  1. Didn't know being a Christian had anything to do with arms smuggling, unless you're just being a bigot for effect. I didn't realize you knew him. What's he like. -------------------------------------------------- Stay positive and love your life.
  2. Not when the higher turnout was based only on race. How do you assert that it was only his color that attracted them, rather than his brilliant teleprompter reading ability? Really? I'm no racist but I'm not naive either. -------------------------------------------------- Stay positive and love your life.
  3. One case? So you're telling us this is the one case where the system put a person on a long waiting list for crutial tests? -------------------------------------------------- Stay positive and love your life.
  4. You love the fact a woman couldn't get help in Canada and resorted to US treatment? Holmes, from Waterdown, Ont., said she would have died had she relied on the Canadian health-care system and waited to see a specialist. But the director of the brain tumour research centre at the Montreal Neurological Institute says he thinks that claim is "an exaggeration." So the montreal director of brain tumor reseach is a little bias. That's weird. Dr. Rolando Del Maestro says the lesion Holmes was diagnosed with is benign, and usually slow-growing. It typically does not require urgent attention, he said. Oh... ok.. it's just a slow growing brain tumor. No need to worry, I guess. "If it's a real emergency in the sense that the patient's visual function is getting substantially worse, the patients would be brought in immediately and would be operated on the next day," he said. In 2005, Holmes, complaining of headaches and vision loss, went to see a Canadian doctor and was put on a six-month waiting list to see specialist. Ok. In a case where vision loss is apparent, the patient gets immediate treatment. Unless... the patient is a real person complaining of headaches and vision loss. Then they'll be put on a waiting list. Are you really using this shit as a source? After trying unsuccessfully to expedite the process, she was diagnosed and treated at the Mayo Clinic. Holmes said U.S. doctors considered the cyst a tumour, and that it would cause death if not removed immediately.*** Please clarify how anything in this article comes close to justifying canadian style healthcare over ours. -------------------------------------------------- Stay positive and love your life.
  5. You think the reason we (the world, not corp america) hasnt found a cure for aids is because of lost profit? If that's the case then why have we (the world, not corp america) found cures or vacines for other deadly diseases? -------------------------------------------------- Stay positive and love your life.
  6. Typical of this forum. Take the term and twist it every which way until it's hardly recognizable. The American Dream is achieving something for yourself through work. The current american attitude is 'gimme gimme gimme while I sit on my ass.' 'Work is too hard.' The Greatest Generation was made by a bunch of hard working men and women who knew what they wanted and how to get there. The current generation is a bunch of whiney ass pussies who think the government should provide everything without any amount of work; let alone hard work. I like work. I love hard work. If you enjoy sitting on your ass bitching about how unfair life is then fine. Go do it somewhere out of my sight. -------------------------------------------------- Stay positive and love your life.
  7. Chris Mathews will defend Obama in a Perez Hilton style crying blog post. “The only problem with getting a bipartisan bill is the Republican leadership in the Senate,” Reid said. He's such a bitch. They can't put shit together that's acceptable to anyone but it's the minority party's fault. Falling right in line with "It wasn't me" policy. -------------------------------------------------- Stay positive and love your life.
  8. It is such a shame that the dems would scoff at that representation though. AND STILL defend their messiah. I'd rather defend the guy who is spending money on investments this country should be making (EG, healthcare, education, etc) rather than blowing it on an unnecessary war. Right now I still think time needs to be spent to give the guy a chance and see where he's going with all of this, and then I'll pass judgment. Money we don't have is still money we don't have, regardless of what it's spent on. According to nationalpriorities.com, the total cost of both wars since 2001 combined is roughly $900B. Some of the latest estimates put Obama's healthcare reform at roughly double that. Healthcare is better than war, obviously. But again, money we don't have is money we don't have. -------------------------------------------------- Stay positive and love your life.
  9. What is wrong with that woman? -------------------------------------------------- Stay positive and love your life.
  10. i wondered about the constitutionallity of it, but decided not include it in my original post because i honestly don't know what part of the constitution it would violate. as far as federal government taking the back door, there are a few states that are getting a little tired of the feds getting in to their business. in the end, i think all of this discussion is purely academic. if anything does get passed, it will have little meaningful effect. What evidence do you have that the plan under consideration includes a measure forcing medics to take govt. insurance? Read the bill. OK, I did that. Now tell us which division and title FORCES medics to accept govt. insurance. You read ALL the pages of the bill? He'd be the only one in the country to have done so. -------------------------------------------------- Stay positive and love your life.
  11. Amen. I think that very few people actually understand the lives of doctors. Their lifestyle sucks in many, many ways. I know I posted about this in another thread recently, so I'm not going to belabor the point, aside from saying that the people pointing fingers at "those rich doctors" probably aren't living anywhere as difficult a life. Funny that "the best and brightest" (to quote someone on here recently) who are attracted to medicine because of the rewards (to paraphrase someone on here recently) end up having such sucky jobs. Not sucky jobs. Sucky lifestyle in many (not all) ways. The job is tough. The hours are tough. Dealing with patients not paying bills and being sued is tough. His point was pretty clear that doctors don't live paycheck to paycheck but blaming healthcare costs on their greediness is a pretty big stretch. I'm confident you knew what he meant and are just being argumentative. -------------------------------------------------- Stay positive and love your life.
  12. Bud Light. That is truly tasteless. Blue Moon and Redstripe. Two of my favorites. -------------------------------------------------- Stay positive and love your life.
  13. Perhaps there ought to be a "two tier" system for care after a certain age. Say, after 40, if you are ruled to have an "unhealthy" lifestyle, then you just get the basic care--no expensive measures to keep you going. If you have a "healthy" lifestyle, you could qualify for the stuff that's more expensive, and would keep you going longer. Maybe even allow an "uber-healthy" category, in which people would continue to get the most expensive procedures after age 70. This is somewhat related to one of my questions about universal healthcare. It drives me nuts to see people riding a harley at 70 mph through the city during rush hour traffic without a helmet on. If he chooses to do that then fine, but should his dumb ass be covered by universal care? What about the guy who's broken 43 bones in his body skydiving but continues to jump? My parents have smoked for 30 years. Should they be covered? All of those actions are a great part of living in this country. We get to choose whether or not to go for a run or go to McDonald's. The argument is usually that the rich shouldn't pay for the poor. I think the deeper issue is whether the healthy should have to pay for the fat and lazy. Or the responsible should pay for the idiots who throw themselves out of airplanes. -------------------------------------------------- Stay positive and love your life.
  14. The replies so far in the thread pretty much explain why spiritual discussion are rare (around a dropzone anyway). They assume the science of today is correct and therefore God or anything else "supernatural" is a myth. It's tough to have a discussion on the meaning of life, the soul, or levels of consciousness if people think science explains it all. -------------------------------------------------- Stay positive and love your life.
  15. Yeah, I get it and I don't think the bill will pass. I just think it's assanine to say the man should have no input when the sex was consensual. -------------------------------------------------- Stay positive and love your life.
  16. But can you force a guy to assume liability if he has no authority? That changes things. We didn't realize the man was raped and his sperm were deposited against his will. The baby was just as much his as it was hers. Why do you think he shouldn't have any say in the matter? -------------------------------------------------- Stay positive and love your life.
  17. I guess he should have thought about it before he fucked her. I guess she should've thought about it before she fucked him. Oops, I'm pregnant. Oh well. Abort the baby. All's well that ends well, I guess. -------------------------------------------------- Stay positive and love your life.
  18. There's a surprise. Another copy and paste rather than an original thought. -------------------------------------------------- Stay positive and love your life.
  19. So the Bush administration made the proper decision. Copy. Thanks for another well-thought-out post. -------------------------------------------------- Stay positive and love your life.
  20. Yeah, it couldn't possibly be for any other reason than those greedy doctors. Education costs, malpractice insurance... bah. Ignore those, right? It's just the evil corportations' fault and the government is going to swoop in and fix everthing. -------------------------------------------------- Stay positive and love your life.
  21. No reason, other than you have no numbers and no analysis. Saying tax increases will be offset by savings in healthcare is quite a claim. Not even the people pushing the bill are saying that. If you want to cite it in an argument then come up with something other than "well there's no reason to think otherwise." You said non-profit means not for the profit of shareholders. Is that true or not? To start, the Dow has just finished it's best two week improvement since 2000. Well hot damn! That was worth $800,000,000,000 of taxpayer money, wasn't it!! Nevermind the unemployment rate... You clearly didn't read the article. There is no mention of a magical overnight recovery, as you claim. Fist off, I didn't say they promised a magical recovery. I said that's how it was sold. 'Doom and gloom if this doesn't pass before you read it!' He said: "The time for talk is over, the time for action is now." ....."This recession might linger for years. Our economy will lose 5 million more jobs. Unemployment will approach double digits. Our nation will sink deeper into a crisis that, at some point, we may not be able to reverse," Obama wrote in the newspaper piece. THE SKY IS FALLING THE SKY IS FALLING The only way we'll survive is with my stimulus!! Do you really not understand the difference between borrowing and spending money on unnecessary wars and borrowing and investing money on national infrastructure?*** Do you really not understand that spending money we don't have is the same as spending money we don't have? What the fuck difference does it make where it goes? I've said over and over "There was a war" is : A. Not a valid excuse for flushing trillions down the drain B. Does absolutely nothing for promoting a valid solution to funding universal healthcare. Supporters of universal healthcare can't even come up with a viable way to fund the system, much less put together a plan for implementation. I get so tired of hearing shit like "well people pay sales tax" and "there's a war in Iraq." So the fuck what? Come up with some semblance of a plan that addresses funding. Then we'll move on to other small issues like implementing and managing. -------------------------------------------------- Stay positive and love your life.
  22. You're absolutely right. Since he and I have equal stakes then why do I have to fund his healthcare? The poorest US citizen has just as much right to get up off his ass and go get it. It's the American Dream, not the American Gimme. -------------------------------------------------- Stay positive and love your life.
  23. If it's an impossible analysis then don't cite the outcome in your argument. Yes, they can. Being non-profit indicates that the corporation does not exist to make profits for shareholders. It does not mean that those working for the non-profit corporation do so for free. So any corporation that isn't publicly traded is non-profit? No, I'm not. I'm pointing out the fallacious argument that such a large proportion of Americans are not paying taxes. Ok. A large portion of Americans don't pay income tax. The top 1% still pays nearly 30% of federal taxes. The economy seems to have slowed/stopped its downward trend. By what measure? No, it wasn't, despite the claims you may currently be hearing from right wing pundits. Really? Right wing pundits. Hmm.. didn't realize he was working for Fox now. Yes, really. When we were finally on a path of fiscal responsibility in the last years of Clinton's budgets, how did the Republicans respond? By lowering taxes and increasing spending, a contributing factor of the recession from which we have had to pay dearly to begin recovering. So spending increases the debt and contributed to the recession. So, in order to end the recession, we spent more money. Then, before the recession ends, there are proposals to spend more money. -------------------------------------------------- Stay positive and love your life.
  24. Compare the administration costs of Medicare to private insurance companies. Such a comparison would certainly suggest that the savings would outweigh the costs. Your claim was that savings would offset tax increases. Comparing administration costs between two medicare and insurance companies does nothing. Compare tax increases to savings to validate your claim. Someone has to create and run the not-for-profit. Everyone in the business can't make the same amount and call it non-profit. Another misconception is that those who owe no federal income tax pay no taxes. It simply isn't true. True, but you're way over simplifying it to try and make a point. The top 1% pays nearly 30% of federal taxes. Dance around and spin it all you like. You can't change the facts. True. I've never met anyone who didn't pay any taxes, though. So people should get income tax returns at the end of the year because they paid sales tax? Reference last reply. So far as I can read, it is working as intended. It was never expected to work magically overnight. You should read more, then. How has it even begun to work as inteded? Keeping unemplyment low and creating jobs? How's that working out? It may not have been intended to work magically overnight but that's sure as shit the way it was sold. No, we have an $11 trillion debt because too many people complain about paying too much in taxes, so there isn't enough income to cover expenses. We have an $11T debt because those who actually pay taxes complain about having to pay too much? Really? I would suggest that maybe it's because the upper-middle and upper classes are taxed out and people in Washington just keep adding government programs to the list. The tax system isn't working perfectly (nor has anyone claimed otherwise). We pay too little in taxes, hence the large public debt. So why don't we figure out a better plan before adding universal healthcare? -------------------------------------------------- Stay positive and love your life.
  25. That's where you're wrong. Yes, there will be a increase in taxes. That increase, for the majority of Americans who currently have health care, will be offset by the savings from out of pocket healthcare expenditures. Do you have even one number that would suggest savings would be greater than tax increases? I'd be interested to read that. I don't know why people should be expected to work not for profit or how they would be convinced to do so. The bigger problem most have is that so many don't pay anything. Those who pay taxes get something in return. Those who don't pay taxes get it all for nothing. The $800B stimulus is doing wonders, isn't it? The government turns it into a black hole pretty quickly. Tremendous buying power? I guess that's why we have an $11T pulic debt. The tax system is working perfectly so let's go ahead and add a few trillion for univeral healthcare. -------------------------------------------------- Stay positive and love your life.
