  1. affect is a verb. effect is a noun. beyond that, I can't follow the above thread. Most of the time. However, Affect and Effect can be either a verb OR a noun. Nobody has time to listen; because they're desperately chasing the need of being heard.
  2. Any possibility of pushing the Calendar of Events to an android app so all events can be pushed to our calendars? Nobody has time to listen; because they're desperately chasing the need of being heard.
  3. There was a special at the AT&T stores a couple of weeks ago (unsure of now), but if I had bought the Samsung Galaxy 8.9 tablet with a 2 year aircard, the Samsung Galaxy II Skyrocket Android Phone was free. I went over to Best Buy and bought the Rocket for freeish ($3.92) by trading in my iPhone 3GS and got the Xoom & 5 wifi spot. The Motorola John (Slotperfect) is talking about is [I think] only available through Verizon right now... They deployed that the week after I bought the Xoom. 4. I got the Motorola Xoom Tablet http://www.store.motorola.com/MOTOROLA-XOOM-trade-with-Wi-Fi/dp/B0045FM6SU?ie=UTF8&id=MOTOROLA%20XOOM%20trade%20with%20Wi-Fi&field_product_site_launch_date_utc=-1y&field_availability=-1&field_browse=2952940011&searchSize=12&searchNodeID=2952940011&searchPage=1&refinementHistory=brandtextbin%2Csubjectbin%2Ccolor_map%2Cprice%2Csize_name&searchRank=salesrank 32 with an AT&T wi-fi 5 connect hotspot. Plenty of peripheral devices... http://www.store.motorola.com/Cyber-Deals-Mobile-Devices/b/3427118011?utm_source=search&utm_medium=cpc&utm_campaign=Accessories_Holiday_Campaign_28Nov-4Dec_2011 Quite frankly, while doing my homework, I don't think there's much difference between the Xoom and the Galaxy. The battery life is longer than they advertise. I'm getting a good 20-24 hours between charges. IMO, the tablets are not that unlike the Laptops/PCS of five years ago .... each with the same internal components and the only variance among manufacturers being that of size, style and feel. Basically, put the Chevy 350 engine in a variety of body styles (Pickups to Impalas).. in the end, you've still got a Chevy 350. No matter which way you go... Be sure to get an otterbox. 5. Oh, C'mon... even as a Christian, you've had to read the contradiction's on Christ's deity; written in some cases by the same authors who claim him to be God... The diety of Christ has been debated ad nauseum, both here and in history. I implore you to delve into biblical study and not limit the basis of your faith to a few quotes selected out of context from some google search. One of the reasons I stopped quoting scripture so much is because unbeknowst to me I would sometimes quote verses that were convenient or seemed relevant to the situation at hand, but it just had no relevance to what was actually being taught in that particular context, eventhough what I was explaining wasn't inherrently wrong or anti-biblical. Here is a section of scripture where the spiritual truth being conveyed is actually about the diety of Christ, unlike the quotes you provided... ...note how the Father refers to the Son as God, so it's no surprise to me that Christ would refer to the father as God... Hebrews 2 then touches on why Christ was not only lower than God(The Father) as you alluded to earlier, but also lower than the angels and even man, as a servant. This also goes back to psalm 8. Also your quote of Matthew 27:46 was actually Jesus referencing psalm 22 to show that particular prophesy as being fulfilled. If you are simply looking to understand, I would suggest expository preaching/study...you don't have to agree, but I gaurantee you'll hear the greatest explanations/arguments against the assorted attacks on Scripture and the Diety of Christ. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Expository_preaching ACKNOWLEDGED WILL PURSUE TY FOR YHE AZIMUTH Nobody has time to listen; because they're desperately chasing the need of being heard.

  7. OK. So I'm going to come back full circle to the beginning of the thread and then I need to conclude this thread on comparative religion. Family is coming in and it's my first Christmas to New Year's off in ten years and I'm having a great time doing the other kind of relative work for a few days. I'll leave you with this if you're interested: Similarities between Islam, Christianity & Judaism : Dr Zakir Naik Part 1/5 Dr. Naik is a speaker from Mumbai, India, respected for promoting similarities between major faiths for a common platform of peace using the Bible, Vedas, Torah and Qur'an. To find the other 4 four parts if you're interested... Finally, I wish you all a very Happy New Year. God Bless... 8. Sorry, I can't speak to the Mormon or Jehovah's Witnesses. Oh, C'mon... even as a Christian, you've had to read the contradiction's on Christ's deity; written in some cases by the same authors who claim him to be God... Matthew 19:17, Mark 10:18 And he said unto him, Why callest thou me good? there is none good but one, that is, God. Matthew 27:46, Mark 15:34 My God, my God, why hast thou forsaken me? Mark 16:19 So then after the Lord had spoken unto them, he was received up into heaven, and sat on the right hand of God. John 8:40 But now ye seek to kill me, a man that hath told you the truth, which I have heard of God. John 14:28 My Father is greater than I. John 20:17 I ascend unto my Father, and your Father; and to my God, and your God. Acts 17:31 Because he hath appointed a day, in the which he will judge the world in righteousness by that man whom he hath ordained; whereof he hath given assurance unto all men, in that he hath raised him from the dead. 1 Corinthians 11:3 The head of Christ is God. 1 Corinthians 15:28 And when all things shall be subdued unto him, then shall the Son also himself be subject unto him that put all things under him, that God may be all in all. Colossians 3:1 Christ sitteth on the right hand of God. 1 Timothy 2:5 For there is one God, and one mediator between God and men, the man Christ Jesus. 9. That's the conclusion I've come to and it saddens me. Basically, we as mankind have divided into three groups (which I believe to be language-based differences) that are fighting and killing each other in the name of the same God. And, finally, can we enlighten/educate to make it stop? I agree, we are like three small children fighting over which one our father loves the most. Personally I think all these wars are born out of political discontent where religion is just a superficial caualty... btw, How can all three have the same God when Islam and Judaism don't believe Christ was God incarnate? Neither believe in a triune God.... OK. For that we would need to take a trip down Constantine lane who was not a Christian and the Council of Nicaea... And only Christianity believes in a Hell with no Crossover to Heaven... The Trinity still wasn't formalized until about 400 years later and even to this day is questioned and is nowhere to be found in the bible. And, back on subject... even the Nation of Islam believes in Jesus... just in a different way - A prophet, sent by Allah and born of the Virgin Mary, but not divine (Quran 5:17). To proclaim the Injil, or gospel. This gospel has been corrupted over time by human additions and alterations. Jesus was not crucified (Quran 4:157), but was raised to Heaven by Allah (4:158). The Jews, however crucified Jesus because of his claim to be divine. The short course is: The Christians and the Muslims have a lot more in common (Google: Similarities between Christianity, Judaism and Islam and look at any of the comparison charts), than either have with the jews. 10. It's called sabre rattling. look it up. Analysis: Saber-rattling in Strait of Hormuz U.S.: Iran 'saber-rattling' over strait The best they could do is temporarily disrupt oil passage. It would hike the price of oil short term and piss off the world. It would also likely be "suicidal for the current regime." Fucking skydivers... you got your "Sabres" mixed up... one is a parachute and a street name in Muskogee, Oklahoma and the other is a Saber. 11. I'm surprised you'd ask that in earnest. It reminds me of the patent official about 100 years ago who supposedly said, "Everything than can be invented, has been." Extrapolate. I would argue that I'm saying the exact opposite, "If the Hawking's position/quote is true, "The universe can and will create itself from nothing," Then, how come the evolutionary model hasn't already been invented or re-invented within any class of planet that we can see for millions of light years? And my point is: Why do you presume it hasn't been, just because species Terran homo sapiens sapiens hasn't discovered it yet at this point in time? The technology of our species is in its relative infancy. You assume I meant homo sapiens... any form of life, at any stage along the evolutionary cycle. And before you throw the "most popular" forms of life discovered on other planets at me... most of them have been explained away - by scientists... http://www.newscientist.com/article/dn9943-top-10-controversial-pieces-of-evidence-for-extraterrestrial-life.html Nobody has time to listen; because they're desperately chasing the need of being heard.

  14. Well written, Joe and that's about where I am at this point in my life. (sorry for the lag time between transmissions.. first Christmas off in ten years and am soaking it up with family and friends) I'd also like to address the scientists in the thread regarding their position on leaning towards atheism. I went down the track of agnostic/atheism for a few years, but like you have found more evidence that God must exist than to not. It begins with thinking about the lowest cellular level at the bottom of the sea, to the intricacies and complexities of the human body, to the same for our planet, to the ability to point to a star in any direction at night and... as far as we know, it goes for eternity. Interestingly enough, it was most of my friends/acquaintances in the field of science that brought me back to thinking about God (not religion). Some of these scientists were themselves agnostic/atheists and were merely bird-dogging questions I had. I am at a point, where I do not understand the Steve and Kallend "heels dug in position" of atheism (by denying any form of a God existence vs. my position of denying a religious faith-based man interpreted version of God's will) when their own fellows can point to that same evidence of which you speak. Numerous scientists - of which we've all heard the Einstein story, "The Encyclopedia Britannica says of him: "Firmly denying atheism, Einstein expressed a belief in "Spinoza's God who reveals himself in the harmony of what exists." This actually motivated his interest in science, as he once remarked to a young physicist: "I want to know how God created this world, I am not interested in this or that phenomenon, in the spectrum of this or that element. I want to know His thoughts, the rest are details." Einstein's famous epithet on the "uncertainty principle" was "God does not play dice" - and to him this was a real statement about a God in whom he believed. A famous saying of his was "Science without religion is lame, religion without science is blind." http://www.godandscience.org/apologetics/sciencefaith.html My assumption on the atheistic perspective is pointed to Dr. Hawkings book, "The Grand Design" and a couple of its most published quotes. "The universe can and will create itself from nothing," and "Spontaneous creation is the reason why there is something rather than nothing, why the universe exists, why we exist," which afterwards brought a symphony of discussion almost the equivalent of that which occurred after "The DaVinci Code" in which the author in a work of fiction merely postulates a Jesus bloodline. The rebuttal list of scientific quotes (as well as those published by the theological community) after Hawkings book came out are too long to list and post, but one stands out for me the most is that of Dr. Francis Collins who wrote: 2nd EDIT: And, the final question I have for the atheistic scientists is this," How is it possible that mankind has developed the ability to view into space and find "M-Class" planets millions of light years away, whose existence has been as long as that of planet Earth and in some cases longer... yet, there is no evidence of life, of any form. Hawklings quote re-addressed: "The universe can and will create itself from nothing," How is that possible that has not happened on other planets if the evolutionary model is correct? The best gear is that which you rent form the DZ as a student whilst you embark on a path of knowledge from reading, http://www.dropzone.com/safety/Gear_and_Equipment/index.shtml, listening to your Instructors and maybe hanging out with a Rigger or you could just take Billvon's advice and skip all the other shit. 18. Were you searching for atheism in your Oct. 25th thread? I can't tell if you believe in God or not. My position is a belief in a God; but difficulties with organized (dis-organized) religion. I admit I had less questions when I was a young altar boy, but felt an emotional bond with "God." Having said that, I don't know if it was an emotional relationship with God as much as it was the church fellowship of my peers, Priests, youth groups, etc. Anyway, with all the strife in the world today... decided to dive deeper into "a beginning of all religions." It's actually quite interesting. Nobody has time to listen; because they're desperately chasing the need of being heard.

  23. For years, I have been studying religions of the world. A way of trying to find that emotional connection to God that I remember as a young Roman Catholic altar boy singing the Latin mass. Over time and particularly from 9/11 have been questioning, "How did all this "Holy War" shit start thousands of years ago? How can people of God have crusades and wars and so much strife when there HAS to be a common thread among all three religions. What is that thread and is there a way to educate people that our religions may not be that different? The beginning of my journey began some years ago when I heard Whitney Houston at an award show say "Music is the most important thing to me, because if we have music, then we have love, and if we give the children music; they too will have love." The music of the Latin Mass: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=D9sIcQ5MAeM&feature=related The music of the Torah: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sfF6-TkAnBM&feature=related The music of the Q'uran: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jivNz_i9QTU&feature=related While trying to interlace the three religions together myself recently came across the following dissertation/explanation of the three that I found quite profound. Now, I don't think we're ever going to sway one from their roots; but wonder how few know that all the roots tie back to a single point in time.
