  1. I just did my first altitude hop & pop (sunset load no less) a week ago. AMAZING! Not qualified to give much advice, but I will say two things. Keep the blood moving in your legs. I found that mine started to fall asleep after being in the saddle for much longer than usual. Pulling my legs up to my chest helped as did kicking around a bit. The other thing is to remain ultra-aware of your heading and location. I had the amazing experience of watching the moon rise as the sun was setting and could have easily just kept watching the sunset and ended up much futher out than I wanted to be. Have fun! 2. What timing! Just the other day I was listening to co-workers complain about having to go to the DMV and was making fun of them. Well, I just purchased my dad's company car and it is in his name and I was going to leave it there for a little while until I was in a better position to pay the tax, etc. I'll be damned. The night I was kidding with co-workers about it my dad tells me that because his bday is Nov. 1 that his registration is up and I have to get it switched into my name. DOH! As for a funny story - In NY they take your picture once and it stays in the system. The last time I had my license renewed I got a letter with it that told me because of the poor quality of my photo I could come in for a free update photo. I mean, how bad does your photo have to be for even the DMV to say it isn't good enough! Killing threads since 2004.
  3. Oh and do I miss it! This is the time of year that we used to start finding friends that would let us borrow their cars to go hiking and camping in the Catskills! There is nothing I hate more than being hot, so I'll take throwing an extra layer or two on any day over sitting in the tent wondering when I'm going to stop sweating. Getting back to the thread - I think these boogies toward the end of the month - The Farm on the 23/24th and then Thomaston over Halloween are going to be just perfect in every way. The days won't be too hot, the nights won't be too cool, and there will be all sorts of awesome people hanging out and jumping and partying all weekend long! Edited: formatting Killing threads since 2004.
  4. QuoteYou can also camp at Skydive Atlanta. Although you'd better hurry . . . it's starting to get cold. Starting to get cold? I think is starting to get perfect!!! Finally getting cool enough that you can put on some sweats and wrap up in a sleeping bag for an amazing night's sleep! Killing threads since 2004.
  5. Just call me beer bitch. Normally I'd tell you where you could stick your Corona, but being that you just got hitched and all I might think about bringing some Corona along. Who all is coming and when are you leaving? I'm going to bring some wood out for the fire so hopefully it will be a bit better than last weekend. bseries - sorry for hijacking your thread! Anytime is a good time to stop by. It's a fun bunch regardless of time of day or what is going on. Edited: If you do make it just come to the hanger. There will be plenty of people around. 6. I thought you and your lovely new bride were heading up to Harvest Moon this weekend? Glad to hear you'll be hanging at the Farm. Planning a late arrival on Friday again? I should be getting there around 10:30. bseries - if you aren't doing anything you should come by the Farm this weekend. Even if you don't jump it would be cool to see a new face. Usually about 10 or 12 people there camping on Friday nights, a pile more on Saturday. Look forward to meeting you soon. Killing threads since 2004.
  7. Sucks to be on your end of the deal, but that's the way to win at the lowest price. Starting to bid any earlier really just raises the price. Starting early - you bid, they bid, you bid, they bid - it ends up way higher. If you just wait until the last second and bid your max amount than others won't have the opportunity to reconsider their max amount and rebid. You take the risk of your max bid not being high enough, but it takes away the opportunity for others to raise their max bid. By last minute I mean hitting submit when there is 10 or so seconds left in the auction. It has worked very well for me - and it frustrates me to no end when I see people bidding up an item days before it is due (unless of course I'm the seller!!!). Happy bidding, and good luck next time. Killing threads since 2004.
  8. I just finished AFF a few weeks ago and had a bit of trouble the first time I had to do the turns. My motions were too drastic and I just ended up spinning. I'll tell you what worked for me. I was told that if I just looked in the direction I wanted to turn than chances were pretty good that my body would follow. I tried it and it worked. By looking over to the right I unknowingly shifted my body a bit and had a nice slow turn. In the end we'll need to be able to look in any direction without turning all over the place, but for now that might help you pass that jump in AFF and in a few jumps when things get a lot less expensive you can start working with a coach on really flying your body. Keep in mind that I'm just starting too, so make sure to talk to your instructor before trying anything that I suggest!!! Killing threads since 2004.
  9. I don't know Lee. I seem to remember you running away the last time there were two beautiful scantily clad women (wrestling while covered in KY no less) in front of you. Killing threads since 2004.
  10. Wow - have to go back to 5th grade for that. Back in Ms. Opie's class, seated in the far corner, I let fly the most horrendous "silent-but-deadly" that man has ever smelled. The smell moved so quickly through the closed up classroom that nobody ever knew who did it, but the teacher did decide about two hours early that it was time for us to have recess outside. I'd never seen her open the windows in the classroom either. Even though nobody knew it was me I dreaded for years ever farting in class again for fear of it being that bad and someone knowing it was me! Kind of a shame. Now I'd probably try to take credit for it! Funny how things change! Killing threads since 2004.
  11. If you are a parent, because of what you might be doing to your kids...health and otherwise. As a kid I was traumatized at school when someone would ask what "that smell" was or who had been smoking because I smelled so much like smoke. I will never forget walking into the living room on a weekend morning as a kid and seeing a haze of smoke floating in the air. I have always wondered how much their smoking had to do with the asthma that plagued me as a kid. The only good thing that came of growing up with two smoking parents is that I saw how disgusting it was and to this day have never had even the slightest interest in trying a cigarette. Thankfully they both quit a few years ago. Killing threads since 2004.
  12. Nah, I think that is number 2. Sorry! Will you be coming down for the next boogie (I won't mention any dates for fearing of trashing thread #3). Killing threads since 2004.
  13. Uh, excuse me Shrek...but your ladyfriend Goofy and I kept that thing going for a while (after leaping a large puddle we both ended up landing in) to drag some fallen trees over. Brandy - give him a slap upside the head when you get a chance. I'm sure he deserves it for plenty of reasons. Killing threads since 2004.
  14. Probably my fault. I didn't think when I was typing, but realized after I replied that I might have been too specific about a non-event jump special. Sorry! Anyway, the point of my reply to that message was to say that I'm working on cutting up a pile of dead trees in my backyard to bring over to The Farm to keep that bonfire going. The fire this past weekend left a bit to be desired! Killing threads since 2004.
  15. Since I moved all of my messages into subfolders I am only able to view my inbox when I have a new message in it. If I have no new messages, I receive a message that says there are no messages to view in my inbox. I do have messages in there though. When I receive a new message and I can again see all of the messages. Killing threads since 2004.
  16. That has happened to me a couple times, always when under prolonged stress at work leading up to a big event I was planning. It has always gone away a day or two after the stress is gone and I've gotten a couple good nights of sleep. Killing threads since 2004.
  17. I still can't believe anyone can sleep so soundly. I mean, it's not like the walk over to the pond was all that smooth! Killing threads since 2004.
  18. What a great weekend! I managed to get 9 jumps including a butt load of firsts. On top of that, I think I'm actually starting to figure out what I'm doing up there! I did my first sunset atltitude hop & pop on Saturday night. If that was the last jump I ever made I would be content. SO amazing spinning around and seeing a beautiful moon rising on one horizon and the sun setting on the other. Extra thanks to Frank, John K., John S. and Faye for being so interested in jumping with me and helping me to get a clue with what I'm doing, and to Lee for hanging around to video my last jump even though he probably should have been getting on the road. Marianne - Paul was a lot of fun to have around, especially around the fire on Saturday evening. I think there were a lot of jealous guys watching him run around with no pants on! He gave me quite a harmonica concert on Sunday afternoon while we were hanging out on the golf cart. I don't know if I've ever laughed as hard as I did watching Lance wake up and realize he was in the middle of the pond. Holy hell that was funny, and bravo to Lance for being such a damn good sport about it. Killing threads since 2004.
  19. Hey Lee - glad ya'll got home safely. I really appreciate you hanging around for that one last jump to shoot video for me knowing what kind of drive home you had in front of you. Killing threads since 2004.
  20. Ditto what Ms. Bluesky said. It was really great to meet you guys at The Farm a couple weeks ago. Hope to see you both there again sometime soon! Killing threads since 2004.
  21. 0:9: Yet another freakin awesome weekend at The Farm. Why did I wait so long to start skydiving!!! First two way and coach jumps. First attempt at something a little larger than a two way that didn't quite work (turns out they weren't kidding when my AFFIs told me I fall like a dump truck). First non-tandem from a Super Otter. And to top off the weekend, first time watching someone wake up on their air mattress in the middle of the swoop pond! Killing threads since 2004.

  23. It all worked ok for me, even on my ancient work computer. I've received the link in an email from 3 different people, so it's making its way around. Their server may just be jammed. Killing threads since 2004.
