If you want to have fun under your canopy - pull right after leaving the plane ... of course, you have to make sure the other jumpers and the pilot know your intentions ... but you'll have a lot more time to experiment and have fun!

I bought my rig when I had about 30 - 35 jumps ... got goggles after about 5 jumps, an altimiter after about 15 jumps ... The rig - a Dolphin D3, 210 Silhouette, and a Tempo 170 reserve - with about 300 jumps on it - cost me $1800 Can.

As a student, I was taught to cutaway a canopy that is deformed. Either it's good or it's not. Only time to pump toggles was end cell closure or to bring the slider down. As you become more experienced with your canopy, you become better prepared to attempt to fix a problem ... there is no difinitive answer as to how one should react to a line over. Me? I'll cutaway...

Gee, that's like saying a wind sock is cheating ... lights help jumpers FIND the landing area, and help them land safely ... I don't see what part of that is cheating?!? Our landing area (Farmer McNasty' field) is near subdivisions, a village, and some small industry, but is kinda dark ... ya need to see the ground lest it come up and smite thee!

I recently finished reading "Men From Earth" by Buzz Aldrin (published in 1989). I highly recommend it for anyone with even the slightest interest in man's journey from the early days of rocketry to Neil and Buzz walking on the moon. It had more to do with the seating arrangments in the lunar module... Buzz Aldrin has a doctrate in Astronautics from MIT ... Neil Armstrong was a navy attack jet pilot ... both are warriors of the highest degree!

Ahhhh, the good old days... when planes were for jumping from, not attacking skyscrapers with... We'll never forget...
