Easy Does It

I quit for three years after many years smoking, regressed for about six months this summer, and am smoke free again for a month and a half now. (First time I had the help off some Zyban, the second time I did it cold-turkey.) Key is making up your mind to NOT SMOKE. Tell yourself "I Don't Smoke". Period. No questions, no options. Spending your last five bucks on cigs is not an option. Bumming one is not an option. Smoking is just something you don't do, like you don't eat pickled yak liver, either. Don't tell people "I'm trying to quit." Tell them "I HAVE QUIT." (Except maybe don't shout it at them, they may get the wrong impression.) I like being able to draw a full breath, not hacking in the morning, not scrounging for change at the end for week for smokes, not being winded when sprinting up a set of stairs or to the plane for a "Now-Call". I LOVE going to the gym now! (One of my rewards to myself for quitting was to use part of the money saved for a gym membership.) You mention working towards your A license - Which tells me you're nearly broke paying for jumps and saving to but gear - Do a little math like I did with my wife (who refuses to quit and is a non-jumper-) She spends about 1800 - 2000 a year on smokes. I made about 100 jumps this year. Coincidence? I don't think so. So now I try to shove 3-4 bucks a day in this jar on my dresser to prove a point to her - There is a choice - I can smoke or I can jump. Now I want to lose about 15 pounds and downsize to a 135 Sabre 2 - Any help there? Easy Does It
