Skydivers Handbook is great , particularly for a newbie. I read Lord of the Rings (all 3 books) when I was about 17 -- incredible literature! Joe Jenning's "Good Stuff" video is good, just because is is full of cool skydiving shit! Lots of "don't try this at home" stuff!

Crazydude ... please excuse my friends ... and yes, if your reserve is due for a repak, you SHOULD pull it yourself ... just not during a skydive! In the safe and controlled environment of the hanger, or wherever you and your skydiving pals hang when you are waiting to jump, you should, under the supervision of the rigger who is going to re-pak your reserve or an instructor, yank both your handles! This will familiarize you with what it will feel like if/when you actually DO have to do it in the air one day!

Even though I declare here and now that astrology is nonsense, on my birthday about 10 years back, when it says "if today is your birthday...." on my birthday it started off by saying saying: "You are frank..." and of course, that's my first name! (someone cut it out from the paper and gave it to me). Anyway, I still say "Hooey!"

Never heard of a rigger who didn't jump ... our main pilot (until recently) had just 30 or 40 jumps, but worked for the dz, so he packed lots of student rigs and I think he was packing the tandems, too!

Love those cross-country jumps! Did a couple back in the summer in shorts and a t-shirt. Feel sorry for the groundlings when I'm wayyyyy up there under canopy!

Well I've been jumping for 4 1/2 years, but have accumulated just 172 jumps ... tough to get in 10 jumps a day at a dz with just one C-182 ... I think over that period of time, I have learned more (from this website, too) than the jumpers who have been around 6 months ...

I've been getting the flu shots for about 10 years now. The thing that I find amusing is when people say "I've got a touch of the flu", or "I've got stomach flu" ... Many people confuse a cold or food poisoning with the flu -- flu is influenza!! It kills tens of thousands of North Americans each year ... granted, most are elderly or have suppressed immune systems, but flu is serious shit, and anyway I can avoid it, I will.

I though Americans lived by the creed "innocent until proven guilty" ... in fact, isn't that what you go to war for -- to defend the right to a fair trail? And now suddenly it's alright to kill a carload of people because 1 or more might be the bad guys? Seems hypocritical to me ...

Bad spot on a helicopter load at the Kamloops boogie (I think they were spotting us away from the jump runs of the winged aircraft) ... I did a downwinder in the camping area ... my first PLF ... it was awesome, though ... had a nice rosy road rash on the back of my backside for a few days, but it didn't prevent me from jumping! One of my buddies on that load landed 1/2 way up a big steep hill near the dz -- under a 78' xaos!

For me, I'd say 2500 ... but I really do love pulling at 10,000 on a warm summer day, and just flying around!
