  1. become a rigger ;) I like my canopy... ...it lets me down.
  2. What a demonstration of poor product promotion. It is considered poor business practice to bag others rather than promote the benefits of your own product. The above quote from the link you provided skybear is ridiculous in its content. The whole concept of an AAD firing parameter is that it fires at a point where it would normally be considered too late for the jumper to do so themselves. For a company that decided to hide an issue with their own product for over a year; they should consider a well known saying about people who live in glass houses.... 3. If you are saying that Cypres is reliable and Argus is not I suggest that you have a look at the recent recall of Cypres. I have nothing against any manufacturer, Airtec, AAD or Aviacom. I choose to jump Aviacom's product. The reality is that ALL of the brands are still in development as the sport is as well. I like my canopy... ...it lets me down.
  4. Im an Aussie Rigger working in the loft where I was trained. been there for over four years now, I get au$25/hour as a contractor. Enough...? Not sure, but the guy I work for is fair and when I want a new line-set or PC I just go right ahead and build it and I don't have to pay for materials so I am happy. I like my canopy... ...it lets me down.
  5. Australian design called the Woomera. Get system, much loved by CReW Dogs due to being able to place the reserve PC where you want it in the case of a mess around you... :) I like my canopy... ...it lets me down.

all things in life 'should' function as advertised. You must be a real handful when your phone/computer/car/television/et al doesn't do its job. You could respond with a comment regarding that this is a life saving piece of equipment but then you would also have to concede that sometimes medicines/medical procedures fail too. Life sucks doesn't it? On the other hand if someone follows the procedures that they are taught then we would only have to feel sad about the people that were incapacitated. Hmmm, human failure there at some point too, how are you going to deal with that one? I like my canopy... ...it lets me down.
  7. One of our local DZ that uses only HOP's and is from that part of the world contact Tibor Glesk jump (AT) jumpSCS.com I like my canopy... ...it lets me down.
  8. Ignorance. Lack of understanding. Fear of not wearing 'The Brand' ie Picton is a Talon DZ for obvious reasons, the factory is around the corner. Ripcord in QLD is a Racer DZ because the DZ Owner believes that they are the best rig, Ramblers used to be a Javelin DZ due to having a Jav dealer on site and a lot of my friends jump Wings as I am amongst other dealerships a Wings dealer and thats what I jump. There is nothing wrong with Dolphins if someone is looking to get started and wants to spend their money on jumping rather than on 'bling'. By the time that someone is ready for a container that is more suited to high speeds for free-fly etc then they will probably want a smaller rig with smaller canopies and so the Dolphin is not really an issue as they would sell it on by then anyhow. As for the resale issue, looked at the other way around it means that the early jumper coming off student status can get a bargain of a cheap rig and is not going to lose out on much when it comes time to sell it as opposed to buying something with all the bells and whistles which will lose more value over the same period liekly. Of course feel free to send them my way and I will do them a bargain on a new rig ;) I like my canopy... ...it lets me down.
  9. its a very tidy design hey? :) I like my canopy... ...it lets me down.
  10. I am happy to still be jumping them. I figure that the material is not the domain of the canopy manufacturer but that of the material manufacturer. I wonder if they tell their customers of any changes to the process before they sell them the rolls of material? I have never known anything but great service from Icarus NZ. I like my canopy... ...it lets me down.
  11. cheers. Seen a couple of canopies in recent times that have lost porosity quicker than normal and they were yellow hence the question. I like my canopy... ...it lets me down.
  12. what colour? yellow by any chance? I like my canopy... ...it lets me down.
  13. Icarus Tandem Canopies do not have a brake setting on them. I have known DZ's to sometimes have an elastic band on or around the 2nd or 3rd brake attachment point on the tail of the canopy and then bring up the extra line from the rest of the cascades. This brings the tail up somewhat out of the way for packing and while it would resemble the tail being lifted as if the brakes were set it is only for control of the excess. Most DZ's that I am familiar with just pack them without this band and no problems :) hope this helps I like my canopy... ...it lets me down.

  16. We an RDS using standard grommets set in webbing that has proven to be very acceptable to the lines. I use vectran 300 on my vx84 & 88. I have no issues with the lines lasting but I have not taken them past 350 jumps MAX. basically I work on the rule of thumb of 1 jump per pound. I like my canopy... ...it lets me down.
  17. what about riggers that swoop? or jump tfx285's nah your right, we know nothing. to the OP - email address in your inbox with the contact details of Michael Vaughan, Australian CP who flies a JVX 69 (all sail from memory) He will be able to give you sensible replies from personal experience. @ rhys ..... the diplomat as always I like my canopy... ...it lets me down.
  18. Mister I totally encourage you to do this. There could be no great feeling of satisfaction that building your own canopy and flying it successfully. It is one of my goals to build not only the parachutes but the container on my back before I part this world. Good luck and have fun :) I like my canopy... ...it lets me down.
  19. I aj sure that he meant to say A Tandoom is the safest jump for a first time jumper to make and the most dangerous for an experienced jumper to make. The statistics of there being fewer fatalities and injuries would probably be skewed by the fact that the person doing the tandem would in general be more experienced and hopefully as well would be following the risk minimisation procedures vigilantly. I like my canopy... ...it lets me down.
  20. My first rig was a brown Talon with BCRW-1 embroidered on the mud flap.... I am sure there are some people here that will know what that means ;) Gary Cobb was the original owner..... the rig did many many jumps with the main hooked up backwards, as did a number of people who got their BCRW #number I like my canopy... ...it lets me down.
