always wondered why people are so freaked by this idea. If your gear is will maintained and is not in danger of having a premmie PC extraction whilst doing freefly at 150mph + why the hell should it be an issue at 60mph? just a thought... I like my canopy... ...it lets me down.

The fella that trained me had me doing end cell top skin replacements long before I had my Master's. Cheap Labour perhaps Minimums and standards are there to ensure a 'basic' standard. Of course this should be exceeded whenever possible but you need an idea of where people are at or off they go and let confidence and ego take over where humility and ability should be ruling. Here is one for the barrack lawyers though.... I firmly believe that the main risers are a part of the H/C therefore should be treated as a TSO'd component. Yet they tend to be considered as part of the main. Whats your take? I like my canopy... ...it lets me down.

We had a similar problem on a customers V3. The D-handle would continually push out from the bottom of the pocket. The solution we found for this was to convert the pocket to a Wings style pocket with Hook on the Back portion of the pocket and a flap of Pile that is attached to a piece of Type XII that is only attached at the back seam but not to the front of the pocket. This allows a lot more movement in the MLW without the handle moving. SOrry no camera to hand to show you right now. I like my canopy... ...it lets me down.

Have you found a way to insure your gear?
koppel replied to quesera's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
Australian Parachute Federation has a great deal for its members... maybe that can extend to non-mewmbers as well. Not sure. Have a look at www.apf.asn.au and on the website is something about insurance I like my canopy... ...it lets me down. -
Wings owners, lend me your ears and opinions.

Hi I have 1500-2000 jumps on Cordura BOC's on the WIngs. In that time I have had one hard pull which I got on the second attempt. During the last 5 years as a rigger I have seen at least half a dozen hard pulls on Spandex BOC's leading to a reserve ride. It can happen on any system I like my canopy... ...it lets me down. -
I was taught that when we are checking something that we do regularly like a 3-ring or a pin check that it helps to touch it by placing a finger on it. This focuses the attention clearly at what you are doing and takes no longer to check than normal. As you said its like looking at the watch. Glad your okay. Hope this helps prevent the same thing happening to someone else. I like my canopy... ...it lets me down.

Not everyone has the benefit of a good local rigger available to them. As a Rigger I have people that bring things to me to do for them. I have had people ask me to retro fit press-studs etc onto mud-flaps for knives. The work is always hard with the hard-housings in place and the harness in place. Most work get done prior to this when constructing a rig. It will always look best if done during manufacture hence the value to the work. Agreed that some riggers will fit stuff after for a saving of a few dollars but I still reckon it looks best if done at the factory whilst building it. You may not always see the difference, other riggers will be able to spot it ;) I like my canopy... ...it lets me down. -

koppel replied to npgraphicdesign's topic in Gear and Rigging
Hey with regards to the knife, you get a knife with the rig for free anyhow. When you buy the knife option you are getting a pocket and press stud located under the mudflap as well as an extra knife.. Its up to you to decide if that is worth the money or not. As a Wings dealer I think the option of being able to place a knife there is good as it makes it easier to reach, as for the knives, there are better ones out there for sure but any knife is better than no knife. ifyou PM me your email I will send you some pictures of their swoop riser option from my rig :) I like my canopy... ...it lets me down. -
Yours works fine for the fine for most jumpers, for the working skydiver who needs something more try http://www.cookiecomposites.com/shop/Accessories/84/index.htm I like my canopy... ...it lets me down.

There is a difference between landing a canopy on rear risers with some tension on the tail through the steering lines and landing a canopy on rear risers with a broken or cut steering line. When the line is broken or cut there is a massive spillage of air and the most memorable one I have seen was on a 200sqf canopy by an Instructor with 8,000+ jumps who does a landing roll on just about every landing who swore never to land that configuration again as it nearly broke both his legs. Someone with less experience in landing rolls probably would have got broken. I like my canopy... ...it lets me down.

On a BASE you don't have options. On your skydiving rig you have options. In the event of a line-over either try a couple of pumps of the brakes to clear it then follow your Emergency Procedures or just go directly to your Emergency Procedures. You have options, use them I like my canopy... ...it lets me down.

looking at the Racer one on FB I was wondering if it was standard practice by them to video ALL reserve deployments on ALL rigs that they get in for repacks? Not heard of that before.... I like my canopy... ...it lets me down.

I think in the years that I hvae been dealing gear I have taken a deposit once maybe twice. Thankfully never run into issues. Have had to 'finance' a few people at the pointy end when they came up short but thats no big deal either if they are genuine. Have financed others from the start with payment plans as well. How do you teach Emergancy Procedures (Cutting Away)
koppel replied to TheRanchPROshop's topic in Instructors
So basically what you are saying is that when using the One Hand per Handle method if something goes wrong that is just Natural Selection By your own words you are arrogant and sadly you are correct. I am not aware of any Drop Zone here in Australia that actually teaches ab initio students to use two hands per handle though I am not familiar enough with the vagaries of ALL DZ's here to state for certain that it does not happen I am certain enough of the fact that if it is taught then it is by far the minority that teach this method. what size do you need. I will organise it for you straight away. PM with your contact details. I have dealt with SMI for over 5 years as a dealer and have had nothing but excellent service from them. I am certain there will be a reason why it has not worked out for you on this occasion. as for the poor fool that thinks their is only one company out there that has customer service.... I bet they only ever eat at Macca's too. I like my canopy... ...it lets me down.

What you mean is that you don't know any drop-zones in Australia that would retire a main after 1,000 jumps. There are DZ's in Oz that do a good job of maintenance and others that are stingy with their money. What amazes me is that there are TI's that will jump the gear. This one has been a big problem with keeping gear good (APF policy) http://hq.apf.asn.au:85/images/e/eb/433A.pdf but I understand that this is being brought into line now as well so things should change I like my canopy... ...it lets me down.

oh I wish most places in Australia pay between $20-$40 if your lucky but then most will not let you use your own gear. THink of the lost revenue for the DZO I like my canopy... ...it lets me down.

what system are you jumping? pm sent :) I like my canopy... ...it lets me down.

I know of one who has used them. They no longer use it though. It was the tuck flap and two long tangs through two grommets variety Are you interested in using them yourself? I like my canopy... ...it lets me down.

TI's : Have you had a mal on a tandem yet?
koppel replied to MotherGoose's topic in Tandem Skydiving
3 TM mals all up Only tension knot I have had in 2000+ tandems was on a single brake line canopy. One from line-twist, Fought it all the way to my hard deck. Canopy was known for twisting up on opening and was retired shortly after and one very random hard opening that broke every line on the front right group either at the riser end or at the canopy. Even tore off a couple of attachment tapes Hey Rhys, whats your thinking behind dual brakes causing tension knots. Just because you are adding more lines or because people don't take out the twists? I like my canopy... ...it lets me down. -
Make of canopy has a lot to do with it. Wings use PD canopies as a reference and stated sizing on a container is generally stated as the MAX size for that container. I like my canopy... ...it lets me down.
