You're right, they can be pretty scary, especially when they have the aliens in the basement egging them on. Killing threads since 2004.

What's the best way to stop a clown from laughing? Hit him in the face with an ax. Killing threads since 2004.

Fort Campbell Sport Parachute Club Closes
FlyingJ replied to CDRINF's topic in Skydiving History & Trivia
What a bummer. A cousin stationed with the 160th SOAR told me about the club there. I don't think he ever got involved with it though. Killing threads since 2004. -
This is some funny stuff. Brings back memories of when an aunt lived with my family when we were kids. She was a translator and owned a TTY machine. We used to love (remember we were no older than 12 at the time) plugging it in and calling our friends via the TTY operator and making them say stupid stuff. We would dare each other to make the operator say something worse each time. Wish I could buy those operators a now. They deserve it! Killing threads since 2004.

Obviously best if you can find some way of saving to get it with unborrowed money, but if a loan is the way to go...can you get additional student loan funding? You are going to pay a heck of a lot less in interest on a student loan than most personal loans, and you won't have to start paying until you are out of school and then some. With a personal loan you may get a small grace period, but you'll have to come up with the money for payments while still in school. That is how I was able to purchase a car in college (which actually was a somewhat legitimate school expense since I had to commute and my previous clunker wouldn't make it). Thanks. Quite an amazing feeling! Killing threads since 2004.

It will have to be something awfully important to keep me away. Might not be able to afford to jump, but I can still party! Killing threads since 2004.

Nope, afraid not. I burned a pretty big whole in the pocket paying for AFF this month and renting/jumping this weekend. Need a bit of time to figure out who is paying for the next great weekend now that Uncle MasterCard doesn't have any more to give for a while. This rental thing is a drag, but sadly I'll probably have to get used to it for the next year or so. Killing threads since 2004.

I hear ya. I just finished AFF and got my first 5 solo jumps in this weekend. !! On the first 5 levels I was a bit uptight about the exit, trying to make sure I was doing it correctly, etc. and it resulted in being tense at the beginning of freefall as well. It was a whole different world on level 6, the first no contact exit. The only "step" was get out of the plane and get stable. I was so much more relaxed it was amazing. Killing threads since 2004.

It was awesome to meet and get to know so many of you all this weekend. Couldn't have picked a better weekend and better group to have to buy my first few cases for. Thanks for welcoming me so warmly into this amazing arena, and I can't wait to see everyone again. Killing threads since 2004.

Thanks for a fantastic weekend everyone! Couldn't have asked for a better weekend to finish AFF and join your ranks. Killing threads since 2004.

Hey James - Happy belated birthday!!! Killing threads since 2004.

Wow...I was really bummed out when my position in the Keys fell though, but the last couple weeks have made me think I'm a pretty lucky guy for having stalled in Atlanta for a few months. I don't know what my poor mother would have done. She was elated to see me leave NYC. Can't imagine if I was sitting through a bunch of hurricanes. Edited because I can't spell. Well, looks like I'll have to go come Comp(lete rip off)USA for the converter. None of the other stores in my area have it, and the guy I talked to there said they carry them. Said they run $7 to $8 to sounds pretty inline with what you all thought. We'll see what happens! Killing threads since 2004.
-
Ha! Thanks Rev. Well, in NYC where I just moved from yes. Here in Atlanta, no. You'd think with the half dozen computers amongst my family someone would have had Win2K, but nope, everyone jumped straight from 98 to XP, or is still using 98. For the moment I'm just leaving the thing off and we'll see what happens if I can find a converter. Killing threads since 2004.

Sorry, thought you could see it via that link. Service tag: WLP4D Killing threads since 2004.

Great! Now, assuming I find this thing, should I be able to read the laptop drive w/ Win2k on a desktop with WinXP? If I can just get a few files off, I'll then consider trying to salvage the drive itself. For the moment I just want to get my resume off as I don't have time between now and an interview on Friday morning to rewrite it. Killing threads since 2004.

Is the attached what I am looking for? Chances are I'll show up to the store and get the owner's nephew helping me rather than someone that has a clue, so it would be great to bring a photo. Killing threads since 2004.
-
No kidding. Actually, I won't allow myself to go to CompUSA after my previouis incident with them, but I'm sure Atlanta has more than that to offer. Just need to find one near my current job, otherwise I'll have to spend Friday when I'm off looking for computer parts rather than finishing AFF! Killing threads since 2004.
-
Why do I feel like CompUSA won't be quite as cheap? Ugh I hate that place with a passion (long story - 7 months w/out a PC purchased there b/c it was a POS, but in the end they gave me a full refund on a 5 yr old machine). I'll see what other stores are in the area, but this converter idea sounds like a great one. Thanks!!! Killing threads since 2004.

Thanks everyone, these are some great ideas. Thankfully my laptop is something I picked up on eBay a few years ago just to be mobile and I always backup to my desktop. I just moved so I've been using the laptop, and if the drive is gone I'll only lose a few items that have been created or updated since my move. I'm on my family's computer now, but I'm going to get my desktop pc up and running and will try a few of the proposed suggestions. Thanks again for the advice, and I'll let you know what the results are! Killing threads since 2004.

I had that thought. I have an external hd. Could I load an operating system onto the external HD using a different computer, and then plug it in to the laptop and boot off of the external? I have no idea whether that is even remotely possible. This laptop is a random ebay purchase from a few years back and it came with the Win2K installation, so I don't even have Win2K to install or reinstall. Killing threads since 2004.
