  1. I am not sure I understand the dynamics/physics of how or why it being pulled along the floor would make a difference however I pack a reasonable number of Racers here and will try your methods the next few I do. I like my canopy... ...it lets me down.
  2. you are probably right by the look of it. I can't say that this sort of maths is a strong point for me. anyone work it out for us? I like my canopy... ...it lets me down.
  3. realistically there a a couple less than 400 that are by Airtec's own admission (if a year late) a problem. They say that they should fail during the closing of a rig, they do not say what pressures are required to cause this to happen. Yes I have posed the question. I have not had answer to my last three emails with questions to Airtec. By Comparison when I sent an email to Vigil asking for answers on a comparison tho their cutter vs the Argus cutter which is the same style and grounded here in Australia I got a long well thought out reply inside of a week. Mind you I got a quick email within 2 days telling me they were going to reply. hmmmm most of my reserves come in around 18lbs-20lbs pressure on the pin. So I would say that during closing I might reach as high as 25 when I am 'cranking the @#$@#' out of it... Would you call that a lot? Too much for these discs that are affected? Enough to ensure that an effected disc would fail or could it conceivably tear just enough to create a sharp edge that may cause a loop to fail as someone is climbing out of the plane and bends some loading the loop a little more than previously... Can someone please show me an example of a good disc and a bad disc? what exactly are we looking for? In Australia I have been informed that 'it does not require urgent attention' I disagree. 4. I have been thinking the same thing. I tried to raise the issue with our Federation here in Australia only to be told it wan't a big enough deal to be worth talking about? I disagree. I have not been provided with any information yet that has eased my concerns about that situation arising. Why did it take so long for Airtec to advise people of this? The letters that they have posted on SSK and Airtec websites were only posted within the last week! I like my canopy... ...it lets me down.
  5. www.downwardtrend.com.au they make the Axe which is a nice combination of tucks and magnets. Freestow pocket is with two magnets and tucks on the side and the main stow is a tuck that holds the lines. I like my canopy... ...it lets me down.
  6. push the visor straight forward and then rotate up I like my canopy... ...it lets me down.
  7. Here in Australia its the same. Funny thing was after my first 1,000 tandems I realised there was still lots to learn. I reckon a 1,000 jump minimum is a good start for any candidate I like my canopy... ...it lets me down.
  8. That looks just like the one I saw here in Australia I like my canopy... ...it lets me down.
  9. I am aware of at least two smilie discs that have done the same thing here in Australia. I believe there was a recall of a certain number of discs. I will try and find the advisory but from memory there was a difference in the 'shine' of the discs. I like my canopy... ...it lets me down.
  10. Thanks for the reply. I understand the shape of the cutter I was just wondering how long the blade is past the aperture. cheers I like my canopy... ...it lets me down.
  11. thanks for posting those pictures do you know how far past the aperture the blade goes when it fires? I like my canopy... ...it lets me down.
  12. Do you have photo's you can post of those you have? What you are saying is that if I fire a Cypres cutter and then remove the plastic I will see what is shown in this image on the left hand cutter? If so I shall enjoy trying that on the weekend
  13. i wondered about that hence posting here I like my canopy... ...it lets me down.
  14. I have been provided with an image of a Cypres cutter and told of a particular incident. I am looking for background information to check the veracity of what I have been told. Can anyone provide more information on this image please. With all the BS that goes around on AAD's I will not consider any stories without solid evidence. thanks I like my canopy... ...it lets me down.
  15. No idea about how to fix that problem other than to get a Cookie G2 I like my canopy... ...it lets me down.
  16. interesting that the 114 and 125 both have the same volume at 312 Cu. In. I like my canopy... ...it lets me down.
  17. My last cat would go to great lengths to avoid touching the parachute or lines when I was packing reserves at home. He even got locked in my gear room for three days when I was away on holiday and a friend was feeding him. He used the only piece of plastic in the room that was not parachute related to go to the toilet on... RIP Cookie Monster my new cat.... I have to lock him in the other room when I am working cos its all fun and games to him... I like my canopy... ...it lets me down.
  18. ah my well read friend, there are always exceptions to rules that prove the case.... I like my canopy... ...it lets me down.
  19. I was packing one of these for an older jumper, mid fifties, until last year. It was somewhere around a 1988/9 model and was not quite at twenty years. I had been encouraging him to get it replaced for a couple of years and he was getting to the point of doing so. On the last repack early last year I look at it and decided to pull- test the material. It failed at 18 lbs. For me now anything over 15 years gets pulled tested once a year regardless of what it is. 20. The grommet issue I had heard of. The stories I heard were of the seal getting caught in hard housing and preventing pull. As I sad the were just stories but I figured that of there was any truth to them someone here might know. Can anyone also show documentation for grommet/seal issues other than the video shown in the reply above? I like my canopy... ...it lets me down.
  21. thank you. Yes that is the footage I was referring to in my post. I spent some time trying different searches. I like my canopy... ...it lets me down.
  22. I have heard stories second hand of lead seals being complicit in a couple of incidents. One was a skydiver and another was a pilot. I am unable to source any information on the matter. I expect these are urban myths however I would be interested in any information people may have on issues of using lead seals. I have seen some footage of a seal being routed through the loop (possibly) causing the rig to lock when the handle was pulled. Does anyone have any other info? Cheers I like my canopy... ...it lets me down.
  23. You put on the comp I'm there! Bottom line is there are issues in the industry. They need to be dealt with. Divide and conquer has been the way before. The union is giving people a chance to negotiate. There are benefits for the company in this as well. For those that think it's ok to pay the agent more than the instructor your are idiots. Rhys pays pilots because he sees the value in how pilots work when paid properly. You get a better class of instructor when you pay properly as well. You get to retain them for longer so they are more experienced and better educated and hopefully by that logic safer. Pay peanuts get monkeys hey Rhys? I like my canopy... ...it lets me down.
  24. Oh yeah, nor other thing....... Your a DZ operator now hey? Guess that changes the way you think I like my canopy... ...it lets me down.
  25. If you do 1000+jumps a year somewhere then a couple of bucks goes a long way to making more money. If you do 500-600 jumps a year you need a much bigger increase in income to make it worthwhile. Also job security goes right out the window as Pty Ltd. At least as a contractor there are rights as with being an employee. Work Cover is considerably more in Qld than Nsw which means up here you need yet again an even bigger increase in remuneration for it to be equitable. And lastly, if someone comes to me to negotiate then I will sit down and talk. If someone comes and holds a big stick over me and just tells me my rights are going out the window and I have to do this or that then I stand my ground I like my canopy... ...it lets me down.
