LongWayToFall replied to Boeris's topic in General Skydiving Discussions

Yeah you are right. Doing deals online is a nightmare for me, not getting ripped off is all I can hope for. -

LongWayToFall replied to Boeris's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
Pilots are a lot less than other canopies as it is, and you should be able to get it 15% off msrp as well, means allot less than $2000. I don't get why you are posting, do you want people feel sorry for you and tell you its going to be ok? There is obviously nothing we can do to help you. What if the seller accidentally dropped the canopy in a fire? Do you still want it? People get ripped off here all the time for $1000s, you are lucky it only cost you $100 in rental fees, which you CHOSE to pay. -
What time is it over there? I just woke up. I guess no matter what time it is, someone, somewhere, is pounding a beer.

Common man, seriously? You didn't get ripped off, you just didn't get the deal you wanted. Pilots are not that expensive new, just buy one. -

Damn. I was at a family dinner and forgot to record the game, so I had to look up the score online. Who fought?

chest strap release under canopy
LongWayToFall replied to cucamber's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
Didn't the guy who died last year (at perris I think) have his chest strap loosened, and couldn't locate his reserve handle? He was really experienced, and wasn't jumping with an aad or rsl at the time. -
All's well that ends well........
-
So, what do you have against him? If you think he drives like an old asian woman, you obviously haven't seen him compete with his rally car.....

I think we will see a different story tonight.

Have fun! After exit, take a deep breath and relax. Ask your instructor about the landing, he will give you some advice. Oh, and have fun!

Which weather website for Skydiving?
LongWayToFall replied to aceofd1amonds's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
I usually do weather underground, then accuweather. Weather underground seems to be a bit on the optimistic side. Some good sites in this thread! -
Sweet read. Lots of insight, thanks!

I think you will loose some style points. Honestly, if your neck is busted to the point of needing one, you probably shouldn't be jumping. You need to keep your head moving and looking around especially after the break off and under canopy. And what if you had a really hard opening, and hurt your neck more? I suppose if you are willing to risk it, go ahead, but maybe hop and pops are the best way not to risk others, not to mention the soft openings.

what is the nastiest way you have ever broken up with someone?
LongWayToFall replied to spankedmunky69's topic in The Bonfire
Regret is bullshit. You made the choice you did for a reason. Get over it, you were lucky to get to know someone who made you feel that way, and you can apply that knowledge to future relationships. So maybe you never meet someone like her, and never get married, and die lonely. Many people never get the chance to experience things like you have, and still many others get into relationships that are complete shit. Hey, it could be worse, a woman could cut off your penis and throw it out the window of a moving car. -
Students and Audible Altimeters…
LongWayToFall replied to EXTremeWade's topic in Safety and Training
I had an issue right off of student status, of checking my altimeter too often. As the jumps went by though, I got an idea of when I should start taking a look because the break off is getting close. Eventually I had a really good idea of time, and I am glad I had no audible. I think audibles for pull time are a good thing, because it takes a bit to get used to the time it takes to track, wave off, and pull, all without looking at your altimeter. You shouldn't need it for break off though. -
Just looking for opinions or feedback / Canopy models
LongWayToFall replied to Tuna-Salad's topic in Gear and Rigging
200 bucks a month is quite a few extra jumps per month once it is payed off, might as well buy on the cheap. First, you gotta decide what size canopies you are looking at though, that will decide what you buy. Check out containers with reserves, you can find them decent shape for $1000ish. I have also found that although it is a larger up front cost, buying an aad brand new saves you the most, with the vigil 2 being the best ($1200 and 20 years is much better than about $100/year plus maintenance for cypress) -

Are you buying new, or used? What sort of budget are you working with? My canopy is a PD210 9 cell, which is F-111 fabric. It packs up small, so when I ordered my container I got it sized for a 190 and it fits very easily. However, my wingloading is 1.2 also, and it is sort of pushing it, the flares are not good. The PD pulse is 1.5 sizes smaller than a comparable zp canopy in pack volume, similar to F-111. This is nice, because you can get a 210 and put it into a rig sized for a 190, just like I did. The Optima reserve is also low bulk, make sure you have similarly sized main and reserve. I just bought a sabre 2, because awhile back I tried one out that was in a rental rig, and loved it! The flare is really powerful and long lasting. All canopies have things that are good and bad, make a list of the ones you are thinking about and check out the reviews in "gear" tab above, and use the search. Make a list of priorities, you have to make some compromises. For instance, I don't like a long snivel, and wanted allot of flare. The sabre 2 does this for me great, but is known to have off heading openings and end cell closure sometimes, but that is ok with me. -

Man, you are lucky she didn't go missing. She could have just camped out in the woods for 2 weeks, while you were chilling in jail! -
